Hello! When i was at the eligible age i started classes immediately, that was because i'm sure that God is my way and Catholicism is what i will try to commit to. I don't think it's wrong that you want to wait until later because it's better to receive the sacrament when you're fully opened to accepting it along with the gifts of the Holy Spirit. Don't feel like you're rejecting your religion, not all churches are that cruel, but keep in mind that we ALWAYS truly need God. :) God Bless!

@NohAotori4 жыл бұрын
I'm replying this 3 years later. Lol. I hope you have had find the answer already but I'm gonna butt in just in case. I suppose your question is punctual on the ceremony itself but for the ceremony have something "special" is that you are ready for it after months of preparation on the confirmation course and that you truly understand what is it to receive the Holy Spirit and what a Christian life is and that you truly believe and accept that. Many people just take it as a religious requirement?? So they pass this ceremony just like meh??? I took it when I was 18 and after 2 years of spiritual preparation and discerning. I had 1 year of biblical self study and 9 months of the confirmation course. On that time as well I visited protestant services as part of me trying to understand and decide, so I found that definitely the True Church of Christ was the original one catholic and decided to take the course and confirmed. What actually happens in the ceremony is there's a mass with special intentions for the people who finished the course, there's a part where you are blessed with sacred oils. OK if someone expects something weird happens like as some protestant does like fainting or screaming or shaking, no. The Holy Spirit comes to us to give us his gifts or to reconfirm them. And that is way more powerful and important than fainting or shaking sjdjshahahja Now that we have confirmed our beliefs it's up to us to act accordingly to what we have promised to do as Christians. That's what really happens.

It is said in the video that confirmation isn't a rite of passage. But do you mean by this that it isn't this AT ALL (in which case I would disagree, since it has de facto become that too), or that it is more than a rite of passage (in which case I would agree wholeheartedly)?
@ClareStorey9 жыл бұрын
+KjetilK It's more than a rite of passage, although nowadays in some cultures there is the attitude that it is 'passing through the motions'. The use of the chrism oil on the forehead seals the candidate for confirmation on the path of a life following Christ. It also assumes that the candidate understands enough about what they are preparing themselves for. It takes a lot of courage for a candidate to say they don't want to be confirmed, as long as they know the reasons why.

1 Corinthians 10:16-21 and 1 Corinthians 11:27-30... This is the problem with modernism - it desacrilizes the Holy Liturgy as well as the Eucharist (and the other Sacraments), which is more than simply our shared "meal." There are no Sacraments without first a great sacrifice - this is what the Holy Mass is. Read the ENTIRE quote by Saint Cyril... Tell me if you can possibly teach the sort of reverence he called for (in the entire quote which was cut off) by allowing people to receive as they do today. Receiving on the tongue helps to teach us reverence... First communicants: go to confession regularly and never stop learning about your faith... Learn to pray the Rosary and carry it with you everywhere you go. Trust our Lady to bring you to Christ. I'm a University student currently and by the grace of God am just now learning all that we have lost to the modernists over the past century... I have excellent and caring parents, but they did not become truly practicing until I roughly 12-14, and so naturally, it took me a bit to catch up... Today, the gravity and responsibility that being Catholic brings does not seem to be realized by our culture... Build your life upon the foundation of the Church, which is Christ. His grace is sufficient, and we receive it through the Church and the Sacraments. Ave Maria...

@MsOliveLeaf8 жыл бұрын
+thenextceo Well, I have a catholic friend who thinks that a person is born again through confirmation. That, for sure is NOT true and NOT biblical. Easter and Christmas existed long before Christianity. These holidays came from paganism and no, I don't celebrate Easter. I go to church to celebrate the Resurrection. No easter eggs, no easter bunnies etc. I used to but I was wrong in doing it the world's way.
@susanbashynski13738 жыл бұрын
Confirmation isn't biblical??? Read Act 2:1-12. About as biblical as you can get. Christ worked with his disciples teaching them for 3 years leading them up to confirmation. This is what religious ed does as well. So technically Christ began the road to confirmation for his apostles, established it on Pentecost, and St. Peter who went on to help establish the church, also continued the tradition by continuing the mission of Christ. The Catholic faith is steeped in biblical tradition, but one can only know that if one truly studies and understands the faith, and the best way to do that is to actively practice the faith.

Confirmation is not the "Completion of Christian Initiation" We are fully initiated into the Church when we are a Saint in Heaven. We continue to get more and more initiated every time we receive the Eucharist.
@QuisutDeusmpc8 жыл бұрын
The Church, in Her wisdom, groups the seven sacraments into those pertaining to initiation [Baptism, Chrismation or Confirmation, and the Eucharist], those pertaining to service [Marriage and Holy Orders] and those pertaining to healing [the Anointing of the Sick and Reconciliation or Penance]. There were two times in Christ's life when He was anointed by the Father and heard the words "This is My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased". Once at His baptism in the Jordan where He received the Holy Spirit for us on our behalf, and once on the Mt. of Transfiguration where His power and glory were revealed to the Apostles Peter, James and John and He was empowered to undergo the test of His Paschal Death ["This is My beloved Son in whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him."]. The first disciples and Apostles received John's baptism in the Jordan and received the unction of the Holy Spirit on the first feast of Pentecost [cf. Acts 2: 1-4], corresponding to the sacrament of Confirmation or Chrismation. In baptism we are regenerated as children of God and receive the divine indwelling of the Holy Spirit and become justified by God and are incorporated into His body, the Church. In Confirmation, we receive a strengthening or empowerment of the Holy Spirit received in baptism in order to engage in 'spiritual warfare' [i. e. to be empowered to bear witness to Christ to a lost and dying world - through lives of holiness, and through spreading the Gospel to others in our lives (e. g. witnessing to Christ to them, inviting them to Church, encouraging fallen away friends and family to return to the sacraments, etc.), and, if necessary, to sacrifice for the faith - nurses refusing to engage in abortion, pharmacists refusing to dispense abortifacients or contraceptives, corporate financiers refusing to issue sub prime mortgages or embezzle American's retirement savings so they can parachute out with multi-million dollar severance packages, defending the faith to militant fundamentalist or evangelical Protestants, etc.. Agreed, our ULTIMATE goal is not simply to frequent the sacraments, but to become more and more holy until we are made worthy, by God's grace, to receive the Beatific Vision - seeing God face to face in heaven. But I believe Father was referring to how the three sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist together initiate us into the fulness of life in Christ in the Church while here on earth.

Is it not possible to add that confirmation is our “”yes” to Jesus’ invitation to accept His free gift of salvation? That Jesus is our personal Saviour and that we want to follow Him with all our hearts and we want to live for Him as a good Catholic? Confirmation is more than head knowledge it is our personal decision to follow Jesus for the rest of our lives in the Catholic Church.

Where obligations are accepted and pledges taken... consent MUST be a prerequisite. Because for many participants who don't believe in god or Christianity confirmation is nothing more than a pointless religious ritual. I never bought into religious dogma and so I refused to take confirmation as I developed into a staunch atheist. It didn't sit well with family and church but they soon realized that the more pressure, guilt and shame they tried to use the faster it drove me away.

Religion in it's purest form means "The search for God" or something done to gain the "favor of God".....any ritual done that suggest that this "act" or "work" makes someone "closer" to God is a slap in his face. We were brought near to God by God himself, through the blood of His Son Jesus Christ, not by vain impersonal religious repititions. The veil inside the temple that seperated Man from God was removed the moment God accepted his Son's sacrifice on the cross.

I've always believed that when Jesus commanded His followers to eat Him, He was not only feeding us spiritually-the best way, but making us strong to go and be His witnesses. I've always believed that Confirmation was the "tatoo" Sacrament. The Holy Spirit tatooing us with the "Name above all Names-Jesus" and just like the many soldiers, sailors and marines I've seen with all manner or markings, so too we, in some way are soldiers for Jesus, marked with His great Name. When I was a kid, our parish youth choir sang Fr. Daniel Lord's "An Army of Youth, Flying the Standard Of Truth, and I always have conceived that the Sacrament of Confirmation was the permission slip to sally forth for Jesus.

what if it had one large leg in the middle and it just stood on that?
That’s my case because I feel that I received the holy spirt allready just as he said and I’m only on 1 leg 🦵?

The moment you "beleived on the one God sent" you went from 110%seperation from God to full 110% acceptance and made also his "son", not a mere servant as many "religions" like to teach us. The story of the prodical son is a perfect example of this. The prodical had a wrong preception of "becoming like one of his Fathers hired servants"...the son that never left also had the wrong preception of his father. The only man needed to come to God or to "please" God, was the man Christ Jesus.

No one should ever be forced into confirmation. As a young skeptic and doubter I decided to put off confirmation indefinitely amidst pressure and expectations of family and community. I will never forget the sh_t storm of protests and aghast that brewed as a result. I was told to confirm regardless (backed by threats) so they wouldn't be embarrassed. But I remained steadfast; did they really expect me to manufacture a lie? Parents: never put your children through this if it's not in their heart.

i’m late man but i’m also a skeptic, i’m on my way to confirmation registration as i type this. I’m afraid to tell my parents what i truly think about it. I fear that i will be punished or have things taken from me, or treated as less, seen as a failure. I’m 16.

I'm a Catholic and agree people should not be forced to be Confirmed that wouldn't even be a real confirmation
