A marvelous message. I put a link to it on my Episcopal church's Facebook page. (Incidentally, some churches use blue for Advent as Mary's color and to distinguish it from the purple of Lent).

Contrary to what the video says, Advent does have a penitential nature to it - not as much as Lent, but it includes an element of penance in the sense of preparing, quieting and disciplining our hearts for the full joy of Christmas. This penitential dimension is expressed through the color purple, but also through the restrained manner of decorating the church and altar (take a look at the GIRM n. 305 and n. 313 for specifics on this...that is the General Instruction of the Roman Missal if you are not familiar with it.) More info on this can be found on the USCCB's website, just in case you don't want to take the word of little old me: www.usccb.org/prayer-and-worship/liturgical-year/advent/liturgical-notes-for-advent.cfm

Mega, it's from Tchaikovsky's Nutcracker Suit. It's on I-tunes, Amazon, or at your local record store they still exist.

Regarding the purple in Advent mentioned below: yes, it used to be intentionally linked to the purple of penitential Lent, as it, too, has been considering a period of fasting. Back in '78, the Lutherans in the USA, following at least one Scandinavian tradition, switched to blue for Advent -- a color of hope, which is why Mary is often dressed in blue in traditional paintings. Much more suitable.

Never heard of the pink candle! Besides that: great video. Although the music and the speed was a bit too much - didn't really get everything. Advent has such a message that should get the time to sink in, in my opinion.

Very nice, but one quibble: "everyday" is written as one word rather than two, i.e. "every day.” As one word, everyday means "routine, usual, normal"; as two words, it means ’Sunday through Saturday.”
