@@Consantine Ok, then how old he was, when watching this movie? If he was watching in 1951 and 72 he is now, then he was just 1 year old then. The same way, if he was watching it someday between 1952 to 1959, then he was 2 to 9 year old then. But it doesn't make much sense. A 1 to 9 year old child can hardly describe his movie watching experience after more than 70 years so well. He may be 80+ now. I liked most, when policeman locked him into wooden box, but as he lifted the box and saw criminal escaped, why he was still looking into empty box. Funny.

I haven't seen this for more years han most of you were born. Despite being a fellow Brit, I always rated Stoneface better than Chaplin. You can see why: the timing, the body language, the bravery of the stunts, even the scripting and editing - all equalling or surpassing any competition of the time. OK today's dialogue is usually better but this doesn't need it. Nor does it need 'proper' soundtrack or colourisation (though they may help). All this clip is missing is the reason for the chase, although the ending supplies it. Still deliciously brilliant, even a century or so later. Sorry about sounding 'precious' but how else can I describe it? Thanks for the memories it brings back.

I am searching for a clip of my favorite Keaton gag. Again he is trying to escape from the police, but on a bicycle. Not watching where he is going, he hits a cop from behind, and the cop ends up sitting on the bike's handle bars. With a shot from behind, Keaton jumps off the bike as the cop continues to ride on the handle bars down the street. It was show from behind so you could not tell that it was a stuntman wearing Keaton's costume. Keaton switched with the stuntman, so it was actually Keaton riding on the handle bars. Keaton did this often. If there were two stunts in a scene, one by Keaton and the other done at the same time by a stunt man, they would switch costumes so that Keaton would perform the more difficult stunt. I guess he didn't trust the stuntman to do it right.

The whole story revolves around him wanting to marry that young woman, the mayor's daughter, who doesn't want to marry him, unless he becomes a successful businessman. Everything goes wrong and when she at the end gives him the disapproving look, he surrenders because everything else but her love/affection/marrying him doesn't matter to him at that moment
