Buster Raccoon does not like the cold weather. He needs some motivation to wake up. TREATS!!!!

Thank you for being animal lovers...I assume you took in this raccoon because he was injured or sick and it left him unable to return to the outdoors. I say this because he is so relaxed and sweet with his human so he obviously has known you a long time and you take good care of him. I love these critters and I am glad this one was fortunate to find kind hearted people to give him a nice life. He must go outside to go to the bathroom and get some fresh air. Very cute!

Yes......Buster was brought to us because he was severely injured when he was a baby........Our intentions were to rehab and release..... Unfortunately his injuries were too severe and he could not be returned to the wild. He is pampered and has a wonderful life.....

aww this makes me want to have another pet raccoon. growing up, we rescued 4 and had them as pets. once you start nursing them back to health it's not always in the animal's best interest to be released into a wild they've never known. the last one we had, the mother kicked him out of the nest so we raised him since he was a day old. my mom was the first thing he saw when he opened his eyes and they always had a special bond. until the last day we had him (years later) he would still fall asleep cuddling in our arms, sucking our thumbs.

Talk about zero motivation. Buster looked just too damn comfortable too get up and go out into the cold. I suppose a litter box is out of the question. Loved the nose when you mentioned treats. Raccoons are very smart and curious. They can be a handful. Great video.

Buster is absolutely adorable. It's really too bad they got such a bad reputation, simply because humans have encroached on their land and they haven't got much natural habitat to deal with. But being as intelligent and social as they are, they adapt very well in the cities and people are scared of what they don't know. So apparently, all raccoons are vicious and all have rabies.... so sad. I wish this sort of stuff would get cleared up once and for all, for their sake. Karen, I envy you guys to have Buster. He must be a blast to have around.

@@heidibower2538 They were smart, affectionate, & playful. They loved life and each one had a different personality. We loved them beyond what I can describe in words. They are all gone now. I almost couldn't bear their deaths. The first were a litter of three (2 female & 1 male) whose mother was evidently killed. They have been gone for about ten years. I spent thousands of dollars trying to save the male from a sickness that was never completely diagnosed. I had to take him out of state to different vets because in my state vets legally can't treat raccoons. One of the females did something so indicative of higher intelligence and emotion and thinking and reasoning that I think it should be studied by those who study animal intelligence/emotion. Too long a story to relate here, but I'm hoping one day to record the whole story and make it public. That coon was a wonderful "person" to me and my wife. She and her siblings were part of our family. The last one was a single orphan we raised from infancy. She lived in the house with me and my wife and about fifteen rescued cats. She died about two years ago, evidently shortly after I made the post above. She was sweet, spunky, and playful. She loved the cats and they loved her. She would groom them and sit in my lap with them. Sometimes we would see seven or eight cats on a blanket in front of a sliding glass door and the coon right in there with them. She got sick and we took her to Florida to a vet (we're in Georgia). He did what he could, but said "she's really sick." She died a few days later at about seven years old. The house still doesn't seem the same without her; she brought so much life and personality to it. She had a kind of arrogance about her that my wife and I often laughed at; she thought she ruled the house. Often, I would be standing at the kitchen sink doing something and she would be walking by. As she was passing by me, she would just casually reach over and lightly bite my big toe and keep walking. Every night I had to do what we called "sitdown" with her. I had to put on a pair of cargo pants and put treats in each of the pockets and sit on the floor so she could dig for the treats. In the wild, coons only live three or four years because life in the wild is so hard. However, in captivity, they can live fourteen or more years because there's not the stress of living in the wild. So, we had big plans for Little Wolf. I was making a big outdoor enclosure with a waterfall, a small creek, several treehouses, etc. It was going to be attached to a nice 8'x24' air-conditioned house with a small kitchen. We were going to move Little Wolf and the inside cats (we have outside ones, also) into this new living arrangement. We had already bought a bunch of colorful lights and all sorts or things to make this enclosure like a Disney World for them. We have a vast collection of photos and videos of all the coons. I hope to gather them all together and post them on a website one day along with the stories of each of the coons. They are so vastly misunderstood and there is so much ignorance about them. I want them to be understood and I want the mistreatment of them to stop. Speaking of the mistreatment of them, every night my wife and I go to feed homeless cats right off an intestate exit at a truckstop type area. There are a few raccoons that come and try to eat the cats' food, so we have to put some food out for them in a separate place so the cats can eat. There seem to be about six or seven coons. We noticed in the last few weeks that one has a front leg that is broken and bent at almost a ninety degree angle. We didn't know what had happened. However, then we saw another one with the same problem, but the other front leg. I then figured that somebody had put out leg traps and that the coons had stepped in them and had their legs broken but had escaped. They're not very big coons, so it's possible they were able to free their legs. I don't know that that 's what happened, but it seems to be the most logical explanation. I cannot believe somebody could such a horrible thing. I want to work to stop such things from being allowed and to stop the mistreatment.
