Agree with the "turn off your engine at petrol stations". I also put my hand onto any metal part on the car before even opening the fuel cap/door to discharge any static electricity on me. I occasionally get zapped but at least I know I'll never go kaboom. 😅

There is another problem with filling up your car while the car is running. You can create pockets of empty space around the fuel pump, making your car run lean or even stall while refueling. My lady did it when I first met her and it litterly sounded like her car wanted to turn itself off with rpm dip. She has turned it off every time ever since.

Yh in addition to the points you raised for cobb, there's a cost factor. Chances are a reflash is going to cost less than a decent pro tune. It's also a nice way to introduce people to the idea of tuning their ECUs. For most ppl 0-50-100 makes for a smoother transition than 0-100 when jumping into basically anything.

One tip I've found that really works well for getting goo or sap off of a car is to treat it with a heat gun. You've gotta be careful with it so you don't bubble to paint, but if you wave the heat gun around it on low, it'll generally get the bulk of it off pretty well, then hit it with an off the shelf that and sap removal spray to clean up the rest. I did this on my mustang when I had massive glops of sap on it.

Tire shops (reputable ones at least) do not want to sell old tires because they don't want to get sued in case of an accident from tire failure. Manufacturers either. I'm old enough to remember the whole Firestone debacle. They're ok now, tho. Below highway speed, windows down, a/c off. Highway speed, windows up a/c on. Turning off your car at gas pumps will reduce the risk of static electricity igniting vapors, which is low but not zero risk. What it also does is help reduce the risk or your car getting stolen while standing there looking stupid. For sticker removal, I love goo gone. I run a Link G4 so no experience with Cobb. But as distracting as the dude's hair was, he was kinda onto something. I would rather a tuner do my car right, because if the engine goes boom, they might take responsibility and try to make it right, or at least tell you where things went wrong. DIY tune, you're on your own. But if you follow any advice from tik tok, the poor car was in trouble anyway.

the tuning talk got me thinking. how do you feel about the pedal commander? some people swear by it. i dont believe it really does anything, as most cars made in the last 15 years or so have software that will adjust a certain amount to driver input. if youre heavy on the throttle, it'll increase throttle response, if you keep the rpm down, it'll lessen the throttle response to get better fuel mileage. so, you plug something into your car thats supposed to make it faster, my guess is, youre going to get on the throttle to see what it does.
@AlexMartini.2 жыл бұрын
I’ll do some research and follow up 👀
@Onizukachan9152 жыл бұрын
They just change the curve of the potentiometer so the ecu thinks you pressed the pedal more than you did. 0 is still 0 and 100 is still 100 so there is no “extra power” there. It just feels like it is because you are going thru the first 50-75 of the throttle in 1/3 of the travel instead of being linear ratio. My BMW has 3 drive modes that actually do remap the throttle and engine response and ecu parameters.
@tigermedz2 жыл бұрын
Well this is how my throttle controller works, you got eco, normal, sport, sport +, and race. Each one opens the butterfly valve on the throttlebody to a different degree in conjunction with throttle position, and the number out of 1-9 on the settings determines the speed at which it opens to that degree. And I'm sure pedal commander works the same way.
@JackPepal3572 жыл бұрын
Engineering explained did a video on ac vs windows. As for the engine running I literally don’t understand how the car running makes a difference. The battery is always putting out juice, whether it’s 12.6v when the car is off or 13-15v when it’s on. The car doesn’t make static electricity, so I really don’t get this point. There’s a way higher chance you have a static charge than the car

Honestly the whole bit on Cobb tuning almost makes him seem like Eather A: he's a Dyno elitist who is rocking some 1000+ HP car or B: he runs his own Dyno and wants more traffic coming into his own shop but I do agree there's for the most part nothing wrong with a flash tune as long as it's done right by a reputable company

I just think to be honest that hating on OTS tunes became popular on Tiktok and so people started slamming them without doing more research. I also want to thank Alex for expanding on the topic with a more in depth look that I couldn’t expand on due to tiktok time restraints I agree with him 100%. Also by no means am I a professional tuner or any of the sort but if Alex would like to know more of my thoughts on the subject I’d love to get in touch and discuss to the best of my ability. People who don't turn their cars off then get back in their car just because it's cold and rub their butt across the seat piss me off. There are over 4000 gas station fire incidents a year, with 3 deaths a year, and 60% vehicle fires.

Static electricity fires have nothing to with engine running, as it makes no difference if its running or not. You turn the vehicle off because it will set a check engine light.

@@AlexMartini. if the car runs the evap emissions monitor while filling up, it will detect a large leak (the gas cap being off!). static electricity fires are most commonly started by getting in and out of the vehicle and not discharging yourself before touching the handle!
