the katana survived but there is no chance it has any strength left in the tip. there's actually a modern bladesmithing technique that helps the spine of a blade be more spring like and take shock better, it's called bluebacking which is when you take a blowtorch not unlike the one you used and you heat just the spine of the blade to make it soft
