▬ ABOUT THIS VIDEO ▬
Busuu vs Duolingo Review (Which Language App Is Best?). In this video, John from the Test Prep Insight team breaks down his Duolingo vs Busuu comparison. These are two of the top rated language learning apps in the world. To complete this language app review, John received input from a polyglot who is fluent in five different languages (English, Spanish, French, Italian and German). However, Busuu and Duolingo are also good choices for learning Chinese, Japanese and Russian. John compares how Duolingo and Bussu compare in terms of learning framework, lessons and language classes. He also talks about what types of drills and exercises both companies offer that span across reading, writing, speaking and listening. Thanks for watching this Busuu review and Duolingo review. These are two of the best language apps on the market. Hopefully it helps you decide whether to go with Busuu or Duolingo to learn a new language.

I’ve been using Busuu for a couple months now and I have to agree that the community aspect is *very* helpful. However, the one criticism I have for it is that I’ll sometimes get an “It’s perfect!” review, then later on another review that picks something out that what wasn’t quite right.

Yeah that's the issue with the community feedback: consistency. But still worth it on the whole!

I can't understand this comment
@sharonwyus1
@sharonwyus1 11 ай бұрын
This may come from two reasons: 1. Each community member has different expectation to what is "perfect" 2. Some cultures tend to give praises more while others don't. In a nutshell, if you are learning a language that is apart from it being an academic requirement, my suggestion is to go ahead and enjoy the "it's perfect!" comment and give yourself a pat on the back 😊 As you get get better with the language, you'll be able to tell more of the nuance of the language. Besides, chances are you are already more close to perfect than not when someone says it's perfect, so give yourself a pat on the back and feel good about how much you've achieved is also an important part of continuing to have a passion with the language ❤

Even past one's are pretty darn entertaining, not to mention educational. I've even spent time reading the detailed reviews on the website which really breakdown each program. I think you're right about choosing Busuu over Duolingo. I've noticed how some of the sentences seem a bit awkward in Duolingo. I do like the game-style lessons in Duolingo. The real video drills in Busuu are a nice feature though.

I have used Duolongo for four months to revise and improve my French (B2 level). And a few weeks ago I started using Busuu to learn German as a complete beginner. I spent a week or two doing German on Duolingo but gave up. There are only so many times I can translate Hallo, Ja and Nein to English and back. The glacial pace was absurd. I also have issues with the French course. I lot of the English is very poor, and sometimes grammatically incorrect. Thus "The groom won’t come anymore" is just wrong. They probably meant "We now think the groom won’t come". And "Are you the oldest of your brothers" is nonsense. Sometimes you have to learn Duolingoese. Thus you can’t say "I cannot get to sleep", you have to say "I cannot fall asleep". I have only ever heard the first phrase. Then there are phrases such as "The hotel sheets were too dirty" suggesting that dirty sheets are fine as long as they are not too dirty. And we have lots of weird phrases like "There is a duck in the sink" and "The boss never travels without his penguin". Often I get lessons wrong, and I cannot figure out why. I later find out that there was a piece of grammar that I did not know. Hey thanks for not telling me Duo! Sometimes I just do not understand the English as it is too weird or just wrong, For example they say "Plates, glasses, cups and bowls are examples of dishes". No they are not Duo! They translate "Ils ont du mal à comprendre" as "They are confused" which is wrong. And they translate "I am travelling to the eastern US" as "Je voyage dans l’Est des États Unis" which is wrong, the French phrase means "I am travelling IN the eastern US". The poor standard of English makes me worry about the French. The poor translations confuse me. I’ve asked native French speakers to help and they told me the Duo French is sometimes a bit clunky, or mistranslated. Another issue is the wokeness. Duo is über woke and I hate that. I do not want someone to preach their religion to me. Lastly the leagues and points are dreadful. They encourage you to do lessons too fast to get more points. I like to think about lessons, practice variations, and make sure it sinks in. I do like Busuu, it seems more professional, no computer generated voices and lots of grammar lessons. I am not sure it exercises the language learnt enough, Duo is strong on that front.

Duolingo doesn’t ever talk about religion. Unless your talking about the inclusion of gay people. Lol I didn’t know that gay people qualified as a religion 😂 good to know
@StillAliveAndKicking_
@StillAliveAndKicking_ 7 ай бұрын
@@TheAayize Identity politics, sometimes referred to as woke, is a religion, because it is absolute, it has no empirical justification i.e. evidence and it does not tolerate dissent. Approximately half the adult characters are gay, whereas only 5% of real people are. By all means include gay people, but they should not create a false reality. They do this of course because they are driven by identity politics which is a hateful, oppressive, racist and bigoted creed.

I'm going to 2nd the religion thing... I've never had religion pushed down my throat from duo. They are more inclusive of equality but that's not religion. Unless you are talking about learning vocabulary like.. church, mosque and synagogue?

Another thing I like about buusu is it told me it would take me 162 months to get from elementary to intermediate level using their program. I found this to be very helpful in setting a realistic goal and knowing what to expect in my learning journey. No other program spelled it out for me like that.

I like Duolingo for its game style. 😅 It's not so good, if you are really motivated to learn language and want to learn ir seriously.. 🤷‍♀️ In that case, this looong way just to collect new words.. Not so nice. For me - just interested in different languages, no real need to learn, no big motivation - this game style works great! 😁

I am using paid versions of both - and do lessons every day in both. I don't agree with verdict. Some aspect are indeed more attractive in Busuu - but in general Duo teaches much more than Busuu course, and much more repetitions to have everything really learned, not only watched once or twice.

It important to note that Duolingo is actually closer to Latin American Spanish than Spain Spanish and doesn't teach the vosotros form and Busuu is much closer to Spain Spanish and teaches that form. Personally I wish these apps would teach Colombian Spanish instead of Spain Spanish.
