I was excited when I saw you had a video today...I’ve been looking for you! I enjoyed your beautiful daffodils and it inspired me to plant more this fall. Hadn’t seen you in a while and I knew you where probably busy and the gardens are still waking up. Up here in our zone 5 there are hints of life, including product starting to show up in the garden centers. We just had snow that actually stuck to the ground in the past couple of days! But the sun is out today! THANKS again for your enjoyable and informative videos!

I have to remind myself this is just April. Here in zone 4b, our gardens wake up in May. I get discouraged when I don't see life yet in my perennials. I need to divide some hostas and haven't seen their spikes emerge yet. But, patience.

How do you deal with the fading foliage of the daffodils? My garden looks so shabby in May.
@ydoyougarden3 жыл бұрын
the hostas hide the foliage. I am not sure how the daffs flanking the entrance will look though. I may plant some annuals there right away or just wait for a few weeks until the ugliness is gone.

Yulia, your garden looks so enchanting right now. The combination of the daffodils with the pansies is so sweet and such a complimentary combination. I planted 1200 tulips last fall but it's been a battle since then to protect them. I think I'm going to concentrate on mostly planting daffodils this fall since you get such an amazing show for such less fuss (I have to spray my tulips every day with liquid fence, or they disappear). Thank you for sharing such a pretty picture with us!
@Edu_Kate3 жыл бұрын
I'm living on borrowed time with my tulips. I check them frequently and yesterday thought some of the leaves looked smushed 🐇. I will have to sprinkle Repels-All, but we're supposed to have about 5 days of rain and I think that means I have to reapply with each rain.
@MrRogersTrolley3 жыл бұрын
@@Edu_Kate I understand! The repells all isn't as effective in my neck of the woods as the liquid fence which is keeping all the critters away so far (not just deer, rabbits). I've been using both. Repells all maybe once/wk and a light spray of liquid fence every day whether or not it rains. I notice as soon as I miss a day with the liquid fence, something steals a nibble. I don't think I want to keep doing this every year but I've put so much time in I refuse to give up now, lol! Good luck with yours; I hope the critters leave them be!

Beautiful Inspiration to plant more daffodils and consider adding muscari and mertensia for more color. Thank you.
@emmalavenham3 жыл бұрын
We will be going all in on Virginia bluebells to bring more color to one of our woodland spaces. But we will be going to go bare root (in the fall) or plugs (in the early spring) so we can plant en masse cost effectively.

Fantastic display, I love it all! I still have some daffs blooming. I have a lot of different varieties because I have a friend that has been giving me bulbs over the years and I have added as well. My faves are Ice Folly, Ice King, and Replete. I did some big pots starting with crocus, daffs, and tulips. I over wintered my pots in my garage and watered them lightly every few weeks. They did great and have brought me so much pleasure. I also love the Exotic Emperor Tulip, Foxtrot, and Negrita Tulip. I am 6a as well at moment and moving to 8a. soon. Thanks for all your help when I have asked you questions. By the way I want to hug your dog, he is so cute!

Love all your daffodils!!! I, too, have deer, chipmunks and squirrels, so I started planting daffodils, for over 40 years now. I have an acre of oak and hickory forest here in NW Indiana and have carved out beds over the years. Your idea of planting Virginia Bluebells is on point. That's what I did 20 years ago and I combined them with Summer Snowflake bulbs Leucojum aestivum. As the vivid yellow of the daffodils fade, my yard becomes blue and white- and highlighted by my pink saucer magnolia. Then everything goes to green with hostas. Thank you so much for your inspirational videos and sharing your garden knowledge 🌱
