She has a very good starting position: her eyes and jawbone are very similar to Carrie Fisher's back in the day, but seeing her working on her makeup made me realize that she needed quite serious skills to get from there to the point of "we need a double for young Carrie Fisher! I know, let's call that KZbinr, what's her name? Macksy?" Very impressive, indeed

Quick tip my sewing teacher taught me, during the depression they used to use the small pieces of soap and use it as chalk. Save up the little leftover soap bits and choose the best color for your fabric, it washes right off.

I was about to leave the same comment, where I live seamstress chalk is expensive for the sewing projects I have/make (totebags for groceries esp) and is also eco-friendly since you are using those left-over bits and not throwing them away.

Some people can only feel good about themselves by putting others down. It's nothing new, but they gain quite easy volume on social media. I think shes awesome just for even trying. I'm too lazy to even try.
@Lisa_Flowers
@Lisa_Flowers 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think people always do it with the purpose of condescending or putting people down. They're probably just reacting and saying what they actually think lol, that's generally how people watch videos, by reacting with their immediate emotions and thoughts. Like if you've done something before and made an obvious or big mistake (which literally everyone does, no one is perfect) you'd probably have a big reaction to seeing someone else do it. Or if there is an easier way of doing something and you see someone do it the hardest way, you'd likely also have a big reaction. People could definitely be more thoughtful of how their words affect others, especially people newer to something, but I don't think most people are saying it for the sole purpose of looking down on her lol. And almost everyone does this (or at least thinks it) with something they've done for a while, especially when they see a complete beginner (which Rachel isn't, just an example)

It’s actually the current sizes in stores that are made up, not the pattern sizes. The pattern sizes are what store sizes use to be and the stores have slowly deflated the numbers to make people feel better about themselves (which is stilly because it’s just a number. It means nothing about you). It’s called vanity sizing. You should start by measuring yourself and finding what pattern company size would fit you best (I always go by bust (or hips of it’s a skirt) and tailor in from there). The companies (simplicity, vogue, McCall’s, etc) all have similar sizing but it’s good to check before you buy. Especially since many pattern companies have sizes 8-14 and 16-20 in different envelopes. For reference I’m a 8/10 and wear 14/16 patterns. It seems like madness but you’ll get used to it.

I feel like Cathy Hay and all of the ones that are really deep this is their degree/ line of work (dress historians) would agree though. That while you can study all the stitching techniques and the preservation and the style. You're never going to be sitting there by candle light with salt cured ham and such because your ice box is a cellar and your house is a one maybe 2 room thing with 4 people in it you have to boil water to bathe. I'm studying to be an art history major double majoring in museum studies and at one point I wanted to do Dress history. Its only now seeing Bernadettes videos that I realize how big it is. But I found something I loved in art history and museum studies interning in the collections department if I could work there even in a small sense not a curatorial sense I'd be so happy

I'm here over a year later and perhaps you'll never see this but... Wow. This is a 10/10 Rachel Maksy video. The ambition of the project, the gung-ho spirit, the truly creative idea, the sewing journey, the transformation, the humor, the Frodo appearances, the attention to detail in the editing... I am AMAZED at the amount of hard work you put into this. 👏👏👏 Rachel, well done, and thanks for brightening my quarantine.

I have been soooo impressed with the progress you have made in your sewing. In earlier videos, I wished you had someone to help you--yes, I'm old enough to be your grandmother--but, you are really doing very well. This was a very involved pattern!!! And you did it, girl!!! :-)

Your sewing is getting really good so quickly! That's how I costume as well - jump right in and learn the techniques needed for the project if I don't already know them. You should come to Costume College in LA next July! It's a whole 3 day convention of costuming, cosplay, making foam armour, and everything! I think you'd love it! And you get to wear all your stuff too!

I suggest looking the pattern up on youtube because on occasion you do find someone who reviewed it or even does step by step sewing. I'm new to sewing with a pattern and I've just been mostly winging it because most patterns don't come in my size. You poor innocent basket of kittens and puppies. lol. And thats what i love about Rachel she knows her limits and she will try it but she knows its not gonna be perfect . but at the end hers look so good .
