Like your explanation of ant 1 and 2 on the MOFI4500. I have been having 2 wires coming out of an antenna, that has vert and horizontal on it. I have had one plugged into the primary and one into the secondary. So guessing I need to combine the 2, and get maybe a parabolic for the primary. Thanks for informative info.
@rockernro2 жыл бұрын
If you have two antennas plugged in one primary and one secondary that’s good! Primary typically uses best antenna for signal strength whereas the secondary aids in signal quality. I typically dial in my primary and then adjust the secondary to enhance the signal quality while checking the decibels in real time in the settings. Depending on your type of antennas you may want a parabolic as a primary and use one of your pre-existing antennas as a the secondary or you can actually get 2 parabolics. Regardless, a parabolic as a primary will significantly improve speeds and your signal strength. If you are using an older mofi, use a home router a good one to speed it up even more.

Thanks for your service. I retired from the Army with 21 years of service. Wish these videos were available before I purchased my MOFI back in April 2020 then I would have known not to get the SIM7 which MOFI recommended to me. Since I do have a SIM 7 and can't do carrier aggregation not sure how much improvements I will see. I was on the phone for over an hour with Tier 2 Verizon support and they were telling me the towers around my location only operate on 300MHZ and 450MHZ and depending on the cell plan you have determines what Verizon assigns you. I was told the MHZ really did not have anything to do with UP or DOWN speed it was just a way to group phones hitting that tower but hell I have no idea what to believe. My down speeds on the best of times is like 4 MBS. Will be ordering a parabolic to see if I can get it to help. If I can't get it to work AT&T just built a new tower about 2 miles from my house and sent me a sales flyer for $49 per month for 500GB for the fixed wireless plan may give them a shot.

Definitely agree on your first point. I was getting 5-20 on Verizon, and was trying damn near everything to get more speed out of it. Tried out at&t and boom instantly 100+ same tower same signal strengths. You've got to check which carriers are on which towers and be willing to try different ones.

True, I did try AT&T but it didn't work for me. Even without the router that John Bart recommended the speeds I was getting were only 5-10 max and with Verizon its way faster where I live. Now I wonder if with T-Mobile the speeds could be faster but I stay with Verizon because of the Unlimited plan I got.

So the YAGIs have a lower range? I live about 9 miles from any towers in the mountains. No direct line of sight. I've been using 2 YAGIs, but the results have been poor, especially when it comes to upload speeds. I'm thinking about getting 1 parabolic grid antenna to start and pairing that with a YAGI as a secondary and seeing if that works better. Plus right now I can only really get bands 12 and 14, with 14 being the faster one. I can get bands 4, 5, and sometimes 2, but they are unusable. Also carrier aggregation doesn't seem to work at all. If a parabolic grid antenna opens up more band options, that would be great.
@rockernro2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I was about same distance with no line of site and I went from -114 to -103 with one parabolic and one Yagi . And yes, the parabolic saw more bands as well! Try it out remember it’s super directional so you can turn it inch by inch and basically walk it on a signal. Be patient you’ll get it because you already have some with the yagis! Let me know how you make out!

@@rockernro Got my parabolic and set it up over the weekend. At first things were going great. The signal strength was just about 2dBm better on average so not anything worth getting excited over, and I still only got bands 12 and 14 well enough to use. But carrier aggregation was working! I was getting double the usual download speeds. And then it rained and I haven't seen CA since. The good news is that my uploads speeds still are 3x to 10x better, which makes my internet so much more usable for video calls. I still have a lot of experimenting to do though. I'll get sim cards for different carriers and see if any of their towers are better. This is all so time consuming though, and I think I'm already in it for over $1k, which is crazy considering the slow speeds I get, but I work from home and would like to keep it that way.

So I had the same issue with band 13 giving me terrible speeds. When I used B13 with B4 or B2 I got mega speeds. The proxicast can only shoot so far so if there’s bands out there like 2 and 4 you might need to get the parabolic to pick them up. Maybe use the proxicast as your secondary ant. Hope this helps let me know how you make out

@@rockernrothank you for replying! Where I live I pick up bands 2, 4, 5 and 13. Signal is decent on all bands but the best speeds I could ever get were about 30 down. Recently tho my speeds have fallen below 10 down on band 13 and about 3 down on bands 2, 4 and 5. I'm closer to a band 13 tower and am about 7 miles from the nearest band 4 tower. Was thinking about ditching the proxicast for the parabolic so I can lock in to the tower better. When using the proxicast as the second antenna, is there a particular way you have to wire the atennas for one to be the primary and other the secondary? Or does the mofi figure that out on its own?
@rockernro3 жыл бұрын
@@Bobbcudi your speeds might have fallen bc or your sim. That’s a little dramatic from 30 to 10. Is your sim getting throttled? A parabolic will DEFINITELY make speeds better though bc it is laser pointed in tower direction it don’t matter if the better bands are further or have worse DBs. Bands 4 and 2 put out higher GHZ which in essence gives faster speeds. So the proxicast probably has 2 pigtail cords on it right? I would say use only one end and plug it via LMR to the mofi. The mofi antenna ports are labeled on top of mofi. One says primary antenna port, that should be the parabolic port the other use for the proxicast. Another thing is you can try flip flopping your proxicast wires see if that helps in the meantime.

Wine Country Games there’s no reason it should drop that low. A. Do you have it locked on the band or bands that’s giving you that great speed? If not it will Jump around on you and B.
