You are correct on the bridge problem, if the edges have blunted already your kind of screwed because you can't replace them, in theory you can on Ibanez bridges, but they nerer made the knife edge a part you could buy, it isn't the bridge, as they are well respected for staying in tune when installed correctley and Wilkinsons top of the range unit is used by multiple upper middle range manufacturers.

If you ever go ahead and do that repair to the non-straight studs, when you reach the stage of removing the threaded part from the guitar body (the piece into which the pivot actually screws itself into), here's a tip, otherwise you'll completely ruin your guitar: unscrew the pivot completely, put in a small screw or metallic piece that will slide into the shaft about 2/3 of the way, then screw the pivot back on top of that piece and when it makes contact after about 1/3 of the way in, continue to gently, but firmly screw it in. What will happen is, instead of the piece biting into the wood, it will actually lift up the threaded piece you're trying to remove. I know it's hard to visualize it all from what I just said, but it's actually the only way in which you can get them out with zero scratches. Just make sure that if you do use a screw, you point it upwards and not downwards into the shaft, aka put it upside-down, so that it doesn't go into the body when you perform the above-mentioned operation. Message me back if you need more help with this, I'd be glad to assist you!

Sometimes you get lucky and the threaded inserts are loose and can pull right out. I have gone to a hardware store and found a bolt that fit in the insert. Used some washers and some wood with a towel on the guitar body and as you tighten the bolt the insert will come up.

A combination of things : Bridge posts are an issue it will continue to bind at the posts if not corrected, Tunq nuts do require some dressing and are an approximation of where they need to be slotted, string trees need to be upgraded, intonation will never be correct unless the post and bridge are not set correct. and locking tuners will be a godsend. I have a PRS Tremonti and I got an Se version. I updated the nut. pickups to Fisman, and PRS locking tuners. Once it was set up and dialed in it's pretty damn close to my Tremonti playing and tuning stability wise. Tone wise its a bit thicker and quieter. I use both live but I favor the Se.

First problem is the posts don't look like they are in all of the way. The other thing you can try is add a spring and use the claw to adjust the bridge tension. I find only 2 springs will work to tune but they typically don't have enough tension to return to the original place. Add a spring and loosen the claw a little to get the bridge level. Changing to locking tuners won't necessarily fix the tuning issue though if they are cheap tuners and the posts wiggle when you take tension off, upgrading could help. Personally, I would never use a floating bridge without a locking nut.

Gee why didn't I think of that? Just kidding. Yeah, I tried that but it wasn't totally clear. With the switch in position one, I'd tap the middle pickup and still hear a little something. So the only way to tell for sure was to undo the wires one at a time.
@crunchchannel9391
@crunchchannel9391 Жыл бұрын
One thing you have to remember HAVE to is there is around 90lbs of tension on 009s when tuned up to A440 (standard tuning) so in order to keep the bridge floating the springs have to pull at the same tension. Whats that mean? you have 90lbs of string tension and 90lbs of SPRING tension so thats around a total of 180 lbs of pressure on those 2 little posts and to top it all off its pivoting on the edge of those knife blades it pivots on. If the knife edge isnt made of a good quality hardend steel those edges will get trashed in a matter of seconds specially if you adjust the hight of the posts trying to rase or lower the bridge under full tension (yes i mean in tune) raising and lowering by turning those big bolts while those knife blades are jammed into those 2 little posts with a 180lb person standing on em. What will happen? my theory is the wood used for the body is soft like bass wood or a cheaper type of wood that cant handle the tension of those posts. If you try and fix it use a good hard wood to fill it like a larger 1" dowel rod made of maple or something really hard and put the posts back into the harder wood then drill the holes into the harder wood.

Yes the posts can definitely do that. Nuts have such little impact on tuning stability it is most likely in the bridge. Make sure the bridge plate is tightly secured to the block and that the pivot posts are not loose and moving. If you can tighten post all the way down if your guitar allows, they can always move down but can never move up. Setup is final, if you bend all strings and tune than physics says a dive or pull up will sharp and bending will have no impact, if you dive then tune diving will have no impact and bending will go flat while pulls will go,sharp, pull up and tune is similar story pull up no impact, bending flat and dive also flat but only slight.

Those posts are messed up but it’s an easy fix. Regarding Musiclily, I ordered a new pickguard from them for my Jazz bass and the screw holes lined up perfectly. That’s absolutely unheard of, even when you buy direct replacements from Fender. I’ll be buying from them again.
@guitarste
@guitarste Жыл бұрын
Are the posts threads snug or are they loose in the threaded sockets causing them to lean forwards? I found that on any (normally on cheap licenced trems) where the posts can be wobbled in the threaded sockets are the ones which do not hold tuning after using the bar and are likely to go sharp or flat when returning to zero position. In contrast with for example a Schaller the posts are stiff to turn and do not wobble even before fitting the bridge onto the pivots and hold the tuning stability as it should be. I am thinking if you can use some plumbers tape on the threads and see if that holds them straighter and firmer and cures the problem?

Hey man, nice vid... If you're having problems with uneven frets after you have leveled them it's probably because some aren't seated properly and they are boinging up after the weight of your leveling bar is removed. It will appear they are leveled and the sharpie will be sanded off but they are most likely popping up. You can super glue them back down then re level and crown. The other problem is probably your nut slots but also could be your blade edges on your trem. Yes they make counterfeit versions of that bridge which are made of soft inferior metal that dulls in a matter of minutes. If all the strings won't return to zero it's most likely your trem blade edges. If it's just a string or two it's probably your nut.

Also if those studs are anchored very well and don't have any play in them (don't wiggle), slanting like they are won't cause the guitar to not return to zero. Another thing about that particular tremolo bridge is that there's different grades of quality depending on the model number and which manufacturer produced and in which country. The best in my opinion of that bridge is the Gotoh version made in Japan.
@bradleyclosson5042
@bradleyclosson5042 Жыл бұрын
And the posts should be good quality. The good ones are center drilled and tapped with a hex grub going through it which is intended to be tightened down after adjusting your height of the stud to lock it firmly in place.

I've been a carpenter for 25 years and I used to do landscaping and everything else during high School to make money. I can tell you one thing about being in the trades. Buy the best tools that are available to you even if you only get one every couple weeks. Eventually you'll get there and having the best tools really makes a world of difference anybody that tells you different is wrong. End the motto from any trades person around the world is it looks so nice because I did it twice...... And I love. Getting a guitar and slowly upgrading it the way you want. My Firefly everytime I put that fflp and somebody's hands and they don't look at the ad stock you like mayonnaise guitars fuckingawesome. And then I tell him I'm into it for less than $500 and they said what I can swear this thing was like cost you over $2,500 all day long. But I like doing things myself and I like having things different than everybody else to like you don't signature touch. Until you remove and re-drill the post holes perfectly straight the trem will never return to tune. Removing the threaded inserts without damaging the finish is the tricky part. The safest way is to make a puller and well pad the body to prevent damage. I am sure there must be video's on here showing how to do it the safe way. Locking tuners make little difference to a guitar that won't stay in tune, they only make changing the strings easier. Best of luck removing those threaded studs.

I didn't really check it that closely before taking out a spring. I'll put it back in and see if it helps.

I have a dean guitar with a floyd rose and to be honest with you; I don't like floyd rose anymore because it's frustrating to tune the guitar strings. I even used the whammy bar and it goes out of tune when using it even though I tried to level it back to normal with the whammy bar. 😤🎸

Why were you so shocked at the wiring of the pickups? A strat with a three way blade switch is wired exactly the same. Bridge-middle-neck only.

First, if those are not new strings, get some, stretch the heck out of them before you tune the guitar, and use nut lube . If that doesn't work and you go for the bridge, don't use wood filler etc, use a hardwood dowel rod from HD and good wood glue. IMPORTANT, get a metric ruler, you'll get a percise measure for the peg distances.

I could, but if I can't get the posts straight and fix the tuning issue, I'll just take the bridge off and put a hardtail bridge on it. A much cheaper and easier solution. Thanks.

I’m with you on the non Floyd Rose super strats , but I wonder if you’ve ever played one with a Floyd that’s decked ? I think I might like a decked FR EVH style. My only real experience has been a RG550 with the floating edge lo pro which is a fantastic tremolo by the way, but they’re a pain to change string gauges and tunings due to the floating aspect. I love the fine tuners and locking the SOB down at the nut and as long as the strings are stretched and it’s set up correctly it ain’t going out of tune and it’s fun to be able to flutter but I really wouldn’t ever use it in a song context. The reason I’m asking is because I know you got that Baretta special and I’m interested to see what you think about it ? Especially since you seem to find value in the Ali express knock offs. I think it’s pretty hard to beat for the money but I can’t lie I’ve been tossing the idea of putting a Gotoh 1996T on it deck it and shim the neck if necessary I think I might get better tuning stability out of it , due to the banana headstock and the extreme angle the strings come out of the back of the nut . I’ve put a Wilkinson vintage 6 screw tremolo,gotoh locking tuners and a graph tech XL nut and the high e still binds . I’d say that it’s a good chance you’re tuning issues are coming from those posts leaning towards the neck, when you dump the bar the knife edges are slipping down past their zero point probably because string tension pulls them up past true zero to start and you tune up and the springs pull it past the notch , especially if all 6 strings are going sharp with a graph tech nut, strings will bind in a graph tech nut but usually not all 6 of them. Can you tighten the springs down and deck that tremolo to the body ? That might make it so you can dive and come back to the same spot every time at least until you can get the posts straightened out. The only other way I could see is if you set your bridge perpendicular to the grove on the posts instead of level with the body, those studs leaning have moved your true zero point to an angle not even with the guitar body and you will never return to zero unless it’s exactly perpendicular to the studs if you have the base set parallel to the body it’s the same as having a rear routed trem slanted back into the route . I don’t know if any of that makes any sense but I’d say if you loosen your springs and line the base or knife edges up with the skinny part of the posts where the edge contacts the posts it should return to the same spot. Another issue could be cheap posts or knife edges being too soft ?

Great Jam as always Richard .. Regarding the bridge , it is pretty odd to place the post tilted forward , but as long as they 're mounted solidly in and not loose , I 'd suggest you leave it as is and not fill and re-drill the holes . Almost 99% of floating bridge with no locking nuts will go off tune with whammy use , it is a common issue ... you could either completely get rid of whammy , or place a locking nut which then require a bridge with fine tuners , or replace the tuners with good quality locking tuners . Put the 3rd tension spring back on and, adjust the bridge tension accordingly so it sits flush and straight on the body in standard tuning , then it is just a matter of playing for a while for the strings to stretch and settle down Great looking guitar though

Hey Richard, before you fill in the holes and drill new ones, try adding another spring, maybe it doesn't have enough tension to go back, but without having the guitar in my hands, I can only guess. I recommend checking out this video ---> kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZ3Yhq2dedyqmdU and follow every step as he explains it, that's the way I learned to set up this kind of trem a couple of years ago, always works for me.
