I remember watching the movie multiple times when I was a kid and I remember really enjoying it. Never knew it was a flop. I don’t think I will watch it again though. I’ll just keep it in my childhood memory as a great movie.

Just rewatched it a month ago first time since back then. It’s actually not a bad movie, I still enjoyed it. I think the flop was more so about the changing of the guard in movie land . Star Wars was the new thing & Jaws, The Lone Ranger at that moment seemed kind of tame I’m sure. I was a younger kid at the time so had no way of knowing if it was a flop or not but loved it on VHS.

I remember going with my mom to see this movie at the Hastings Ranch theater in Pasadena, CA (now a 24 hr fitness I think) and in the ticket window they had the Lone Ranger action figure and Silver the horse on display in a cool pose. I really wanted it and didn't understand why I couldn't have the one in the window. I eventually got that and Tonto and Butch and their horses, I guess it must have been Christmas that year? I don't know but I still have them all, more or less intact. I think I liked the movie but I do remember being impatient about when Lone Ranger would finally show up. It's a long origin story. Despite being a flop, I wouldn't be surprised if it remained in the theaters for a little while. I feel like a flop in 1980 would remain in theaters for longer than a hit in 2023 remains in theaters. There was also the Filmation animated series that ran as late as 1982. So those could have been reasons for the toy line hanging on as long as it did. The cartoon used these same basic designs.

Dad loved westerns so I saw the movie. Never had the small figures, but I had the 10 inch Ranger and Silver and my brother had the 10 inch Tonto and Scout. If I would’ve had any of these, it would’ve been the Ranger and Silver.

I played a lot with the Lone Ranger and Zorro figures at the time until GI Joe came along and dominated everything.

Awesome figure line and actually a movie I loved seeing when it came out (it might've been one of the few I went to see a second time. It's also one the last 2 toylines I had nearly all of (Tonto's Scout and the Western Town being the only pieces I think I was missing.). Shame the lead actor siituation was what it was; had it had someone else I think it' d have been a success, if not a hit. Also terrible how they treated Clayton Moore (probably John Hart too) during this time; another nail in the coffin of the franchise's newest incarnation. The cartoon was going strong with us fans and his reruns were still everywhere and as loved by various generations. As for the Zorro line; I had his figure and either Toronado or Butch's horse. But I never set eyes on the others that I can recall. Shame too; they had the troop builders, it seems, that tLR's line was sorely lacking. And on an9ther note, I really missed the ball back then by not painting up a custom with his red shirt look.

I have all these figures of both series Ranger & Zorro & extra horses to hold them. I also display them alongside the Indiana Jones figure & the Butch Cassidy & Sundance figures, they all give the same vibe.

Awesome videos. Thank you for your videos. I never had The Lone Ranger figures but had Kenner's Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid Line. I rebought some recently and the quick draw features on all of them still works. I believe they came out in the early 80s as well. Take care.

I didn't know there was ever a Coming Soon back on the backcards. I got those figures as soon as they hit the stores. Maybe those Coming Soon backcards never made it to Northwest GA.

Yes I still have mine. I never had tanto but I had Butch cabin b**** animal ranger. I think I got them on a trip to a store that used to be called 2 guys and they had them there in a discount area like one of those bins that I 2 for $5 or whatever so I thought that was really cool. I remember the movie and I didn't see it in the theaters but did see it on cable TV later. No I didn't think it was that bad but I barely remember it now
