Ah, yes...the dam at the south end of Lake Galena. I spent a lot of time there back 1975-1995. I remember when the lake was about 20 ft below the full water mark and there was no golf course yet.

@@hottomek7423 Start in Springfield and tour the area. There is a recreation of Lincoln era New Salem and many Lincoln historical sites. At the far southern tip is the River to River trail. A really different place as it is pretty hilly. Up near Galena is Mississippi Palisades State Park. It is beautiful. Another place that is out of the ordinary is Sand Ridge State Park. Huge tree covered sand hills make for an interesting, but sometimes difficult hike.
