Breaking down an entire whitetail deer using handmade, stone knives. Thanks to my good friend Dave for a really cool idea. I was surprised how well these knives worked!

Stone knives aside, this is a great video to show young hunters, and those new to hunting. A true hunter needs to learn, and enjoy, the cleaning and processing of deer. It adds to the whole experience, and memory. The practice, the anticipation, the hunt, the kill, the rewards. Great tasting venison, and great memories are the rewards.

My favorite part of the skinning, quartering and butchering process is cutting out the backstraps. Least favorite is cutting out the rear-quarters

I see a lot of videos making these stones knives but not many using them. I am now interested in giving stone arrow heads for my long bow a try. Thanks for the video. Alot sharper than I was thinking they would be.

Wow!!! That's awesome!! I've got a couple of those flint knives in a glass box that my Granddad gave me a while back before his passing.. His best friend was into making knives and he had also made a few small hatchet's just for skinning out and butcher'n deer and they were some of the sharpest tools I've used and absolutely perfect to process the deer!! The part where you was cutting or sawing through the backbone, you didn't have to apply pressure to cut through it,,, it just cut right on through!! Thank you for sharing this video!!!

Where do the serration edges go when they are dulled by bone? Seems logical that they would flake off into the meat...

This was a good idea for a great video. I've made stone tools long ago but never cut up anything with one. I also want to thank you for what you said about the ethics of behind-the-shoulder shots vs neck or head shots. I don't care how good of a shot you are, you are shooting at a live animal that can move at the last split second of the shot. We need the margin of error of the biggest vital target. Thanks for producing "real" content, not enough of that out there.

I got into knapping about a year ago. Haven’t gotten my hands on any obsedian yet to try. You would be amazed at how sharp flint will get!! It’s a very interesting hobby. Love looking for artifacts also. That led to wanting to make them like the natives. I’m from around dale hollow and that flint knife looks a lot like the flint we have. That color and a darker blue flint. Cool video

Nice first time I've seen this. I heard these are sharper than a steel blade but more fragile. I have a nice hand knapped knife but I'm not sure I want to try that. BTW Scammers found your channel, I think your followers are too smart to fall for that crud.

Aging meat is a ritual, especially with older deer. 3-4 days under 40 degrees allows the meat fibers to relax and tenderize. In the upper north, we need to skin and quarter, and get meat in coolers so it doesn’t freeze so hard you can’t cut it.
