Butchie was one of the characters on the show I respected the most. He knew drug dealers gonna deal drugs, drug robbers gonna rob them for them, no matter what he or anyone else did, so he just took a quiet piece of it while trying to keep the peace between them if he could. He knew Omar had a code and so he was ok with him taking off these other un-coded up gangsters for their shit who'd shoot their own mother to make an extra buck. He could tell good from evil, evil from good, and the gray area in between. Prop Joe put the perfect words on that flower arrangement card. And Butchie went out like a true loyal friend to Omar, saying nothing because he knew the life he lived had consequences and he was facing them. Literally one of the realest ones in the game.

Just playing the gray area in between for something he already knew WOULD happen regardless, for his own well being. But as he said to omar, conscience do cost. I'm sure he took no solace in what he did, he just knew there was no stopping it so he might as well use it to his advantage. And the world turns, ambivalent to our personal issues. The game is the game. (Also I never said he was a good person, just one of the realest ones in the game, but yeah that prolly was the worst thing he did overall)

Perfect judgement call in a situation that he did not instigate. Marlo on the other hand wanted to kill Omar, not just frame a corrupt cop. So it's blood against money situation, not the same at all. The part about him talking about real mob history of Baltimore really helped flesh out the lore, Avon and the West side's NYC connection dates all the way back to the 60s with the italian mafia, probably indirectly through Black Mob connection in Pleasant Avenue, East Harlem(Bumpy Johnson and Frank Lucas) This also showcases how different Marlo was from Avon and how it changed the underworld politics, where it used to be West side being backed by NYC black mob and therefore are ok with NY gangs crouching on Baltimore, whereas Prop Joe wishes to resist them, Avon's drug supply came from the dominicans in Harlem while his muscle when needed was recruited through NY black mob. The first time Avon asked about Marlo he immediately asked Slim Charles if Marlo is backed by the mob, and when told he is an independent he was furious that they are losing turf to someone with no backing, this also explains why Pro Joe later asked Marlo to deal with NY gangs, Marlo as an independent has no incentive not to take them out.

What I got from Butchie role, he was the bank for the streets(Omar mainly); he never picked sides, stayed neutral, and played mediator during conflicts.. Everyone respected him, because his credibility was intact- but, his downfall was due to breaking one of the things that kept the wolves at bay, his neutrality, by choosing sides with Omar. His lifestyle of "ripping and running" he had to live a life of incognito of living in various abandoned buildings. If he had a residence, I'm pretty sure that it would be easy to track him. Also, he's a lifelong criminal with a lengthy rap sheet (including an attempted murder charge) and no proof of employment. I'd think it'll be hard for him to even be approved for an apartment

My favorite scene with Buchie was him and Omar talking after Bunk gets on Omar after getting him out from prison. Omar for probably the first time in his life has his beliefs shaken and feels unsure of himself after Bunk in my opinion rightfully criticized Omar for his negative downrigjt toxic affect on the kids and community making choldren believe the way he lives is something to be idealized. Butchie tries to warn Omar that allowing that seed of doubt in himself and what he does having internal conflict throws him off his game and that if he allows that to happen Omar is as good as dead. Then tells him Bunk was just working him with guilt which is true Bunk had to hurt Omar where it hurt him most destroying Omar's feeling of moral superiority over the drug runners in the city. And I just loved that Butchie tries to keep it simple for Omar in saying everyone is what they are and will do what they want to do end they have to be true to their nature and feels like they were just wanted to say "THE GAME IS THE GAME"

Something I just noticed watching this was Butchies' "sight" kicking in when Snoop walked in the store. You can practically see the gears start turning in his head that something was wrong before he asked who it was and when his guy responds "little girl" I think you can start to hear him say something right as Chris busted in the door which I feel might have been a follow up/warning question. Knowing Butchie kept an ear to the ground with what was going on in The Game, he most likely knew one of Marlos 2 enforcers was a short female which would be noteworthy/talked about as females in the Game were seemingly a rarity (Snoop is the only one I can recall who was apart of a crew not counting Tosha and Kimmy as they were Stick-up artists) especially considering Marlo ruled the Westside at this point and Chris and Snoop were notorious across Baltimore. Also Butchie probably knew Omar had stepped on Marlo's insecure toes at some point and he'd be gunning for Omar.
