One of my favorite fan theories is that Little Carmine is actually putting on a front the whole time that he's dumb and lets the others like Phil and Johnny Sack duke it out. He stays away from overt violence the whole time but he's consistently shown as having a lot of money and being eager to move into more legit business like he does with Chris and the movie studio and Hollywood stuff. When the series ends he'd be in one of the best positions to take over and consolidate power in New York and Jersey. Everyone else is mostly dead, in jail or broke or some combination of that. He'd have more money and influence than anybody and soldiers and captains would flock to him for work.

Not the case at all, because the mob didn't decay, even in real life the mob is still very powerful if not just as powerful, rather the final sitdown was supposed to show that they aren't as untouchable as they think, because like you said in your comment their normal sit-downs take place in high-class location over delicious food and wine because these guys have power and can do things like that while on the other hand the final sit-down takes place in the hangar while in the cold while drinking water bottles because they're in the middle of a war the outside party such as other street gangs or separate families can easily take advantage and try to take him out during this sit down so they have to choose a location where they can be safe, so rather than showing the decay of the mob that scene was actually trying to show you The Not So Glamorous side of that lifestyle

Butchie pulled the strings. The final episode, and the final scene had Butchie written all over it. He tried to push Phil into killing Tony very early on. When Phil was out of the picture, Butchie decided Tony had to go. He even set up the Doc hit. I've heard so many different conspiracies around the Sopranos ending, but the one that makes the most sense is that Butchie had tony killed. Tony pointed a gun in his face, Butchie wouldn't let that slide. The fact that Jersey took out Phil justified Tony getting whacked. They basically laid out what they wanted to do. Take out upper management... Tony, Silvio, and Bobby. That sit down NJ had with NY was a ploy with the added benefit of taking Phil out of the equation.

@@ceerious that pygmy thing in Jersey had to be restructured so it could benefit NY. Butchie had no loyalties to Tony (or Jersey). He was always plotting behind the scenes. Phil even said that he wouldn't wack a boss... Butchie was fine with it though. So they decided to let Tony take out Phil, so they could justify killing Tony. If we got a peek into the future of the Soprano family (after the finale), I wouldn't be surprised if Paulie had some knowledge about what was going on... maybe he became the boss. Thanks for your reply... I appreciate it.

Carmella's total stupidity when dealing with AJ was a sin; when Tony tried to instill till some common sense discipline she destroyed Tony. Carmella and Janice ALWAYS played one person against another in every situation. And they were both completely insecure and were unable to mature in any way. Carmella's schoolgirl fixation with Furio was pathetic. The guys used violence to settle grievances; these two lived for the petty jealousies. ...just as evil, just not as violent. Little Carmine was said too many stupid things to be as stupid as he appeared. As for Phil; I thought he was a prick during the first run of the series. However after watching the series twice since then, I realize that all things considered; he was actually one of the more reasonable characters. He had a bit of a chip on his shoulder when he came out, but it was well within the bounds of what would be only natural, especially compared with people line Feech and Richie.

For these gangsters, the biggest psychological problem is that their work is not recognized by the society and the legal system. They know that their actions will eventually be severely punished, so they can never enjoy life and face morality like a normal person in their psychological world. Therefore, even though they have their own families and friends, they can never live like a normal person, and all their affection and friendship may be betrayed and deceived.

I didn’t realize how much of a war mongerer butchie was. I don’t see things going well for that family after Phil died, they had a run of great leaders. Carmine, John, and Phil ,even though he went crazy with vengeance and got himself killed. Nevertheless he was a stand up guy who demanded respect, was decisive, and knew how to flex his muscles. Butchie will run that family into the ground. They already look weak due to losing the war against the “glorified crew” Dimeo family. As for the Dimeos, I like to think Silvio comes out of his coma and makes Paulie his consiligere. Silvio for the mafia chess match and Paulie as his strong right arm. Both of those guys are seasoned veterans and were much less ambitious than Tony and Junior, and ambition seemed to lead to nothing but trouble throughout the show. Hopefully they got it running back to how Jackie ran it. Try to keep the peace, make sure everybody eats, and keep their noses out of New York and away from the five families.
