You can get toilets that have fewer bends and awful places you can only clean if you kneel in front of them and “hug” them. Some are called one-piece toilets. They also sell 1-click removable seats.

May I add a tip? I flip to Nov. or Dec. when I get a new calendar in Jan. for the upcoming year. I write in Nov. or Dec. (whichever works best) what items I need for the holidays. Napkins or tableware or gift tags-those types of things. So when I flip to the months with special holidays I can purchase what I need because by then I will have definitely forgotten what I needed, and the items are listed on my new calendar.

While I personally wouldn't do this hack myself - I have a huuuuuuge pot as well as a large roasting pan I could use - I suppose if someone really needed to do it they could first line the cooler with one of those turkey-sized oven bags? Those bags are meant to be food-safe so I guess that should work.

I have never, ever saved a home hacks video - until now. The first one I plan to use is the heavy duty broom in the showers. We have stone floors in them and I scrub them by hand with a small brush. I'm 72 and it's not always easy for me. There were a couple of others - like the over-the-door hangar for outside and that glue stuff to keep things from sliding.
@NotAFanOfHandles
@NotAFanOfHandles Жыл бұрын
Personally I wouldn't do the cooler one because I have several ginormous pots, plus a roasting pan I could use instead, but also the potential BPA/chemical leaching concerns. If you really need to use it, I would recommend first lining the cooler with a *turkey-sized oven bag* as those are food safe and will tolerate boiling water. Pop the bag into the cooler, place the corn inside the bag, then pour the boiling water into the bag. Place a couple of wire racks on top to keep the corn submerged for even cooking and you should be good to go.

Lots of great ideas here! An instant pot will also give you eggs that practically peel themselves, either fresh out of the pot or after refrigerating! Also, a denture brush is even better than a toothbrush for getting into those little crevices! The bristles are stiffer, and they have a section of longer bristles on the end. I buy them for that very purpose, because nobody in our house has dentures. 😊

Denture brushes work better than toothbrushes since they have a larger head and stiffer bristles. I also use denture tablets in vases that have "crud" left behind from flower stems or leaves. Just rinse the vase, fill it with water, toss in a denture tablet and leave it overnight. In the morning, the remaining crud will easily rinse out.

Aging-in-Place 'Hack': If you have mobility issues, you must hate having to use base cabinets for storage, especially the sink base cabinet. Instead of using a variety of extendable shelves, stacking bins, or shelf risers, look into installing extension shelves. They come in a variety of widths and depths, to work with the unique volume configurations of the space in sink base cabinets. Some include a second tier shelf narrow enough to thread the space between pipes and the cabinet side. They can be mirrored on each side of the base cabinet, then a long thin bin can be placed between the two for additional storage. NO MORE KNEELING TO REACH THE BACK OF THE BASE CABINET!

I will be grabbing an outdoor broom like the one you show for cleaning the shower floor! We had our shower (actually, it was the entire master bathroom) remodeled. The shower from when the house was built was a boxy yellow color (late 1960s-early 1970) was hideous, so the contractors tore it out. They were able to remove this tiny corner cubby, which allowed us a larger shower with thin type shower wall pieces going over the wet room drywall & the shower floor with heavy water barrier & base with grouted tile. The whole bathroom is beautiful, esp the extra roomy shower! It is becoming more & more difficult for me to get down on all fours to scrub the tile. I’ll be buying a detergent fillable dish scrubber for the shower walls & the bathtubs. Thanks for all the cleaning hacks, but esp so for the ones above. I’m mid-50ish, heavy on the -ish. Any cleaning hack that makes life easier is worth it.

I do this with any linens for the holidays. My Thanksgiving and Christmas linens, potholders, tea towels, aprons, kitchen towels, etc. are all stored with the Christmas decorations so they don't take up room in my linen closet. The best part though is that I'm not tearing the linen closet apart trying to find them right before Thanksgiving dinner is served.

I never use super fresh eggs to hard boil, use older eggs (just before their expiration), they tend to peel easier (at least for me). Also rolling any citrus around on the counter softens the rind and helps produce more juice.

If you do not tear the entire foil cover on a container off, but only take off 3/4 and leave on the container you won't need the tape.

I like to use color to identify things. Red for "toxic" use only. Like for cleaning toilets or using with chemical cleaners. So I would only use red toothbrushes for "dirty" cleaning. (Red kitchen utensils for raw meat) And then, I do not use any red toothbrushes for brushing teeth.

I use dry erase markers on my fridge for grocery lists and phone numbers that I only need for a little bit. I use them on my freezer for the next weekʼs meals. When I have transferred my grocery list, I wipe off the fridge. Same with the freezer. I use a squirt of orange vinegar to make sure every bit of the previous lists are gone. I use them on the washer to threaten mayhem if the water temperature goes hotter than warm. My happily moved last roommate was bad about that.

I steam my eggs in a collapsible metal steamer tray thing. I put it in a pan of water. Once it boils I place the eggs in. Boil for 20 minutes on medium heat. Place in ice water and they peel perfectly. No shells getting stuck. Steam is the answer. I'm assuming that's what the air fryer does.

Thank you for your tips. Love the garbage bag command hook and bread bag. I fill my brush with Dawn and vinegar to scrub shower doors while my conditioner is working. I throw some Apple Cider vinegar in the bleach section of my washer when I wash blankets if anyone has dogs that use your couch blankets or sleep on the bed. I use the scrub side of Lysol scrubbing wipes for my sink for removing the dirt, grit, grime and it actually gives it a good shine too plus its antibacterial

The dry erase marker on the dryer idea is genius. I ALWAYS forget to hang certain things, and inevitably shrink and ruin most of my husband’s shirts. 😰
@TheWendy321

We have a separate laundry basket for all shirts that have to hang dry. That way the entire load is stuff that doesn't go in the dryer. Much easier than trying to remember to hang one or two things. The dry erase marker looks like it might work well but I really like keeping those items separate.

Thanks for the hacks, Kallie. Here are a couple for you. Most children's toys can be washed in either the dishwasher or the washing machine. For example, I used to throw my son's Lego pieces in a mesh laundry bag and spread it out on the top rack of the dishwasher. No scrubbing. And, for "sealing" drafty windows and glass doors, spray down the glass with water and then press on a sheet of bubble wrap large enough to cover the glass. Use more sheets as needed to cover glass entirely and just respray the glass when the bubble wrap starts peeling off. This prevents drafts and keeps the house much warmer and cheaper to heat. Looking forward to your next hack video. Thank you! ~ Lisa

All my "do not dry" items go in wash bags, which is where they mostly go anyway because I don't want them rubbing/stretching among the general population in the wash. I do also put all socks in wash bags for loss-prevention, but obviously you can tell which bag that is during transfer and go ahead and throw that one in to dry.

I do wash bags for a lot of my hang-to-dry shirts, too. I have a lot of identical ankle socks (the ones that come in a pack of six pairs or more) so I got a pack of big safety pins and I pin them together when I take them off. They're already paired when they come out of the dryer and each pair wears out at roughly the same rate. (I've tried the bag for socks but some of them would always still be slightly damp and then I'd have to put them back in.)

I use a vegetable brush for my toilet. The regular toilet brush doesn't get under the rim very well. I use a magic eraser on my tub after using the dish brush like you have. It takes off more than the brush does. It surprised me at how much more dirt it took off. I use baking soda in the washer with the detergent and vinegar in the rinse cycle. Clothing has minimal static coming out of the dryer. Enjoyed the tips!
