I came across your channel the day before yesterday, & I have not stopped watching since. What an absolute pleasure to watch you both are! I lost my mum suddenly in January, it’s just my 76 year old Dad & I now & I have 2 chronic genetic disabilities. I prefer to home cook for us when I’m able (preferably batch cook), but we were thinking of investing in an air fryer until the adaptions at my bungalow get finished, to save us some money, & that’s how I found you both! You cook exactly how my lovely mum used to cook too, it’s bringing back so many memories of childhood, playing with the odds & ends of pastry that were always made into little jam tarts lol, while she made her Cornish pasties (& yes, she made them with shortcrust too!) Just wanted so say thank you. It’s really been a delight watching you both! Pay no mind to any miserable so & so’s being rude, that’s KZbin for you. Off to watch more! Take care guys xx

No carrots in a Cornish Pasty. Beef skirt, (not mince)potato, swede, onion, plenty of salt and pepper. Do not precook the filling. Ginsters are an insult to the Cornish Pasty, they are not a proper Cornish pasty.

Fantastic! Northern Michigan is known for its pasties brought over by Cornish miners in the 1840s.

You are so right . I live in northern Wisconsin. Not far from the Niagra/Iron Mountain border. The U.P. of Michigan is as close to Heaven as possible. It's not just the territory, wildlife.., but mostly the people. Maybe God himself picked who got to live there. As anywhere some are not so nice. Use your instincts, and good sense. I believe everything was made by God. If Northern Wisconsin and the U.P. is second best !!! I'm really looking forward to seeing that!!!

Looks amazing! I do love a Ginsters, but prefer yours anyday! Last time I went to Cornwall, a little old dear made a dozen pasties every day and sold them from her kitchen for pin money. the Devon pasty has a top-crimp and is oval in shape, whereas the Cornish pasty is semi-circular and side-crimped along the curve.
@fw66672 жыл бұрын
I come from a long line of Cornish families Cornish pasties where traditionally made with shortcrust pastry. The correct filllling for a Cornish pasty is sliced potato sliced skirt of beef sliced swede, onion salt and pepper. The pastry is bought together on the side with a rope crimp. The pasty is eaten by holding the crimp then when you have finished the shortcrust pastry and filling the crimp which by then is dirty is thrown away. I noticed when you were collecting the scraps of puff pastry the scraps were rolled together thus losing all the layers. It would have been better had you laid the layers on top of each other.

I enjoyed the video. It's good to see real people having real experiences. Just a few observations: All the strange sounding ingredients in the Ginsters Pasty would also be in shop bought pastry, Oxo and Maggi seasoning. A Cornish pasty is made with raw ingredients cooked inside the pastry shell. This means it needs to be cooked long enough for meat and veg to cook and this gives a much darker pastry, which would fit my person taste much better. Cornish pasties don't have a lot of meat and don't have gravy. There was nothing wrong with your pasties but you weren't really trying to copy the Ginsters version, so the comparison doesn't make a lot of sense. For the best results, the pastry needs to be kept as cold as possible before it goes into the oven - warm filling doesn't help. To stick the pastry together, try using water rather than egg - I find it works better. Once you've crimped the seam, put the pasty in the fridge and let the seam firm up before egg washing and putting in the oven. I think yours opened partly because the "glue" hadn't set. Keeping the seam on top is a good idea it took me a long time to figure out. Top seams tend to still keep the filling in even when they burst!

That was really good. 👍Of course the next step might be; why not try the CrimpIt. OK different shape, but you'd have to try it in the AirFryer too I think. 🤔 Now we are almost in the jaws of Christmas you have to wonder how would it be with puff pastry stuffed with mincemeat in the AirFryer, for your very own spin on CrimpIt Christmas Mince Pies. Or is that Crimpmas Mince Pies?😀 I would try it all myself, but not quite made the decision to go with an AirFryer, and they are a bit scarce right now anyway.🤨 Be well.😉

My children had homemade everything cheese onion and potato pasties,quiches.meat pies.What you have just demonstrated is why I hate mass produced muck full of vile chemicals. Well done you show it does not take that long to make your own,much cheaper and far superior quality chemical free.Make the time it’s worth it.If you put the filling in a sieve to just drain off the excess liquid .
