Happy Memories of Butlins Holidays if I had a time machine would love to go back to Clacton 🤗🍨
@Andy-Robus3 жыл бұрын
this was the holidays I grew up with Butlins Clacton-on-Sea in the 70's - Gaiety theatre and the crazy horse saloon and the train going around the camp, chalets, 7am music through the tannoy speakers, soldiers on the buildings where the catering building were, helter skelter with the brown door mats penny machines , glass where people were swimming, Atom ant club , Redcoats boating lakes and pedalo's , and the little red keyring photo things you held up to the lights - loved going to Butlins every year. - always seemed to be brilliant sunshine
@stephenbradley28213 жыл бұрын
I agree with you I wacky to go every year in the 60s and 70s the heyday of camp holidays. Everything you wanted to do you could do I particularly liked Clacton because it had the separate children's amusement Park great memories. Roller skating and lspent most days on the boating lake. Butlind had it all even outside the dinning rooms you could have fun before and after meals in the playback with the stagecoach and fire engine also the high climbing frame . I also enjoyed dressing g up and chasing captain blood and throwing him into the outdoor swimming pool. Such fond memories ashame Clacton is no more .one last thing let's not forget the redcoats who always came up trumps . RIP Clacton gone but not forgotten.

It was the summer of 66 the Saturday we arrived England won the World Cup, later that night I met a most lovely Sheffield lass called Lynne, she was engaged so nothing physical occurred but by the end of the week I was in love with this girl of course never told her that would have been unfair. Often wondered how life turned out for her and hope it has been wonderful.

No photo of the big fibreglass giant you could see tower over you as you arived at the front gate?😊 I've lived in Clacton all my life, and it has sadly gone down hill. All the life long locals say, "when Butlins went, Clacton went down hill and has got gradually worse ever since" Great memories of better times.

Fantastic video. My earliest memories of Clacton are visiting my grandparents who lived there and arriving towards the beach by Butlins and seeing the big wheel appear over the trees as we passed 🎡

Went there in '82 and '83 great memories, and some of the tunes in the charts evoke memories too. I remember the arcade which was just outside the main gate and this motorised ol' hillbilly grannie in a rocking chair advertising a shooting gallery by saying "come on down to the shootin' gallery... happy shootin' ".

I went there once, I think 1975. We normally went to Bognor, a bit warmer. We went off season to save money. I saw the biggest waves of my life watching from the upstairs lounge. I was surprised to see people walking dogs while the house high waves crashed down on the promenade around them. Despite the wind and overcast weather, we did have some dry days. I had the best kite flying experience of my life on a that piece of open ground, like a park between the camp buildings and the sea shore. The sea breeze was fantastic for kite flying!

I forgot to say, if you do not know, take a look at the 1964 film "Every day's a Holiday". It was a sort of rip off of "Summer Holiday", but it was filmed in Butlins Clacton. It was filmed by a then unknown cinematographer called Nick Roeg, later to become a major figure in the British film industry.

I won 1st place in the fancy dress competition in 1974..i was 6 years old .. i won a £2:00 Butlins Cheque .. which i could spend in the Butlins shops... i bought a Dartboard and some other bits for my £2:00..... was there a Beaver Club as well? I also remember my Mum dropping me off to see a kids show with Clarence the Rabbit.. if i'm not mistaken. Mum and my Aunt were off partying while i was at the show...except i didn't follow all the other kids off to where they were supposed to go afterwards..... got myself lost. Ended up in lost property until Mum came to collect me .....remember my first go on a trampoline ....as well as the Giant slot car track/ Scalextric . Remembered the what felt like forever Journey to clacton in Grandads Car from Croydon. Great times ..now sadly lost to time

@@johndaarteest No problem! Funny enough I'm in Walton now that's about 8 miles from Clacton. I went to a caravan park in Clacton back in the 80's & man it was rough. Multiple fights every night, husband fighting wives, kids causing havoc, drunkenness, antisocial behavior.... It was awful! They might have cleaned the ones that remained up but from reading the reviews on Trippy of the main one here in Walton, they don't look that great! 😕
