It's great to see old footage of Butlins back in the day, but also very sad at the same time. Back then as a kid growing was pure innocent fun. I would go back to the 70's tomorrow.

Uncle Wally's train....Fantastic loving memories!! We holidayed at Butlins Filey from 1974 to 79. Some of the happiest days of my life!!

Thank you so much for posting this wonderful film clip of the much loved and missed camp at Filey. We spent many happy holidays there and went there twice in 1977. The film clip puts paid to the naive excuse that the greedy bosses used to close the camp of falling visitor numbers. In the film clip we see large crowds and cues everywhere which was always the case every time I went there.

Went to Butlin's Filey with my parents in the late '70's. I used to go (every night of the holiday) to the Empire Theatre and see a different player each night. I also remember that the Indoor Swimming Pool had windows under the water which looked into the restaurant below... you could watch the swimmers as they dived underwater. Went to filey as a kid with my parents 1975, we had a great time there, still have fond memories of people we met... loved the cable car. Good memory of my first girl friend sherylyne that I met there from Sheffield, good days. Eddy.

Sad to see but also brings back wonderful memories, this was Butlins way before it turned into the money grabbing commercial machine it is is today, back then you could go out in the morning with a few pence in your pocket and when that was spent rest of day on all the included attractions, indoor pool, outdoor pool, indoor funfair, outdoor funfair, monorail, chairlift, games room, multiple arcades, etc etc, I thought it was paradise as a child, sad to see many long gone and what camps remain have turned into, used to be an amazing, low cost family holiday, I heard recently two weeks in August for a family would cost £4500, absolutely ludicrous, thanks for posting, nostalgic memories of better days.

I worked on at the camp in Filey during 1974 and 1975. There's a clip midway through the video of the staff accommodation. Many many happy memories from Filey.

You didn't happen to know a bloke called Eddie who worked in the kitchens in 1975, he only had the 1 season there in 1975, i dont know his last name unfortunately, my wife's friend is trying to locate him as its her biological dad, she was 15 months when he left

Filey was the only camp I didn't go to. The others I went many times in the 70s. That was a real holiday back then. Magical for parents and children.

I remember going there in the early 70s, entered a fancy dress costume as a footballer, lol....also got my first swimming certificate, 10 yards with aid of instructor. I still remember the instructor who was blonde and first name was Dawn. I am sure I still have some of the photos in the little red plastic view finders which doubled up as a key ring....Thanks for the upload :)

I find it strange that have holidays can thrive and yet the Butlins camp apparently couldn't...sad to see this place left to rot away...with better investment it would still be there today.

Although we did not go there; we passed the site once in October 1981 when we were away up from there in Scarborough at the time. I know we saw the old rail station; already then abandoned alas; but I guess the site then would have been open so too? A deep shame of course that a few years later the site would close. Although of course too I guess at the time no-one was to know that as such? Thank you anyway!
