Are you ready to RUMBLE?
Okay, maybe not that kind of duel. In this video, I do a side by side comparison of the Bosch Universal Mixer and the Milky Butter Churn to see which is more efficient at making butter. Watch to see who will win!

Very interesting! I have a kitchen aid, bosch mixer and vitamix blender. I honestly don't love any of those. I use my vitamix because I find it the fastest and easiest to clean but I've been eyeing an electric churn similar to the gem dandy. I'm not sure if I like that the paddles run the other direction in the milky butter churn. The buttermilk clean out was neat but I'm not sure that it seems worth it to me. Love the comparison so I could form an opinion!

Glad this helped you!!! Within the past couple of days I also discovered culturing the cream makes it go even faster. Leave it out (raw cream) overnight and it whips up so much faster!

@@called_to_homestead Interesting! I've heard about this but always worried the taste would be off (kind of like that parmesan cheesy smell the butter gets if it sits on the counter for too long is my fear). How do you like the cultured taste? Can you bake with it without an off flavor?

I totally get what you are describing and I was worried about this too. It does smell like that before turning it into butter but it only enhances the butter flavor in a good way!! I don’t know how but the butter tastes even better 😅

@@called_to_homestead Awesome, how can you pass up an enhanced butter flavor and time saved churning! Our next lactation should start the beginning of May! I will be adding this to my try list!

I use a Cuisinart food processor. It makes short work.

Great video. Thanks for the review. I find that my Vitamix works best. I have a Bosch as well. The Vitamix will make butter in 3-5 mins depending on the temp of the cream 68 degrees works best. The colder the cream is the longer it will take. If the cream was around 50 it would take close to 20 min to make butter. I was going to try the Bosch this morning but after watching the video I didn't want to spend the time. However it is good to know incase I need to use my mixer for some reason in the future.

I need to update this video- I found that culturing the cream before churning makes it SO much faster (and tastes amazing!). I’ve tried my blender (ninja) and I just really don’t care for how it makes the butter, it’s too easy (IMO) to over churn. But glad you have something that works great for you!

@@called_to_homestead I am going to have to try the culturing method. Thanks for the tip. The vitamix has a super slow speed on manual. I can see how the ninja would over churn in a blink of the eye. It is so easy to over churn.

Yes! Good to know about the vitamix, makes more sense if it has a slower speed! Such a bummer when it gets over churned!

Couple questions- 1. What sieve and measuring cup are you using when you drain the Bosch? 2. How are you washing the butter? Which attachments and how long and number of washes? 3. At the end, you say in the milky you could do salt and herbs etc - seems you could also do that in the Bosch?

Great questions! 1. Just a plain ol stainless sieve and a pampered chef measuring cup but really any vessel to hold the buttermilk will work. 2. I wash the butter by hand under cold water. Knead it like play-doh

3. Yes totally could or simply by hand! Not worth the pricy butter churn just for that!

Any thoughts on the texture/taste differences given the milky seems like it would be much more gentle on the fat globules. Also overall time after separately washing with the Bosch? Thanks:)

No difference at all :) I have also learned since this video that setting the cream out to warm up just a bit can make it go faster as well! Washing the buttermilk out by hand doesn’t take much time at all so I didn’t include it. Maybe a couple minutes for a pound of butter

A food processor works in 30 seconds, depending on your cream

Oh I’ve tried that! This works MUCH better for our volume of cream ❤️. But it is a great option!

With gallons of cream, that wouldn’t save us much time at all 😅 but yes that works for small amounts! Since making this video I’ve found ways to cut the time too- I’ll have to make an updated video :)
