Ali needs to show a bit more respect for people and property. The trouble is, that looks like a historic monument. Not everything is there for Ali's personal pleasure, and it certainly isn't a bike or skate park. I think Ali, and anybody else pulling stunts like this, ought to realise, everything they practice on is owned by someone. They selfishly treat things like their own personal playground and get annoyed when people object. Of course, if someone were to ride around on Ali's property without permission, rides bikes through his garden or bunnyhops onto his car, he'd call the police too.

I remember as a kid (when Libor Karas and Hans Rey were competing), I was at a park hopping up tree stumps (on a GT) to some old abandoned railroad ties. A guy, probably in his 60s drives up and says, "Those aren't for you to play with, get off or I'm going to call the cops when I get home (since mobile phones weren't a big thing yet). An hour later, cop shows up who happened to be the school resource officer, I think I'm in trouble and he goes "Do some of those cool tricks! What is that?" Ultimately, the cop goes, "I have a bicycle club for kids at the rec center, you should join and teach us how to do this stuff..." Lo and behold, I was teaching intercity kids to enjoy bikes, how to bunnyhop, as opposed to joining gangs (which was a huge issue where I grew up). I think my "90s Karen" didn't realize he'd grow the sport he called the cops on.

Like you, I think of myself as a realist. Not a pessimist or an optimistic. I remember when in school the teacher brought a glass with water inside at the half way point. She asked all the students if they thought the glass was half full or half empty. Of course she was going to tell the students who said that the glass was half full that they were optimistic and the students who said the glass was half empty were pessimistic. When it was my turn to answer I said that if you had a glass that was full and you poured out half the water then you had a glass that was half empty. If you had a glass that was empty and you filled the glass half way then the glass was half full. She accused me of ruining the lesson. I told her that I was just trying to be realistic.

I’d find something steel, like an old hardtail (maybe an On One but ideally shorter chainstays)…a rigid fork, GOOD brakes (disc ideally) and a higher bar. I’d have a few gears on it but with a smaller front chainring with a bash…the more bias towards trials the smaller I’d go), stick a long seatpost that and be slammed (or close to) for trials and raised high enough to be comfortable for distances. That way you’d have a nice strong but reliable bike that should cover a decent distance easily but still let you get up a few walls too.

And we just said please go ahead a kept riding for a while until moving on to next spot. Unless we damage anything or trespassing the police only admire our riding.
