What a great idea! I love that you already have an idea for the block. Have fun making the quilt!

I enjoy these types of blocks that don't have to be over thought. The border really made a difference. I'm always surprised how a block or a tablerunner change with the additional color of a border or binding.

Borders/bindings are everything! Thanks for watching Carol!

Very inventive, I could see sewing the sides together first and putting a body piece up the center...not to tough a tweek, if one likes the body too.

@@mostlyquilts1386 thanks for reply and also for subscribing to my channel. It's pretty eclectic! I was hoping to do more travel content, but the pandemic stopped that. I have been quilting since 2015, and have got into other crafts while having nothing better to do over the last year.

If you split up the top wings and made separate blocks and reduce the wing fabric by one inch (ratio background to body 5:4) you could have the wings float on the background. Same with the smaller part of the body (3 inch background to 2.5 inch body). It's more cutting but all the points would float and you wouldn't have to cut them off. One would align the smaller body square onto one corner of the larger background square and sew diagonally across the smaller body square. You would need twice as much fabric but the effect would be better and you would have more room to maneuver the pieces. Also, with so many seams, pressing them open would help to get your points in the right place. This is a great idea and one that could be done with leftovers from layer cakes and charm squares.

May I suggest that when giving block piece measurements, it helps to place text on the image of your video as you mention it. A lot of us like to screenshot these instructions, and it also would crystallize what you're saying. Beautiful block, will definitely try!

If you click on "cc" under the video, the text will show up. That goes for pretty much all videos. For those with different languages, sometimes you can get the translations when clicking on settings and you are able to click on the language you prefer. All the best!

Ohhh, the dreaded UFO’s. I wouldn’t know anything about those, just kidding.

could i make the blocks that are smaller 3" cut blocks so that when you sew the half square triangles it will then get trimmed up to match the 2.5" blocks? Cute block
@mostlyquilts13863 жыл бұрын
Yes you can! I actually typically cut a little bigger and then trim down. For this video I did not, which is why my squares were a bit off. Good question!

If you cut those last two blocks at 2 inches instead of 2 1/2 they would line up bettter. But nice idea and good to know you don’t pretend to be perfect. I would defiantly try this

I’ve made two of these blocks, they keep turning out super crooked even though I’m lining up all of my seams. Any tips on what I might be doing wrong?
@mostlyquilts13863 жыл бұрын
That must be very frustrating! It could be in your ironing. When you’re ironing make sure you’re pressing and not moving the iron back and forth. Also, sew slowly over the parts where the seams come together, that’s where the fourth inch can sometimes be hard to maintain. Good luck!
@cassowary-love3 жыл бұрын
@@mostlyquilts1386 thank you for the response! It has been super frustrating, I’m going to try again in a bit though. I may try making my squares bigger to see if that helps. This is my first time doing something more intricate, the only other quilt I made was just squares with no real pattern
