I think that the combination of his lifestyle and fame changes after the success of the show, coupled with the resoundingly negative reaction to many details about the story's finale, put a serious damper on his motivation. He went from someone who had a really good series with an ending still to finish to someone who now has to match or exceed the quality of something that was once beloved but then came to be rejected. That's gotta be tough but he's got no one to blame but himself.
