My mother in law kept them as the clean up crew for her breeding parakeets, canaries, and they did an EXCELLENT job as the clean up crew! Omg. I want them so much!!!

This purpose is the reason I came to look at this video; I read that they're very useful to have running around the bottom of aviaries (with other birds they get along with) to consume any leftover feed.

You could boil the eggs and peel them and then pickle them for horderves. You could also sell the tiny eggs as food for young egg eating snakes that people keep as pets.

The buttons you shipped me just hatched! (12 out of 18). This video came in perfect timing. Can't wait to see what birds you got next. I'll be watching for the video tomorrow!

Your set up looks like such a delightful home for your quail! I have 3 male coturnix quail who I keep in large dog cages and let them play outside every so often. Hopefully if I never find them home I can make a set up similar to yours.

Nice video! What plants do you have growing in the coop, or are they just random greens? Also anyone else, if you have any plants that are safe for quail or aren't likely to get too eaten (all my birds finches + quail go nuts for spider plant) then I'd love to hear!

I would put plastic on the run during winter so they can get sunlight and run around. They also get grit from the ground that helps them with their eggs

The fact that the eggs are tiny makes them wonderful for eating I make many different dishes with them I prefer them in my meat balls because other eggs are too big and I like smaller meatballs

Do you clip your button quail wings? I noticed your coops are pretty short. I was going to build a walk-in run (with short shelter coop inside) that is 6‘ x 9‘. Would you recommend clipping their wings so they don’t try to fly and hurt themselves or is 6’ enough height?
@cozycows Жыл бұрын
6’ is fine!! Some folks say 4+ is fine, I’d say 6+ to be safe.

OMG why des everyone neglect to supplement their poultry with calcium- where do people think they get it from to make the eggs? If you don't fed them enough they'll deplete their own calcium stores.

Hi I’m new in your channel but I love the way you take care of your animals I just have 24 eggs of quails supposed to hatch today but I just got some button eggs to hatch can you tell me how you can tell the sex of the button quails ? Thank you
@morgannaolsen25954 жыл бұрын
The easiest way to tell the sex of buttons is by their color
@mellewedin822111 ай бұрын
So there are cheaper and different ways of getting calcium into birds and cuddle bone bought in bulk is better for them, crushing up their shells, or even shells of chixken eggs you eat. Or friends eat. Its better to give them back their shells if your eating the eggs. Which i am sure some ppl do have them just for the egg source. I know i would love them. Quail eggs have 3 times the amount of protein than a chicken and yes all of that is packed inside their tiny little eggs

What is the easiest way to catch them. We have 3 inside and every time we clean the habitat they get out. I’m scared of hurting them because they are so small. We jumbo quail outside and they are easy to handle.

The Pampered hen not for cot or button you might need a bird permit but you only need a permit for qua if they are a native wild breed and if you are planning on letting them go or you own more than 6

@@rachelflint1550 Can they be kept outside in Irish weather ?
@rachelflint15503 жыл бұрын
@@finndrennan541 I don't know a lot about Irish weather, but if your coop will keep them dry and they have an enclosed hutch area to get out of the wind, they should be very happy down to 30F (-1.1C). We have not had a problem here in the piedmont of North Carolina, although it doesn't get much colder than the aforementioned temps. :)
@finndrennan5413 жыл бұрын
@@rachelflint1550 Usually it can rain a lot and if can be windy but not all year. In the colder months it can get down to about 2 or 3 degrees Celsius and in warm months around 20 and above degrees Celsius. In Ireland the weather always changes.
