Well Al was one of the wildest Jazz Vocalists in the last 40 years. There was a version that he did of this song with Joe Sample , Marcus Miller!

Check out this song performed by him in 1994, arranged by the magnificent Marcus Miller, Bass player and composer. Absolutely great!!! Btw, it´s brazilian classic... and yes, there is a LOT of improv happening. And yes, I miss Al Jearreau... such a skilled, inspired and humble human.

I discovered you on your reaction to Lara Fabian’s « je suis malade ». Thanks for your technicals explanations and sincere feelings. Both of this two performers (rip) were Genius of jazz singing and playing piano, but Michel Petrucciani was really a giant of jazz piano, considering his physical handicap and orphelin disease who made him pass off at only 37 in 1999. I hope you will enjoy too his performance in the French same tv show Taratata with the duet with French singer Liane Folly on « Stormy weather ». Thanks and congratulations. (Sorry for my English… as I ´m French)

Was a big fan of Al Jarreau's extraordinary talent & enjoyed your analysis but i would encourage you to delve a lot deeper into Michel Petrucciani's genius... unfortunately he passed away in 1999 at age 37..he also suffered from osteogenesis imperfecta (a genetic disease that makes ones bones brittle) which currently is a lot more treatable with our newer techniques in medicine & bone therapy.....however Michel overcame all of this to become one of the great jazz pianists of all time...In that rarified air with Oscar Peterson...his talent which we are now lucky to witness on you-tube cannot simply be described..it must be seen & heard...true genius...

Hi Jess, as I said in the live, this track is exhausting, it doesn't give you a second to breathe, it goes on, goes on, goes on, goes on until the end with a devilish rhythm. As I said, and I intend to repeat until I no longer consider it so, you are the best at analyzing singers and songs. If I ever stop saying it, please ask me if I have forgotten or if I have found perfection elsewhere.... Huge hug, Jess, you've earned it!

thank you Francisco! Yes, this music can be quite overwhelming because there is so much to take in. And some people can't understand/absorb it all, which is perfectly fine! You're always so sweet with your words and I appreciate all of your input ☺️

This is immediately going on my song list! Absolutely fantastic! I saw Al Just a year before he passed and he could still easily bring it home. I gotta wonder if you've checked out his cover of Take 5? Look for the 1976 live version if you don't already know it. Best wishes from New Orleans!

Legends! They've departed, but their legend grows. I just watched a video of Gary Valenciano, Katrina Velarde's mentor, doing a cover of Spain. Inspired by his muse Al Jarreau. Incredible I tell ya. Incredible

Thank you so much for this. This is one of my favorite performances of all time, and you've revealed and illuminated things about the performance that make it even more enjoyable. I commend you on your approach of being informative, educational, and keeping it real - there's a lot of reactions that are a bit over the top - yours is spot on and 100% professional.

Please check out Chloe Bailey's performances of her rendition of Feeling Good by Nina Simone! They are so good and as an opera singer, I think you would really appreciate the many ranges of her voice. The first performance was on ABC and the second one was on GMA
