I had a boat that had lots of leaks (port lights, winches, cleats, pulley tracks, vents, life line stanchions). I rebeaded all the deck hardware with butyl tape. It worked great, I have had no leaks.

What size would you recommend for a marine bomar hatch?

It's just very clean... I want to put a hatch on my van roof, if I use Butyl and trim do I still need to caulk?
@davidbrunt11545 жыл бұрын
You shouldn't need to use any caulk. Just make sure that you have the butyl tape all around the vent.

@@davidbrunt1154 Just under the vent lip right? Not over? I'm looking to avoid screws and go with something that allows me to bite down on the sheet metal.

Hopefully I'll find it in the UK before I take to the canals and hide from Boris Johnson and his goons...

I re-installed my cabin windows with expensive (!!!) 3M 4200 and they leaked. Cold morning, the sunlight hits the aluminum window frames and they rapidly heat up and EXPAND faster than the cold fiberglass cabin top, and the 3M adhesive bond breaks.. I now have a water leak when it rains. Just like he described at the end of the video. (!!). I will be re--bedding with butyl tape.

Having had a leak you need to treat the core around the hole before reinstalling. Use a shortened (cut off to 18mm) hex key in a drill to grind out the core under the laminate. Then Tape the hole bottom. Inject thin epoxy (preferably with a wood preserve treatment) and let it soak into the surrounding core. Drain off remnant epoxy, Then inject thickened epoxy to fill the hole. Redrill once its cured then proceed with butyl and reinsertion. If you dont do this the weakened core could cause a collapse over time.

LOL, except it interpreted "part" as "pot" and "hard" as "hot"...
