Hi Guy's, really love your video. But not only young people are doing it! a couple of months ago I bought a very cheap 32 foot sailing boat and in 2 days I'm leaving Germany to sail to New Zealand. The catch is I turned 54 today and never sailed before. It is never to late to fullfill your dreams, doesnt matter you are rich or not. You only have to do it !!!

Morning Nandji, I commented last week that it's nice to you guys traveling off the beaten path ( non touristy ) areas , " Real places " meeting up with the locals ...I think the difference between a Real place and a Touristy place ( for the most part ) is whether you, are jumping in your dingy to go see them , or they , are in their boats coming out to see you . I guess a simpler way to measure it ....Not a STARBUCKS for a thousand miles ... :-) And of course , meeting up with like-minded people as yourselves . Yosh , as one of the other commenters, poainted out , good interviewing skills ... although , I have to admit to being quite concerned about the precarious placement of that large toolbox ( over Manuel's right shoulder ) ....right up until that ( Duh ! ) moment when I clued into the realization that it's the BBQ . :-) Interesting stories from Manuel , ? , and Loui . Power to them , but I don't think I could handle that big of an ocean on that small/age of a boat . But , then , look what wonderful people that they have met up with . As always looking forward to the next one Bob from Calgary

Vietnam treats sailboats the same as commercial boats and the fees reflect this. My first time to Vietnam I called ahead and sent emails but got no replies. When I was about 15nm out I contacted the harbormaster by VHF and was told to standby. Two days later I was boarded by border patrol and they made me fill out paperwork and took my passport. I was allowed to enter the Danang harbor but a guard was posted and I was told not to leave my sailboat. Three days later they charged me almost $800, let me get off the sailboat to shower and pay the harbormaster about $30 for three nights dock fees. As a final insult the guard insisted I pay him $50 or he wouldn't let me get back on my sailboat. I was finally given back my passport and told to leave. Overall a very bad experience. Two years later I sailed to Haiphong but contacted a commercial shipping agent by email two weeks before my arrival and was charged about $400. I stayed a week, was allowed to leave my sailboat and paid no extra fees. It went quite smoothy with the help of the agent but still more difficult than most countries.

What's so surprising about crossing an ocean on a 30ft boat ???… In the early and mid 20th century a boat of this size was considered big and many vessels of this size made perfectly safe ocean crossings and even circumnavigations. Comes to mind : Eric and Susan Hiscock who made two circumnavigations and many crossings on Wanderer II, Peter Pye and his wife on Moonraker, French sailor Le Toumelin who circumnavigated solo on Kurun, French sailor Moitessier on Marie Thérèse sailed from the Indian Ocean to the West Indies (where he crashed on a reef because of lack of sleep as he was solo sailing, not because the boat was too small…) and many many others … READ THEIR BOOKS : they are invaluable lessons in boat handling. In fact a 30 ft boat is almost the ideal size for a couple. Little hassle, less money, less tiring through easier handling … I wouldn't want a boat bigger than 33 or 38 ft myself.

Corina Club, What are a couple of good locations to find lots of boats in MX?
@SailingCorina7 жыл бұрын
D Brambrink absolute best place is San Carlos Sonora Mexico because it is 5 hours South of the USA border where most Americans store their boats and drive home. There are 500 boats in a dry dock storage yard and I was told that half of them are for sale. Rows and rows of older boats. They don't advertise and that's why I didn't know until I got here. I live here on my boat in the marina. Here's a link to pictures....

Looks like fun, but my boat .. sv pretty lucky, a 1974 Coronado 30, was constantly breaking .. the supposedly completely rebuilt Atomic 4 stopped running several times before I even got 20 miles. Then I got caught in a noreaster, and the first hailstorm in 40 years to hit Hampton VA when the engine died, and four years later I sold the boat and the bad luck continue to plague her with the next guy. The follow 14 months I he would call and ask for help and I'd do what I could. I only made it about 50 miles into my voyage to cruise the world and the next guy made it a lot further but the boat was lost on Coco Beach Florida, during a hurricane. Maybe my next boat will be a bit less of a head ache. Lol

@FrothLyfeSailingNandji6 жыл бұрын
We think the best way to gain experience is by hanging out at your local yacht club when they race on weekends. Let them know your looking to get experience. Sometimes crew members don't show up or cant make it on the day, so positions become avaliable to assist with pulling ropes etc and even if they have full crew, sometimes they will get you onboard anyway. You will learn pretty quickly this way with hands on experience from experienced sailors. We got on 2 yachts at two different yacht clubs just from being there and talking to people. Other than that we learnt by watching youtube videos haha! Seriously! Hope this helps!
