A guy found this channel and reminded him of a 2010 Dodge Avenger he hooked his peepers on in an ole craigslist hoopty listing. And I ain't kiddin ya if it was on life support it would've pulled the plug itself. Bought another dodge avenger for 500 bucks to replace all the parts that went bad throughout its life. Got 240,000 miles out of her before she browned the sheets and it was the best box of feces i have ever thrown a dollar at.

Personally, the best person/ persons I've purchased a car from was an old lady that passed away and none of the family members wanted her car. This was back in 2006 I bought a 1981 oldsmobile cutlass for $1100. Still running great

As a daughter who grew up with a father that is a mechanic(professional + hobby) and specializes in purchasing and repairing beaters. This is exactly what my father has told me throughout the years, years of listening to him explain all this, all about car tools and parts. He can quickly fix any toyota, honda, and nissan models. Taught my brothers and I the same.

You missed a few important things. In many states, a yearly smog inspection is required to keep the thing registered - a check engine lite is an automatic fail. You better have the diagnostic tools and ability to fix it or it's a dead horse. Also, I would avoid Subaru - complicated and expensive to repair and not so reliable. And not all luxury cars are bad - keep in mind that at least at one time in its life, this was likely a pampered vehicle and the owner could afford to keep it in good shape. I would of course avoid anything Euro and avoid Cadillacs like the plague. But Lincolns with the 4.6 - oh, yeah, they run forever, just like the crown vics. And a rusty Lexus would be great - they also live forever.

This guy beaters. Every single one of these points are spot on. I buy beaters to fix and resell. Late 90's early 00's gm cars are junk but reliable. I swear they make great engines and transmissions solely to stuff them in the biggest pile of shit they could manufacture. 90's toyota cars will out last your grand kids. I like to do 97 or older 2.3 5 speed rangers but theyre getting rare. Im a ford guy but theres not many of them that make good beaters. 97-01 explorers are great if they have a 5.0. As stated, avoid any chrysler product. Ive never bought a vehicle from a teenager that didnt require an entire weekend of unfucking their repairs and "mods".

I would go to the south, buy a beater, and either tow it back, or drive it back. That same Tahoe in Texas will sell for a little more here, but would have zero rust on it. I have a 94 Chevy truck with 300K, that has zero rust on it. Working on it is a breeze because none of the nuts and bolts are rusted.

That's good advice. I got a suburban from Texas once doing that. Logistics are a bit tougher but if you can swing it then it's certainly worth it

Our trusty '90 Crown Vic is no longer and I have been searching for a suitable replacement. The crooks in DC took out many vehicles with cash for clunkers so today there are plastic replicas of what used to be. A majority of new vehicles are totaled in the front as wiz bang touch screens take out their drivers. It's getting more difficult each year to procure beaters as the price of scrap metal approaches that of chop meat in the grocery store.

Great video, though the environmental point at the end is a common misconception. After just a couple years of typical driving, the gas used by the car is more than what it took to create it - carbon wise. New EVs are still better on that

Driving an ole car/truck doesn't mean you have to drive a beater. I drive a 73 Buick Regal (Same Body as the Olds Cutlass and Chevy Monte Carlo) that I spent $1200 on and then fixed it up as I drove it. I have right around 8 k in now including paint and body. I've had it for 4 years and it will last me another 10, maybe more. IF I was driving beaters and did no work on but keeping them running and driving over that same 4 years I would have spent WAY more than that 8k I have in my Regal because your only driving them for 3 or more months and then getting rid of them and buying another one at $1500 per pop and then putting $500-1000 in them to get them on the road plus whatever it takes to keep them on the road. Driving beaters is cheap, but buying an old car and putting the money into it to make it a decent running solid car that you drive for the long haul is even cheaper. I;m not taking about putting 25k in a car, I'm talking putting 8-10 k into a classic car and having an above average daily driver that you can still have fun in taking it to Cars and Coffees and cruise ins or just cruising around town.

Any advice for someone looking for a "beater" off road vehicle? Most of the same stuff hold true?
@junkyardjoe1994 Жыл бұрын
My advice would be to buy one that's not been a woods truck or a trail truck yet unless it's really built, a crazy good deal or you know and trust the person selling it. You wanna do the first beatings yourself. They tend to be way more abused than the usual beaters vehicles.
