Learning how to repair my own vehicle has saved me more money than I could have ever imagined spending on repairs. I can honestly say if I didn’t do my own repairs and diagnostics I would not have been driving for about 70% of the time that I have been. It also opens the door to flipping cars, wich if you have a little patience and know what your doing can prove quite profitable for a project you work on in your garage. My advice is if you have half a brain start learning about cars, I was googling how to do an oil change when I decided to start learning, now I made $2300 parting out a totalled truck the scrap yard was gonna give me $250 for, I’ve done jobs that mechanics will charge $4k for and it’s been a life saver

Marriage truly can change your financial trajectory. Even if i love a person that’s bad with money, I wouldn’t be able to marry them till they get that together. Or just never marry them at all. Been there, done that

My first car costed my dad 5k, 04 g35. Loved that car, my current truck which I bought when I was 20 was 4k. I might sell this truck for a slight newer car around the 10k margin, but for 10k I can’t get that nice of a truck. So I was thinking of just saving and buying a sedan or coupe and keeping my 95 stepside

I honestly think it’s better to bite the bullet and buy a used car no more than 3-4 year old because it hurts at first but then you won’t have a single issue with that car for almost 10 years.

They are expensive to work on because of how often they break down. Trust me I know, I bought a 1999 Mitsubishi Montero sport with 90k miles for $2900 and I have put 3.5k in work done to it in the two years (not including maintenance) I have owned it and currently it needs another 1.5-2k in it to run in perfect mechanical shape.

4500 would get you into a 99-04 mustang gt auto about 150k miles. You won’t have to work on it much. Gas is up on it but the motor ac heat drivetrain is sound. Parts are cheap and come by the millions, probably the best motor if you don’t dog it. The auto trans is pretty good to buy used, manual trans are always a clutch problem or something. It only has 290hp so it’s not a speed demon. It’s a respectable car not a mom van. 17 mpg if you keep air filter clean and spark plugs in 25 highway mpg. Feels like a Ferrari reliable and cheap like a ford. Good for 300k my dads 4.6 has 500k+ miles.V6 is good too if it’s low miles. Problems start at 140-170k. Don’t get anything before 99 unless you want a driveshaft falling out. Also insurance is lower. Paid cash for mine honestly makes me look at new cars different. Even a new mustang is overpriced.

Buy a 1998 Lexus Ls400 I bought mine 2 years ago at 178k miles, now it has 192k, I’ve spent 200$ in repairs. This thing is super reliable, fast, really comfortable, leather seats etc. I recommend it to anyone looking for a cheap car, that’s cheap to work on, super reliable, and luxurious. The only downside is the 4.0 v8, so it’s a bit thirsty.

I bought a Subaru 2019. I’ve had it for 3 months and just spent $1000 for an alternator. The trade in value is about 14k but I owe 19k. Horrible decision!! The plan is to pay 1k per month and just deal with it! 😞

There is not a single car that is easier to replace an alternator on than a Subaru, 15 minute job. On top of that, an alternator is at most $250. You got absolutely robbed by your mechanic.

Better to buy a $3,000 car with cash than a $30,000 car that comes with seven years of $600 monthly payments. In seven years, you will have more than $50,000 in your bank account or invested in a conservative mutual fund.

Also don’t buy a 10-12k car if you are paying 4500 for one. Run the 4500 one to the ground. You are coming out of collage so you need to throw that money into retirement as soon as you get it. It’s worth way more growing from day 1 than it is a few years in

Cars do break down with time, even if they don’t have so many miles on them. You see the rotted tires? Then you can imagine the rotted belts, gaskets and so many other parts that have broken down over time. So no, picking a car is not so easy and black and white. A well maintained car with lower mileage would be a good buy.
