YES! So much of the fun in building this set is seeing how exactly the mechanism works and testing it as you go along and assemble it. Thank you for saying this, since so many of the other “Brick-tubers” I’ve watched have been focusing more on the aesthetics and keys and less on the actual build. I’ve also heard others gripe about the build being repetitive, but that’s only the case for the first part of the build for the keys. After that, you’re building the main part of the body, the different mechanism components, and the carriage. And those, to me at least, were very satisfying and not repetitive or boring at all.
@killwalker3 жыл бұрын
Ha. Lol. You want repetitive? Empire State Building..
@RicardoOliveira-nv5dr3 жыл бұрын
How hard is it to build ? For someone with no experience ?
@AlasdairGR3 жыл бұрын
@@RicardoOliveira-nv5dr Not really hard, in my own opinion. There are just a lot of repeating steps for pieces of the mechanism and the keys. But once you’ve done the slightly more tedious parts, the assembly of the mechanism and the body of the typewriter is so much fun.

Looks like a great build. One thing that would have added to it would be a cover for the keys. My Grandpa's old typewriter had a cover held by a couple latches. It looks like the forward facing studs above the top row of keys would have served that purpose. On the other hand, I doubt anyone would display the piece with the cover in place anyways.

Fun fact: the return key on Apple computers refers to the key on a typewriter to return the "carriage" back to the left after it has travelled all the way to the right.
@hxhdfjifzirstc8949 ай бұрын
The carriage return key also advances everything up, one line... and you don't need to wait until the carriage is all the way at the right margin to press it. Whenever you're done with a line is fine.

I’m halfway through my Lego typewriter build at the moment and I couldn’t be happier with the purchase. It’s my first lego purchase as an adult, with the exception of a small grave digger monster truck I built for my son. It was a bit hard to justify the $199.00 but what sold it was that my wife, who’s not into legos or anything toy/game related, approved of the purchase simply because it would display well in our home office. The green color compliments the brass decor and green succulent plants we already have on display. It’s something that guests will surely be intrigued with while they wonder around our home. Very happy

I started this build and when I was almost done stacking up the key arms I noticed some were sticking so I decided to take it apart and redo that section of the build. The key here (get it) is to not make the key arms too tight and just stack the spacers and lockers deep enough for the arms to move freely. I have no idea how long they will have this one into production but it was out of stock on the lego store so I had to get one from Amazon which was the same price. It is a mind blowing set.

I know why your center type bar is higher - we just finished bag 6 and I realized what's causing this issue. Look at page 130, the final move of step 178. If you separate the pieces a bit, meaning they shouldn't be pushed into each other all the way, maybe 1-2 mm less, then the center key rests lower. It's possible to slide the pieces without disassembling anything. The project is pure delight! We're taking our time over calm evenings and enjoy every moment. Still some way to go, just wanted to comment on this issue :)

Just finished this set and really enjoyed it. I had an issue with my carriage that i was wondering about. So as i was building it, i would obviously mess around with the keys and do some “typing” as i went to make sure the keys are moving properly and all that. The problem came when i went to add the carriage. I think since i was messing around typing before i added the carriage mechanism, it may have put the carriage on too far to the right. Like, it doesn’t sit in the middle of the page when it runs out of room and needs to be reset almost like it wasn’t centered correctly when i put it on. The result is that i push the carriage all the way to the right, and by the time i run of out of keystrokes and need to push the carriage back to the right, the carriage has only moved to the left a small amount. It’s final position before needing to be pushed back is way off center from how it should look. One thing I was wondering about is if there is any way for the carriage springs to be “reset” somehow so that I can realign it and it will finish its keystrokes with the carriage properly in the center instead of still being close to the right side. I can’t really explain it very well, but I just want the carriage to be in the center of the typewriter by the time it needs to be reset. Is there any way to “zero out” the springs to adjust the final position of the carriage?

This is a great set and all, but I have a very major complaint. I got the set when it came out, it was fun to build and worked perfectly; type on the keys and the bar in the back would slide along. After I finished building it, I put it in a glass display case to, well, display. It sat in that case, untouched, for a few months until I had some guests over. When I opened the case and started typing to show them the cool function, the bar in the back didn’t move at all. My typewriter completely stopped working even though it sat untouched in a closed display case. That’s a serious issue if you ask me, considering it’s functionality is pretty much the whole selling point. I’m honestly really disappointed.
