The first in what will be a series of shorts on shameful behavior by stampers. In this one, 10 bidders made 86 bids, to run a $20 set of stamps up to $330, because they did not know what they were bidding on.

I have also seen more rip offs and scams on ebay. Ebay does not police itself like it should. Ted you caught a first rate seller trying to rip people off, good going.

@@tedtalksstamps That’s why you don’t buy valuable stamps from eBay. It’s safer to get it from a reliable stamp store. I know they are harder to find these days. Or make sure the seller has a generous return policy. Sadly scammers are everywhere.

I have bought some great stamps at great prices from nystamps and other high volume sellers. But yes always know what you are buying. A few times they have mismarked stamps that I bought. They are always very accommodating to fix the problem.

@Ted Talks Stamps I love your channel. I inherited my father's US collection when he passed last year. It was his life's work. I never collected with him, wish I did. Trying to fill some gaps he has and make fiscally responsible purchases to increase the value of the collection for my son. No missing stamps from 1910-current day and quickly getting to the point I would need to win the lottery to fill any more gaps. I just finished all the ducks for him and am working on back of book. Channels like this have helped me a ton. Appreciate you and your love for stamps.

The old adage applies: If it looks to good to be true, it probably is. There is no way, for example, a $5,000 set of stamps will be overlooked by so many knowledgeable bidders, that it would only be bid up to $300. Other than that, it’s just a matter of reading and arming yourself with knowledge, and yes, even making bidding mistakes. I’ve made them; everybody’s made them. You just don’t want them to be $300 mistakes.

Not these. They are an official issue of the US Postal Service intended (or, at least, legal) for postal use.

There are a number of psychological factors that can come into play, to cause bidders to act against their own interests. In the end, though, it seems they will learn only through their bad experience.

I don't think they do it intentionally. All the high volume sellers run thru 1000s of sales a week. The people putting them online are not experts. When there is a issue they should make it right, and have for me. The only issue I would have with this is if they do not make it right once the mistake is made and found.

I agree. Some people argue that the buyer should recognize from the picture that these are reprints. But there are any number of reasons why I buyer wouldn’t know, and it is not up to the buyer to figure out the hidden clues that the seller is refusing to reveal.

I am an amateur stamp collector. Been at it since march 2021. By just looking at the stamps I can tell it is not 1892. I have too defend Nystamps in this setting. They did not label this as 1892 stamps unless S10x544 means something. So if bidders go haywire, how is Nystamps at fault for this sale? So saying that they are scammers is a bit unfair. I agree with Ted. It is the responsibility off the buyer to do his/hers research so that they can know what they are bidding on. Also as Ted said in one of his old videos "Stamps are not an investment, it is a hobby".

Thanks for your comments Heine. The most basic information any stamp dealer will put in a stamp listing is the identification, giving usually the description of the stamp or set, the year, and usually a catalogue number. And, in fact, all of NYStamps other stamp listings do provide the Scott Catalogue number. The only identification they made on this listing was the country. Whether or not one thinks the buyer should know better, it does not absolve the dealer of the fact that, at best, they were being disingenuous. Why would you NOT properly identify the stamps in this listing, when all of your other listings are?
@heineels3135
@heineels3135 2 жыл бұрын
@@tedtalksstamps Hi Ted. Thanks for your reply :) I have to agree that NYstamps did not identify this listing properly. But as you said NYstamps do properly identify their other listings. They list thousands of stamps. So this could be a mishap, otherwise much more of their other listings will also be very suspicious in identification. Again as you said the buyer must be careful what they bid on.
