DISCLAIMER:
Moving heavy machinery is dangerous, even a 200lb machine can fall and injure or kill you. Never do this stuff, you could die. Be careful and hire a rigging company to move machines for you.
In this video we head out to Long Island City, Queens, to buy a 40 Ton Geka Ironworker. People ask a lot about the process of finding and buying used tools, this is a typical trip to a craigslist buy. This machine is at Matt and Mikes shop, Yardratz. Check them out for motorcycle builds, and custom metalwork!

Tip for the engine crane: when unfolding it, you can just open the release valve, lift the arm and close the valve. Saves a hundred pumps to get the arm up to height

Hey thanks for the awesome video. Not sure if you knew this or not but instead of cranking or pumping the Jack all the way up on the engine lift, you can actually just grab the arm and lift it up slowly it'll stay. Give it a try. Oh by the way same thing with floor jacks you know the ones we used to jack up your car.

Hey Chris. I met you at an auction pick-up in Bohemia in May of 2018. If I remember correctly, you were picking up a surface grinder (I was picking up a Black Diamond drill grinder). I am located in Ridge on Long Island; keep an eye out for my upcoming channel "deckerbilt". Perhaps we'll run into each other again at an auction. Regarding moving machinery, I have used a popular rigger in this area and they screw up all the time. I had to tell them how to move a lathe when they were about to break mine in half by lifting it wrong. They also broke the chuck off the headstock on another lathe because they used it as a sling point. You'd think they know better. I also watched your Takisawa lathe video. Back in 1983, that lathe was the first machine tool I bought for the company that I still work for. The original color is a dark gray; the orange is their primer. The lathe has held up pretty well and I even made a lamp out of the Philippine Mahogany that its crate was made from.

@xenonram
@xenonram 4 жыл бұрын
@@jamnben278 $75k is a TON of money, even for a MB, considering it's a stripped down, no seats, no bells and whistles, van. Especially since nothing about it is MB, so don't think you're going to be getting some fancy van or anything like the high end pickup trucks. It has an anemic 188 hp/325 lb ft diesel engine. (The Dodge, GMC/Chevy, and Ford diesels are almost 3x the power and tq of that. So don't plan on loading it up or pulling a trailer. Buy a transit for ½ the price. Or buy a pickup for the same price with way better power, better capabilities, and a much nicer, more feature rich, interior. (Especially if you're not planning on working out of your van doing house calls.) There's no reason to be carrying thousands of pounds of tools and materials around in a van if you're not.
@MakeEverything
@MakeEverything 4 жыл бұрын
Andrew Delashaw it’s definitely a lot of money, but it’s a “crew” van, with passenger plates, 1 row of passenger seats and every single option available. I think base on this truck is like 45k in 2wd. The 4wd is also nice for a van considering the comparable van companies 4wd is lacking. Just my own experience tho

How on earth do you plan to lift a 40 ton machine with a 2 ton jack? Also, having trouble believing that little machine weighs 76,000 pounds. It surely puts out that much force on the hydro ram, but it doesn't weigh that much. Moreover, there's no weigh a Sprinter could hold 38 tons of cargo. Still impressive, don't get me wrong! EDIT: Keep listening- 1400 pounds. Not bad at all. Hydraulics are amazing things.
@MakeEverything
