I've had a Badger 105 for almost 20 years and it still works great wit the same needle.......It's simple to use and clean. I have two different size needles and this meets all of my needs for fine and general works, and with many different kinds of paint. Acrylic, enamel, lacquer, acrylic polyurethane. If it can be thinned and cleaned the 105 can handle it.

I have a Badger 155 Anthem and I learned all about that back lever. First time I took it apart I thought I'd never get that lever back in correctly. With use comes learning. I really love my Badger even though it has a .75 needle & nozzle. I am a model railroader and use it mostly for painting models. I'd like to get another Badger gravity feed airbrush, but can't see paying that much for another Badger. I think I may try the Harbor Freight one as it is a .3 needle gravity feed airbrush and I've heard great reviews about it. Also it's only $26.99. Instead of using bee's wax to seal the threads, try using some chapstick as it is cheaper and will seal threads just the same. That's what I use on my Anthem 155. Cheers from eastern TN

I had Badger's back in the late 80's. I had a 150 & a 100g. They are pretty decent but i could not use it after getting my first Iwata. I got an hp-bc2 with the .4mm and crown cap. The paints back then were garbage though. Not to mention i had no idea what i was doing back then

That head leak was supposed to be fixed now. They added something to the front assembly to seal it however they didn’t recall the older version so it’s hard to tell which one you have. The newer ones come with a sticker in the manual noting the changes.

I just got one of these during the sale also. Haven't used it yet but heard good things about it and the price was right. I personally like the needle chucking guide in two pieces ( like older iwata and badger) yes, it is a bigger pain in the ass to assemble but the trigger action seems to be smoother to me. I still prefer my older iwata hp-c to the hp-c plus only for this reason. Also looking for a cm-sb original for this same reason.
@theartworkshop2 жыл бұрын
Thats funny you say that, because I heard a few others saying that the trigger is smoother with this design. Some swear by the older cm-sb design too. I've used both and don't notice a difference, but I tighten my airbrush down for the most resistance anyway.
@duanemarshall94862 жыл бұрын
@@theartworkshop I really believe allot has to do with what one got used to. I got my first real airbrush in 83 when i was 14, a Iwata hp-c (still have it and use it daily). When iwata switched to the newer design the trigger action just seemed a little more sticky or clunky to me. I attributed that to the newer mechanism being attached to each other. But I also loosen my action up as much as possible, so much so that I cant use the back handle at all.

Regarding air leaks. You stated, "Sadly this is common in a lot of airbrush brands". The small percentage of brushes I have ever owned did this. In fact, Chinese made airbrushes rarely did this. If a purchased an airbrush that leaked like this, I would simply return it. It is unacceptable. My first airbrush, back in the Eighties, was a badger. I have seen to many horror stories lately to recommend them.
@theartworkshop Жыл бұрын
I agree, but it's not that big of a deal since you'd never notice it unless you tested with soapy water. These leaks a so small, but frustrating to see. Beeswax resolves it perfectly. Most Chinese airbrushes don't leak because they use a small o ring to prevent it, which I love! H&S does this too, the iwata eclipse, and some others but not all. I have a few $500+ microns and they all need a small amount of beeswax to stop it. But you are 100% right that it shouldn't happen, esp on a new airbrush.

I'm relatively new to airbrush work and started out on the cheap Amazon selections. I recently found the Patriot available for $40, so I took a chance and ordered 1. It was legit and I even sent pictures to Badger and they said it looked to be as well. Quickly ordered 2 more and 2 detail needle kits! Looking back, I might have blown a bit of money on the Amazon stuff, but having paid those dues, I can see the MAJOR difference in the speed and quality of work I can get done.

I have that brush - I don't know how it compares to an Iwata or the other high end detail brushes, but I've been happy with it so far. OTOH, I don't use a detail brush that much, so I don't know how it will stand up to heavy use. I also have a patriot 105, which, as I mention upthread, tend to break under heavy use. But replacement parts are cheap, much cheaper than the Iwata HP-C+ I recently refurbished...

Hey no matter what I do with my 105 i get speckling, it seems impossible to get rid of no matter what combination of thinning ratios, psi, and any other tricks I try. Any idea why this could be? Im mainly running lacquer acrylics through it
@theartworkshop2 жыл бұрын
could be a lot of things, but the most common is using a cheap paint not made for airbrushes. No amount of reducer will ever get a bad paint to spray well.
@shezmu242 жыл бұрын
@@theartworkshop thanks for the reply! Unfortunately I don't think this is the case I'm noticing it even with model specific paints like alclad, splash and Mr. Color. The effect is minimal when the consistency is practically water but it still feels like its speckling too much. I did a full strip of it today and noticed the part where the needle passes through the housing appears to have some type of o-ring or something that looks to have degraded a fair bit. I'm wondering if that could be the culprit?
@theartworkshop2 жыл бұрын
@@shezmu24 that's the needle packing screw which prevents paint from going into the body of the airbrush. That shouldn't cause any issues. If you have a magnifying glass or microscope, check the needle tip and the nozzle. If they are bent, broken, or cracked that'll cause it to splatter as well. Even small damage will cause an inconsistent spray.

what nozzle does it come with some how i lost mine while taking the cap off? super detail nozzle>detail nozzle>or the medium nozzle? i dont want to buy the wrong parts thanks
@theartworkshop15 күн бұрын
Your patriot 105 most likely came with the fine setup (.5), which is the standard one. You can tell this by looking at the color of the bulb at the end of the needle. If it's blue, you've got the "fine" or "detail" needle nozzle setup which is .5. You can also look at the aircap at the front. There is usually a small "F" engraved into it. Hope this helps!

Would swapping to a smaller needle help with getting finer detail? It comes with a .5mm but they have conversion kits for an "ultra fine" .3mm. I do mainly smaller models so do you think this would help?
@ste022 Жыл бұрын
The super detail 0.3mm has a very fine long taper to the needle and is designed for drawing fine "hair lines", the atomization is the same however as the 0.5mm so if you wanted a smoother spray for blends you would be better off with something else like the Renegade chrome, I would also recommend the H&S with a 0.4mm as a workhorse for miniature painting, not to put down the Badgers I love and own multiple models.
That airbrush is now 125$ on Amazon. Only $50 less than the eclipse. Tough decision.
@bomeshary75729 ай бұрын
My first experience with Airbrush is not good as the front head leaks air , I believe iwata eclipse is a better option. I bought 105 for spraying coats, primer and lures painting . Now I believe buying master airbrush , the new gaahleri airbrush or gsi 290 would be better option
