I’m an expat coming from Denmark. With a 200% tax on cars in Denmark, the car prices in Sweden are heavenly. 😊

If you buy it privately or from a dealer with used cars, you can bargain on the car. The fact that many people shop at dealerships is often due to the fact that many car dealers take your old car in exchange.

You are wrong about the insurance. It can be very different for an 18 year old and a 50 year old. My parents had to own my cars until I was 25 or so because of the high insurance cost. For example when I was 18 a BMW 325 E30 would have cost me 30.000kr/year. And also you pay more if you drive more. The lowest is usually "up to 1000 mil".

Ask for more pictures of a vehicle than already supplied on Blocket, you’re met with the most ridiculous response ever (sometimes/more often than not). “No, just come a look at it” You’ve essentially given me one picture I could have googled myself when looking for said vehicle. Absolute weapons on Blocket

Quite funny, I emigrated from the Netherlands to Sweden 5 years ago. Compared to NL cars are a lot cheaper here. So since I am expecting a baby soon I am looking around now for a car as well but I am quite positively surprised about the prices.

if you think cars are expensive in Sweden then don't even think about buying a car in Norway. Twice as expensive almost. Their government put on so much tax or whatever on the price it's unbelievable :O

Hi! If you haven't figured out how it works yet, I would suggest looking at the Migrationsverket website www.migrationsverket.se/ (you can easily change the language at the top of the website) and see if you can find the answer there or you can try calling them (monday-friday 09.00-15.00 Swedish time) and see what their rules are. Call 0771‑235 235 if you are currently in Sweden or +46 771 235 235 if you are currently outside of Sweden. (press 0 for english) I hope this helps you!

The brand stores make the majority f their money from company leasing cars. As you probobly know almost all new cars you se on the Streets in Sweden is leasing cars. Thats why the most used cars you find in brand sale shop is about 3 years old. If you have an old car about 10 years old that you want to trade in, they have contracts with small independent dealers that buy cars in bulk from them. Thats why they totaly ignore you. Sad but true.
@BeingSwenglish3 жыл бұрын
True true, everyone leases here and it's so weird, it's cheaper to buy because depreciation is so minimal! Thanks for the comment!

They don't try to sell anything here...100% true. They just don't seem to care whether you buy or not. And if it is their closing time, it does not matter that you are about to make a big purchase, you will be plainly told to hurry up.

There is insurance for people only over 25 and your history with car crashes and so on play a part in the price for insurance... Also your age and how long you had your driver's license.. Don't go to a dealership find a good older person who seems trustworthy to buy a car from and you will get one that have been in garage and taken well cared for.. Dealership don't give a shit if the car burns up a month later but someone who have been taking care of their own like a child for years don't sell it to someone who they don't believe will take care of it.. Ask over the first call if they can do anything about the price and what they are prepared to let it go for that same day and you will find that prices will be much cheaper.. You can find out about cars history on the net so do that before you call and ask if they have all info about it..

And there you have the reason people went to UK to buy cars before they excited EU.. Go to Germany and buy BMW or Mercedes and the price is ridiculously good.. I never bought a car at a dealership or had any help fixing things at home and most people i know are the same

SO much more expensive AND high mileage. It is what it is I guess. When a dealer tells you their final price, it does send a shiver down your spine (3:28)
@adamLE054012 жыл бұрын
I dont know but I would say that prices of used cars from private sellers in Sweden are not so much different comparing to the central europe right now. Your point of view is not objective because the UK has a separate car market living on it's own. The thing is you drive on the wrong side of the road. Meaning your used cars are not attractive for Europeans to buy and import as in some countries it's even illegal and imposible to register a car with the steering on the right side. Plus, the UK is a big market with high competition so yes you can get better deals. But as was said in other comments, check out the other nordic countries and you'll see that it can be much worse than in Sweden.

You've gone to the wrong dealer. You don't buy used cars from the big brand stores. Go to one who only sell used cars and you can haggle about the price, no problem.
@LGNilsson3 жыл бұрын
Just be happy you don't live in Norway or Singapore 😉 I think you're getting screwed, being a foreigner. My old man always managed to haggle the price down, sometimes by quite a lot.

Heh,, Iw never given it a thaught before but your absolutely right, in my case anyho. I have never been approached by a car seller in Sweden, when entering lets say Toyota, Volvo etc. On the contrary, I have had to walk around and try to find someone to sell me a car, but usually have been met with a somewhat "grinny" face expression like; Dont disturb me while watching Pornhub, or whatever,, 😡. 🤪😂😂😂
@Mingus83 жыл бұрын
Haha.. no swedes do not like to bargain against a seller .. and sellers here are therefore not used to it to it either. It is not in our DNA any longer and it makes us uncomfortable. There are many classic examples from when Swedes are on a charter holiday by the Mediterranean, and intrusive market sellers make it difficult for us because they have to deal with the price a long time.. while we just want to pay and leave .. :)
@fredrikdippel36643 жыл бұрын
The price and price drop in Sweden for cars is very dependent on the brand and milage. The price drop is much higher for newer cars also. I've had some newer cars and they can drop 2000 - 3000$ per year. Also you get much better price if you sell it private compared to a dealer. If you buy an older car private and sell it private then it's a much better deal and sometimes you could sell it for more than you bought it for. It all comes down to demand (potential buyers) for the specific car. The more specialized car that covers less use cases and potential buyers the harder to sell it and bigger price drop.

I would have said the “road tax” is more here. Well, will my diesel van, it was about double the U.K. price. Although I just bought a Seat Ibiza, and it’s not expensive. And the car was about the same as the U.K. price. But maybe you are buying newer cars, I wouldn’t say they are that much more expensive, from what I have bought. Yes, insurance is much easier here!! I agree with the lack of haggling. He didn’t go down with the price, but gave me a full 6 month warranty instead. I do love how stuff like this is so easy here.

What are you even talking about, you should do your homework and search car prices compared in the europe, take for example Finland, where the same car and everything costs around 60% more than in Sweden. And if you buy from Sweden transport it to Finland, register it in Finland, you are paying about 20% taxes of the Finnish same model and specs price. So think about that!
@BeingSwenglish3 жыл бұрын
Why don't you THINK before commenting, this channel (incase you hadn't noticed) is called BEINGSWENGLISH which relates to Swedish and English, therefore this video is about MY experience being ENGLISH and now living in SWEDEN. Therefore the comparison has nothing to do with other European countries besides ENGLAND AND SWEDEN. Be rude, disrespectful and impolite and you'll be blocked from commenting in future, so think about that...
