I got a call about a cheap Ferrari for sale that was abandoned in a foreclosed house over 7 years ago. The seller couldn't get it started and just wanted it gone, we went to check it out, buy it and see if it still has any life in it...

If the key does have a chip could you in theory purchase one from a Ferrari dealership that has been programmed to the Vin number of that particular Ferrari and put all the engine computers back with the matching Key and immobilizer.

I am surprised no one seems to just swap the drive train on "totaled" super cars. Like many are just "tossed" due to a bad engine, yet swap in something a little less powerful like a corvette or something and it would still be pretty awesome. I know you cant swap just any engine or transmission but there should be a few options.

Super exciting project. Andrew is terrific. He tells you the straight goods about the car history and he throws in all the spare parts from his wrecked LS360. You are the perfect guy to get this car. It was mechanically totaled for most people and a Ferrari shop wouldn't even look at it. Fun for us to follow along.

Yea super weird - even if you've never seen a ferrari before that would be the first thing you'd think when you see what looks like ground connections just dangling in the air not connected to anything. No ground is the same as unplugged or not there.

that does make sense though, having an electronic component not grounded means it's an open circuit that won't allow the electronic to turn on. Looks like you got lucky with this one

True, though you have to remember that for diagnosing this - Sam used the Ferrari certified scanner... It's not about the final step it's about getting there.

Sounds like you are getting a deal. Would love to see more on this car Would be nice to see the original immobilizer and computers mated with new keys. Also cleanup and new paint job. Engine sounds good tho just needs servicing.
