The only thing my station repurposes is gear. We send it to volunteer firefighters in the Philipines and other similar nations. Those guys fight fires in flip flops and t shirts, so send expired gear and tools is like christmas to them. These old trucks would be too expensive to maintain or ship over there.

@@t-yoonit Pretty much what I was going to say. I think Cody paid 7500 for this one. I know they can go for 1k to 10k at auction. I looked at a number of them for a tool truck build. Finding a 4x4 one will be on the top of your list. They can make great campers if done right as well.

I am restoring a 1971 SeaGrave ( 8-71 Detroit Diesel 5 speed Spicer/Dana) it runs great. Have restored the emergency Lights from new. Added Electronic Siren to supplement the Federal Q on the nose. It's my play toy for kids to enjoy. Added a small coaster Siren under Dash for them to blow when they sit in the driver's seat.

@Zoran many of them still work, they just aren't reliable enough to remain in service at this price point. Fully functional and reliable more modern units run anywhere from $30k-$200k depending on specifications and how well dressed out they are. The one Cody bought is pretty aged, not mechanically reliable, and fairly well stripped. Stuff like this occasionally gets sold to extremely rural private departments in remote areas that are private or have little to no budget. They also regularly get donated gear and equipment as well. The fire service is struggling. But a truck like this that's pretty much seen the end of it's service life, is generally only good for a private restoration project or a parade rig and that's about it. We are paid on call volunteer and thankfully have a relatively healthy budget but finding people is a huge challenge.

@Zoran My old town fire department had quit a bit of used equipment which was bought used. They opted to do this and use the money for the cost of a new truck to build a brand new fire house. The used equipment is far better suited for the area we are at rather than what the county wanted to give up. Most equipment that is decommissioned still has years of life left which most times ends up at smaller fire halls. Most times they get rid of anything that is x amount of years old. For example major cities might replace fleets every 5 to 7 years.
