@@hondayamahafan Honestly I was very surprised it turned out to be a manual as well, but I think the IDI's are not as desirable as the NBS 7.3s or the 6.0's. Either way i'm happy for you and your purchase.

My first vehicle at age 16 was a 4x4 90’ IDI with a BANKS Turbo and a 5 speed. Supercab/Longbed. Straight piped it, upped the IP six flats, insulated CAI, K&N filter, and a custom 2.5psi propane injection system. Loved that thing a whole damn lot. You certainly got a killer deal!

Sounds like an awesome rig! That's basically what I was looking for but never found one at the right price or with all the right options. This one came up at the right place and right time so I bought it. Very happy with my purchase. Those bricknose trucks are awesome. We might put a banks kit on the 87 one day! Thanks for watching!

@@hondayamahafan I highly recommend propane injection as well! It was a simple system that gave noticeable pull on steep grades or higher gears on the highway. Had to be over 5psi of boost to shoot it though, or you’d get gnarly knock

Removing the trim and putting the nicer wheels made all the difference in the world appearance wise. I just bought one of the ranch trucks from my dad a month ago. It is a 91 F250 5 speed regular cab long wheelbase 2WD and since then I have fallen in love with IDIs! They are simple, super rugged, get decent mileage and ,like you mentioned, they sound badass!

I have essentially the same truck (color and all) except it's a '92 with an after market turbo. These things aren't fast, but mine still gets amazing mileage, looks great and will go anywhere and do anything (pulled a 16K lb travel trailer over the Sierras). Best of all, I can fix everything on the truck myself, usually pretty inexpensively. If I had a new truck it would $1K-$2K to the shop for the most minor of issues, because I have no idea where to even start. Thanks for the video.

@@yaboycai9578 I have a Banks Sidewinder turbo on my truck. I don't know that the power output is all that noticeable (my Dad has the same truck without the turbo), but with the turbo and a half gallon of #1 diesel (which is essentially kerosene) per tank I can get close to 20 mpg. That's with 285K miles on the odometer. Note, it's very important to keep your air filter clean to get the best mileage.

When it came out for the 1993 model year, the 7.3L IDI turbo diesel was not given much of a boost over the non-turbo original as at the same time, Navistar was also developing its new direct-injected "Power Stroke" 7.3L turbo diesel for Ford that showed up in mid-1994; only the Power Stroke version would return for 1995.

I live in the UK but this is my favourite diesel of all time that I'll never own! I've only seen one in person in a private ambulance. I like the steel wheels, should get them banded? Be good with bigger element/s in fuel pump. Turning standard one up gives power but increases the dwell which can cause damage but a little is ok Btw diesel costs £1.62 a litre here...£6.48/US gallon ....$9-10?!!! I used to have VW TDI with 180bhp and 300ftlb torque. Similar to an idi! But 25-55mpg.

@peterjohn3180
@peterjohn3180 Жыл бұрын
@@hondayamahafan the thing to know is that ideally fuel must be injected over the same amount of time/ degrees of rotation, so bigger element/s allow you to do this. Dpuk/ diesel pump UK have some good videos with mercedes diesels with Dyno tests of different pump elements, they're inline pumps, yours has 2 elements I think but theory is the same. You can even improve MPG when driving slowly. I'd stay with standard turbo and not go to mad unless you have a spare engine to play with. Twin turbo with tubular exhaust headers?
