YES, Rustee has done over 100,000 miles. What has it cost me and what needs doing to to the car to make it tip top? Find out on the newest vid
At the start of 2021 Tim Aylen created Chargeheads to ELECTRIFY petrolheads, essentially to introduce car enthusiasts into electric cars by sharing content on modified EV's and EV conversions. An Electric Petrolhead if you like........A CHARGEHEAD!!!!
Embark on an electrifying adventure with me as I delve into the realm of EV conversions! My journey took me on a captivating exploration, visiting industry giants to uncover the perfect candidate for transformation. Amidst the array of options, I found myself drawn to the lesser-known gem, the TVR Tasmin 350i, affectionately known as the Wedge (#tvrwedgee). After meticulous evaluation, I decided to infuse this iconic beauty with electric vitality. With a TVR Griffith already igniting my passion for untamed, adrenaline-fueled rides without driver aids, the choice to electrify a TVR was a natural progression.
My 2nd project was electrifying a 1970's BSA Aerial 3 Tricycle Scooter into a fun short range deathtrap, that is #SpecialTrikee project! Partnering with my friend Vinny, we've injected new life into this classic ride, creating an electrifying experience like no other. Perfect for zipping around town on local jaunts, it's an absolute blast! Even Mrs. Chargehead affectionately dubs it my 'special scooter' - a charming nod to its origins as a humble 50cc two-stroke, now boasting a "dynamic" 250-watt motor
Introducing our latest endeavor: Rustee #RusteeTesla - the ultimate Tesla Model 3 Long Range upgrade project! Our mission? To elevate its aesthetics, enhance handling, and supercharge performance, all while retaining its unrivaled daily mileage and efficiency. How? By meticulously integrating recycled parts, we're not just making it better, but greener too. Get ready to witness the evolution of eco-conscious luxury, where sustainability meets superior driving experience
I hope to not only entertain with ChargeheadsUK Channel and the #TVRWedgee, #SpecialTrikee and #RusteeTesla builds, but also to inspire watchers to create their own greener transport.
With the help of leaders in their field like Ralph Hosier (Engineer, designer, builder of special vehicles, teacher, writer, TV presenter and trouble maker.
Ralph teaches Electric and Hybrid Vehicle Training (IMI Techsafe), builds some amazing one off projects and most of all is a top bloke!
He's the engineer behind #TVRWedgee the Electric TVR.
So let the fun begin......safely in a controlled environment using the right EV safety equipment! ;0)
Did I mention myself and Ralph have also done an EV Conversion safety video as well

I drive a 2022 MY LR and it needed two rear knuckles And two front outer front bearings replaced at 39,000 miles. I’m happy happy it was done under warranty, but a little disappointed that a £56k car needs that work done at 40k miles. I’ll probably go back to a Model 3 as it’s a nicer drive. HEVRA garages and Cleeverly are doing sterling work at realistic prices. Great videos!

Super video Tim! I'm a driving instructor using my 2019 Tesla Model 3 Long Range as a tuition car. Plus the good fortune of being based just 5 minute's drive from Cleevely EV. Shout out to Matt Cleevely. And James Coates (James & Kate on KZbin), Cleevely Mobile Service. Learner drivers' parents frequently ask me "what is the car really like?" After all, their kids must be exaggerating, right? So, I feel obliged to warn them not to sit in the driver's seat and try it out... sure enough, they want one! No advertising needed. This is a product that sells itself.

Can I just ask, isn’t a Tesla very different to drive than a cheap car that a first time driver would be able to afford ? One pedal driving and all of the automated safety features etc. wouldn’t it benefit a first time driver to learn in an older car with less features so when they end up in a Peugeot 206 or a clapped out fiesta they know how to drive it and aren’t surprised when they start rolling backwards on an incline at a junction ?
@B0BHW
@B0BHW 5 ай бұрын
@@0barrington0 Yes, you're correct. The Tesla is very different to drive than a cheap car with an internal combustion engine and manual transmission. When I commenced teaching learner drivers in the Tesla three years ago, I offered a specific lesson to 'convert' to driving an automatic ICE. Without exception this proved to be unnecessary as they quickly adapt using the brake pedal to control their ICE car 'running on' when they lift off the gas and requirement to use the brake pedal to maintain 'snail's pace' speed and hold the vehicle in position when parking. The main complaint I hear is that their parent's car in which they're practising is noisy, it's 'clunky', takes 'forever' to accelerate, doesn't stop properly without lots of braking and they have to select Park and apply Handbrake when waiting at traffic lights. As for "when they start rolling backwards on an incline at a junction"... automatic petrol and diesel cars don't do this either. Apologies, I'm not trying to be patronising, but to be clear, learner drivers taking lessons in an electric car are applying for an Automatic Full Driving Licence. They won't be driving manual transmission unless they take another driving test to do so. When I first tried an electric car back in 2015, after 45 years of driving manual and automatic transmission ICE cars... I couldn't believe my luck!
@williamarmstrong7199
@williamarmstrong7199 14 күн бұрын
@0barrington0 Passing a driving test in a Tesla or any other EV means you can only drive an automatic car. So driving a manual is not an option. Also, once you drive an EV, driving any fossil car is something you will find completely horrible.

My model 3 dual motor almost has 100k miles and main thing I had to replace was control arms, I replaced all of them in front, about $500 DIY. Not bad besides tires for 100k miles, almost looks new inside. I agree model 3 in today market is the best car for the money. My BMW’s were much more expensive to maintain. Batteries on model 3 long range made to last 500k miles, some already have almost 400k on model 3 LR. My model 3 saves me $300 a month in fuel cost compare to my bmw 335i, it’s $6 a gallon here.

Great Video Tim, I've had my M3P for almost 5 yrs now (one of the first to collect in the UK) and it's been fantastic! By far the best car I've owned and like you I plan to run it for as long as possible. Still feels and drives like new too. Taking advantage of Octopus Go/Intelligent and most charging being at home, over the last 5 yrs it's averaged out at about 2-3p a mile - which is just incredible for a car that does 0-60 in 3s!

Looks like I collected my 2019 M3LR at the same time as yours. I'm a driving instructor using it as a learner driver tuition car. The car still excites me every day and it goes without saying that learners can't believe their luck - especially those that have repeatedly failed tests before in manual transmission ICEs or been shouted at by their driving instructors for stalling at traffic lights, hill starts, moving off from roadside etc. As for Octopus charging overnight at home for only 7.5p per kWh... extraordinary! 7.5p divided by 4 = 1.9p per mile!!

@@DaleSteel I charge my 5 year old Tesla to 80% every night and the car tends to read 250 to 255 miles in the rare event I change the battery icon to miles instead of %age. In my case, more than enough range to carry out 3 or 4 two hour driving lessons a day. However, I never tend to bother with mileage range and leave the battery icon on %age. Overnight charging means the 'tank' is always full every morning. What's more, the superchargers on the Tesla Supercharging network are fast, reliable and completely trouble free to use. Buy a Tesla Model 3 or Y, especially the Long Range or Performance models and I doubt you'll ever think about 'range'. Totally awesome vehicles. My only regret is driving ICEs for so many years and worse... teaching learners to drive them!

@@antoniopalmero4063 Try driving both, for me the Tesla Model 3 may have firm suspension that I did not like. The Kia was a great EV but does charge slower and is well suited to a 50kWh charger and a 45 - 50 minute lunch/coffee stop if doing a long trip. I did not do many long trips but on the ones I did, it worked out very well, with it needing to charge when I needed to. Tesla will be a quicker charge and give access to the super charger network. If you are going on a long trip theres absolutely no reason not to charge to 100% on the day of the trip especially if that might mean you dont need to stop at all. Worth adding that LFP Battery pack Teslas (Standard range) WANT you to charge to 100% regularly. They are unaffected by charging to 100%. I went on a 950 mile round trip to the North West Of Ireland in February last year and it was effortless. We had to stop before The Model Y LR did. You get detractors saying they can do 800 miles non-stop in a diesel [and piss carefully into a Lucozade bottle?] but will then go into denial when it is pointed out to them that they are paying through the nose to be able to do this.

Great vid. What model year is it? One thing you never mentioned was potential HV battery failure. I’ve had my M3 from new for almost 5 years now. The HV battery failed at 44k miles a few months ago. Tesla replace them under warranty (up to 120k miles or 8 years - whatever is soonest). But only with a refurbished battery. Let me know if you want more details, it’s a whole story. So, I’m wondering if you’ve considered protecting yourself against an HV battery failure out of warranty. The cost of replacement is £18 - £20k and so that is a potential write off for a second hand M3. Something buyers and owners need to be aware of. My M3 is mostly charged at home with minimal use of superchargers. Give this post a thumbs up if you’re considering a second hand M3 and would like to understand more.

I would be interested to know what else you can buy for the same money - 510HP, AWD, 0-60 in under 5 seconds (and it is a big SUV), 300+ miles range. Every possible extra, cheap as chips to run, mature and reliable supercharging network, no servicing or maintenance to speak of, they are the best cars I have owned. Mainly due to needing decent true 4x4 capability and being in a remote area in the uk, are power network has drop outs especially in winter to the dismay of EV drivers at are nearest charges all but one having to disconnect to individualy charge 😂. And it’s not to uncommon for people to get trapped with there car in winter hear as well. But iraspective EV or ice or other all vehicles need mantanace like bearings springs and more and more often the heavier or abused they get. Same with tyres and brakes. 100k miles isn’t really high mileage maybe if you are use to nearly new / new. Car ice or even EV can last as long as it is well looked after for till the point the owner gives up or doesn’t care for it. I’m a firm believer the best option isn’t for everyone to buy EV,s is to own and run your car for at least 5y + and look after it and maybe learn how to do some basic maintenance tasks as well and build your knowledge of how to look after and budget for some wear items or surprise experience if possible. I’m currently looking for my next long term car and looking at BMW X5 45E witch has a fairly ok hybrid system and BMW age very well and even at high mileage the interior wear is some of the best condition I’ve seen and reliability BMW are know preforming around Toyota scoring. And I like the electric motor runs through the gearbox being up powerd and thru 4x4 system driving equal to ice or EV mode.

I'm an EV driver, I have a Kia E Niro which is epic. I also own a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV which provides the towing I need and 4x4/AWD capability. Im lucky enough to have home charging, so I'm firmly in the EV camp, but I agree that the infrastructure isn't ready yet for everyone to switch. As soon as the UK is ready, we'll be told that EVs are actually running the planet and we have to switch to the next thing (probably hydrogen).. I'm old enough to have been scammed in the great diesel scam of the early 90's: they convinced everyone to buy diesels, offered discounts, lowered the price of diesel compared to petrol, then siffed us big time!

I had a model 3 from 2020 to mid 2021, it was the worst car I've ever had, was back with tesla pretty much every month for repairs. Nothing to do with the fuel source, just the rubbish build quality. Cleevely service my Škoda enyaq too, fantastic service.

Thats a pain, what sort of repairs?

@@chargeheadsuk getting windows fixed so they closed, getting battery cooling system replaced, having 40+ lumps of sand under the paint removed and repainted, having a new bumper fitted etc etc. In the end tesla lost interest and started arguing I'd caused the faults. So I sold it 😥

ignorant people will say anything they heard from another guy or the Internet to make you not buy an ev or they come up with so many excuses that make my brain hurt. i also have driven and have own this car brands : mercedes , lexus , bmw , alfa romeo , toyota , Chevrolet, ford , dodge, Hyundai, Mitsubishi, nissan , just to name a few some of those brands have been making cars for what the past 40 , 50 , 60 , 70 , 80 , 90 years tesla has been making cars only from june 22 2012 to may 28 2024 so thats 12 years give or so , when you get in in one of those cars any car from tesla it feels like hes been doing this for the past 200 years its almost unbelievable but people that hate evs or tesla wouldn't even come close to understanding, and i know you might say well you are a fan boy or get that d***k out of your a** stop being a co***k su****er whatever you want to call it what i did was i gave it a try to electric propulsion and i am a true petrol head so i did love it ❤
