*** 🤡 UPDATE TO THIS STORY!!! 🤡*** So right before uploading this video, I went to Jabami's myfigurecollection page and it turns out that there is a really good (and I mean REALLY good) bootleg of this figure. I've spent the last hour meticulously trying to legit check her and I've come to the conclusion that unfortunately, this Jabami featured in the video is a bootleg 😭😭 Check out this imgur gallery to see comparison pics (and test out your bootleg fifth sense, answers at the bottom): imgur.com/a/NDK9UtT I went back to check the seller's past auction history and turns out they sold 4 other Jabami's boxless which should have been a warning sign. Please learn from my mistakes to avoid clowning yourself ! 😭 🤡🤡 I don't support buying bootlegs ever but I gotta admit, this is a very impressive dupe of the original figure (as you can tell from the b-roll, she looks pretty good). Sadly, I think that the majority of people wouldn't even know if they had been sent this bootleg instead of a real one. Also it seemed odd that some of the pieces had the protective plastic (like the head) but with no box. Boxless figures are nearly always second and, and imagine throwing the box but not the plastic sheets. But yea it is true that bootlegs often have more pieces to put together than the original

Not gonna lie during your closing statements, I noticed that Jabami had a leaning towards her left side and thats where I questioned it "Is the figure suppose to stand like that?". It is unfortunate that you confirmed it as a bootleg, you have my condolences. Scary that bootlegs are getting very accurate to fool us all. Better luck next time.

I see the box as a form of assurance and piece of mind that what you are getting is real. A lot of bootleggers replicate the boxes, but they always leave something out like it having a different barcode, no sticker, no company logo, etc.... so at this point of time boxes are still a great way to know that a figure is real. There are cases where people put bootlegs in authentic boxes and in those cases, it really sucks because you are left with having to compare the figure with pictures you see online and using your own judgement to gauge whether or not it's authentic. I wouldn't buy a holy grail if it didn't come in a box, but I might consider buying other figures without a box if I didn't care if I found out it was not authentic later down the line. I don't think it is weird. It is probably the same factory that made the real ones. It usually is with things like TVs where the chinese knockoffs are the exact same TV, but with the brand logo removed. (And replaced some components with cheaper ones to not waste as much money on manufactoring it)

I almost get that bootleg figure. But I changed my mind on getting it. It's too risky to buy some figs. Some of the bootlegs have good details. But yes, it's bad. Some of that "good" bootleg figure has an option of buying it with box Nad without box, with price difference. And I must say, if you bought with a box, you will receive a folded box of that figure with and you will noticed that it is a bootleg figure.

Oh no that is so incredibly disappointing :( I hope you can find a real one for a good price! I have bought a few figures boxless but I have bought many figures off this person on MFC. She always sent so many pictures to make sure I was 100% happy with the figure and she wrapped them up so well so they were safe. I've bought quite a few anime figures from ebay bidding without their boxes and I haven't come across a bootleg or damage to the figure during transport. The two sellers I buy from have very clear pictures so I can see clearly if it's a bootleg or if they're damaged and they have great reviews. I even managed to buy a dream figure of mine for super cheap that came in fantastic condition, and it even had a lot of little tiny details I was afraid of breaking during transport but didn't. (It's the Yoshiko Tsushima Gamers Numazu store figure btw, for a mere $50 🥺💞). It's really satisfying to find really good deals on figures, especially cause I'd love to expand my collection but I'm not flushed with cash, so please don't let it bring you down! 🖤

Luckily the only bootleg I ever accidentally bought was a $30 prize figure from Amazon, and I quickly realized it was fake when I saw the box so I was able to return it. It definitely looked and felt like a higher quality bootleg though, I think we've all been through it. 😅

I personally prefer to have the box but sometimes buying a figure with no box is just the more reasonable answer. One of my grail figures- The Mirai Kuriyama figure by Kyoto Ani goes for a pretty penny but I was able to snag one for a decent price with no box. Would I have preferred the box.....yes. But the only reason why I like the boxes is for transportation, possible resell value, and you can always tell a bootleg by the box. Even though she had a lot of jutting and fragile parts she came in one piece and I do not regret her in the slightest. For this figure I personally would not have gambled because I know the bootleg looks insanely good and just like the original so even tho it was a good price I don't think I could've taken the plunge

I am so sorry you had to go through this! I only have bought 2 figures without boxes in my collection one off buyee as well and thankfully both experiences were excellent. I do still prefer boxed figures because of collectors value but an example of the one off buyee is the Queen of hearts figure by Myethos which I managed to snag for 18,000 yen from a very reputable seller. She came in excellent condition, was 100% legitimate, and even included a display case to make up for the lack of box. Needless to say I hope this experience wont keep you from buying boxless in the future! There are some fantastic deals on boxless figures and, while I also do prefer to have the boxes, sometimes the deals are worth it.

Ouch, I was wondering if she was a bootleg because she was leaning a bit to the left and most boxless figures on Yahoo Japan Auctions are bootlegs. Onto the thoughts of buying boxless figures and throwing away figure boxes: I personally trash my prize figures and Pop up Parade boxes since the figures still retain their value even without their boxes. I would NEVER throw away my scales or nendoroids boxes, though. I’ve actually bought a few scale figures without their boxes, since the prices were heavily discounted. They arrived safe and were authentic. I think people freak out over boxes way too much. I GUARANTEE that even without the boxes, a lot of people would STILL be willing to buy certain hard to find figures for a lot of money. There’s always a market and customers!

I agree but each collector has their own preference of buying figures with or without box and I think most want to be safe and go with boxed ones. In my case I don't throw prize figure boxes I fold them and only discard the inner carton/blister but for boxes of scales, heck I even cover them in plastic wrap to prevent from dust, water etc coz for sure someday I will sell them and assure future buyer that the figure and its box has been well taken care of. Yes there are market for boxless figures and it's up to the collector to check carefully if the figure and the seller are legit.

Ive actually bought a few figures without their original boxes but all of them have come broken during shipping and the sellers were just looking to get rid of them since they got replacements. My most recent pickup was the quarter scale B-style mai sakurajima. I was hesitant at first since there are known bootlegs but the seller was kind enough to send over the replacement order slip that came with an apology from freeing as well as a small grab bag full of goodsmile/freeing decals. Only thing that was wrong with the figure is one of the bunny ears came loose during shipping. Seems like it wasnt glued in the factory, but simple fix.

I'm so sorry she's a bootleg :( I've seen scale figures for sale without boxes before but have bootlegs that are so close in detail that I'm at a loss if it's the real thing, some bootlegs get pretty close in replication. Regarding buying grails without boxes, I've done this before through a proxy. From store to the warehouse, she did break (just a prop thankfully and easy fix, she was immaculate), but I asked the proxy to please carefully wrap her in a tiny box so she wouldn't bang around, since this was part of a larger shipment, and they did just that. She spent 3 months on a boat and was perfectly safe! So while it can be risky, buying figures, especially grails, without a box can definitely save you a couple $100. Good luck!

I like the box since it gives a nice contrast to other figures if I don't currently have any to go with it. Putting a Nami from one piece in a santa costume next to a badass whitebeard wouldn't have much appeal, but the santa Nami box looks a lot better next to him. In addition to safety of the figure, it gives you options as to how you want to display your collection. It also adds to collector's value since people lose and throw away boxes, which means in the aftermarket it is rarer to find things with their original box.

I bought one without a box but it was by mistake. I didn’t realize the figure was without a box until it arrived. mine looks great and was well packaged, but with some auctions I usually take that as a sign of being possibly a fake or counterfeit figure. Figures that are way too cheap is another sign. I am glad yours worked out.

A good indicator are the faces and the paintjob. If you see parts that should be the same color all around, you'll see parts like the black on the coat not fully colored. This bootleg is damn good, though.

I tried to buy a figure off of MFC and it was a little over $100 without the box meanwhile I could get her from someone else cheaper with the box. I have bought a holy grail once the guy had good reviews and it didn't come in the box or the extra hand but it had to face and all, and it was real, i trust people at times and i got what i wanted since i don't see myself selling things unless i need to or unless people understand there is not box.

And now you know why the box is so important and lack thereof will usually reduce the value by 30-50%. Now, there are collector like me who want the complete set anyway, that accounts for some of the value, especially for figures that are way above MSRP, because those tend to be only reached due to serious collectors in the market--I have bought figures at 300-400% markup. But for figures that are less sought after by collectors and thus inflated, it is mostly due to the bootleg issue. This figures is probably so close to the real deal because it is made with the same mold as the real deal. It is a somewhat common problem for molds to be smuggled out of the factory to make bootlegs, especially if the manufacturing is in China. This figure, btw, is made in China, according to a picture I can find of the bottom of the box on MFC. Perhaps as an effort to counter this or simply as a matter of logistics, the box, the figure and the blisters are usually made by three different companies. As such, it is a lot harder for the counterfeiters to get all three (or to be able to correctly replicate all three), not to mention many stickers, where applicable, are made and applied in Japan. Personally, if I cared about authenticity, and I do as a collector, I would never buy a figure without a box. Or at very least, not a figure that is made in China should one be less liquid and unable to splurge the 300-400% markup where applicable. That said, I don't have as much ill will toward counterfeit as some people. I actually don't have too much of a problem if they were honest about it and the purchase thereof no longer hurts the creator of the real figure. Specifically, where the figure is already sold out and only trades on secondary market, it doesn't actually hurt the creator. That said, if there ever is a re-release, if this is the line of reasoning, one should be obligated to buy the re-release. It is, in this case, a victimless crime--the buyer is not a victim because it is bought knowingly and the original maker is not a victim because they didn't lose any potential profit. This rather uncaring attitude toward counterfeit probably stem from the fact that I, like many, engaged in piracy in terms of anime to begin with. Of course, in this case, it was a scam in that they didn't disclose the fact that it is a bootleg to you and that is a problem in and of itself. I own a total of three bootlegs, from the days when I was poor (one was a gift). One is a kurumi scale, that looks quite good, not as good as this in that there is a bigger variation on paint color but the casting was perfect. I now have 12 legit Kurumi, between owning and pre-ordered, including both the eStream and the 1/2.5 one. (Yes, I do have a Kurumi problem. It's just her. My next highest is 3... well, depend on how you count, I've 3 Salter, 2 Saber and a saber lion) Two are 2B... figmas? I now own a proper 2B(the Flare one everyone have) and... ordered the premium masterline set. I dare say I have "paid my debt" Same with piracy in general too be honest. I've watched many anime, read many manga on questionable sites. Now I own a full book case of blu ray and then some and same with manga and light novel. I actually still use pirate site now and then. I hate streaming with a passion and only likes collecting blu rays. But often times physical media have a 6-12 month delay after the show is released(recently made worse due to Covid), so.... I don't feel particular guilty about it as I will be buying the blu ray and that is far more support to the industry than streaming ever could be. So I don't have a problem with technical IP violations, as long as all party involved are aware and, once one is economically capable, pay their debt to the industry. If someone can only afford to spend a certain amount (or not at all), it doesn't do the industry any favors for them to be simply shut out altogether. I think piracy/counterfeit is only a problem when it is a scam or when someone is able to support the industry but doesn't. Insofar as figures goes, that probably happens when someone gets their 10th bootleg or so--you could have gotten at least one real figure by that point, even if you just gotta have your top 3 waifu or whatever.

I've bought ONE figure boxless and uuh somewhat regrets? It's the Misaki Mei figure by Griffon, as stated no box and it didn't come with the extra face. No problem, I didn't mind that b/c her figure goes from 200-300dllrs and she's TINY I also don't switch my figure's faces and she came with an extra figure of her (but a prize one) So great deal for 60dllrs! Only problem was that the seller put ALL of the pieces in a single bag and there was paint transfer.. so she has some minor scuffs and I cleaned out most of the paint transfer, was pretty upset the seller was so careless. But she is decently rare, and small enough to where I can't even tell where the scuffs/minor marks are. It was also a steal for 60 vs 200+, if she weren't so rare I'd be pretty upset however or if I had paid 200+ x'D (this happened to me with AmiAmi pre-owned and the recently re-release Saber Alter dress ver. and she's now 20dllrs less than what I paid pre-owned and w/o a bent sword tip or super glue on the base @_@ )

I think most major sellers ship really fast. Private sellers might take longer time. And I've only attempted to use buyee with pre-ordered stuff so far, so I can only tell you that as long as they don't get the products to them, they don't ship them :D Hopefully I'll soon see which time it takes from them getting them to shipping them.

I think bootleg manufacturers and sellers are the worst piece of trash of the collecting community. Like, to find the 1/4 Freeing Bunny Erza, you have to spend hours checking each detail because the bootleg is really convincing !

I'm sorry she's a bootleg. I've been reluctant to buy from yahoo Japan auctions but with AmiAmi's limited shipping options and the fact that DHL raised their shipping prices I wanted to ditch AmiAmi and shop through Yahoo Japan. With this experience will you still shop with Yahoo Japan?

Another option can be Amazon Japan. Their shipping prices are great, and so long as you make sure the order is fulfilled by Amazon figure legitimacy is supposed to be pretty good. I recently got the Bellfine 1/7 Elaina figure and she came out great. Granted Amazon is a lot rougher with their boxes than AmiAmi. And of course, if it looks too good to be true it probably is

@@emmanuelramirez5120 just to add to Cayleigh’s great advice wrt Amazon JP - if it is labelled shipped from Amazon JP regardless if the seller is Amazon JP or a non-Amazon store, the figure can be shipped directly to an overseas address; if you have a forwarding service address like TENSO, it opens up a greater number of sellers who will not ship to an overseas address. In both situations just check that the seller has good customer feedback, and use Google Translate to decipher the description of the figure. Pro tip on figuring out if the Amazon item is a bootleg is the ridiculously cheap price as Cayleigh suggested above, and as opposed to a bona fide manufacturer they’d put some gibberish as the manufacturer instead. Sometimes they’d add it would take a few weeks to ship. I have a number of figures including a FREEing B-style Zero Two from sellers on Amazon JP using the above and all are the real stuff. They can be (not all the time) slightly cheaper but not ridiculously cheap like the fakes. Good luck!

Although finding out it’s a bootleg (and therefore a disappointment), it’s still allright. You have a similar looking figure for a third of the going rate. The only other alternative is not having her at all. I have purposely bought some bootleg figures (Funko Pops admittedly) because I would never be able to afford the original ones. I can live with it.
