My father had a 1980 Suzuki truck like this on the farm we had. It was a 2 stroke, self mixing 550cc engine 4x4. I believe he lifted it about 2 or 3 inches with 30 to 32 inch mud tires. That thing was amazing as a farm truck, there literally was nothing it couldn't do better than any Ford or Chevy truck on the farm and mud that would easily sink a Ford or Chevy was a non-issue for it. We had it from 1983 to 1998 when he sold the farm and the little truck with it. It still ran great. I loved the fold down sides on the bed. Not saying I'd run it as a daily driver on the road, but as for industry/farm work, I'd choose these over anything. Basically a UTV on steroids is how I'd describe one.

Speaking as an american who has lived in SE Asia for the past 6 years, it is amazing how funny Americans see the vehicles most of the world drive as "funny" and "unusual". We are the ones who drive huge trucks and SUVs. The rest of the world drive vehicles very similar to this Suzuki. These trucks are everywhere in the Philippines and Thailand. They are as common to see as the f-150 that u would see in any small mid western town
@J_Trask2 жыл бұрын
I wish they were more common in the US so I could get one at a decent price. That’s why I don’t want to get a truck in the US, they are huge and in turn aren’t going to be good on fuel.

Also in the Philippines, these Suzuki vehicles are imported from Japan and they are already used. Mechanics convert these trucks/vans to left hand drive by cutting the dashboard and stuff. I had a Suzuki DA63T (Truck) and had it traded for a minivan DA64W (Wagon). Both 660cc.

Hi Mike! It would probably be a good idea to do some research on that tachometer. Most 'parts store' tachs are only set up for 4, 6 or 8 cylinder engines (2, 3 or 4 ignition pulses per revolution) so what may seem to be a "very high idle" at 1500rpm indicated, would actually only be 750rpm (if it is set to 6 cylinder)

@Mikefestiva3 жыл бұрын
@@myconight The name Kei is a class of car, truck and vans sold in Japan and are (ultra compact) basically all Kei vehicles sold need to be 660cc or less and an overall set length to be sold as a Kei vehicle, there’s a range of rules and benefits that come with owning a Kei vehicle in Japan. The “Carry” is Suzuki’s truck version, Just like the F150 is Fords 1/2 ton, the Every is Suzuki’s Van version just like the Acty is Honda’s Kei truck. I just bought one of these. Suzuki Carry with 4x4 and factory front and rear lockers. It also has converted left steering and pedals and the extended cab. A real buy at $3,000. It needs a water pump and probably a timing belt kit. It runs awesome but starts to heat after 10 minutes of running. Also has a winch and off road front bumper. Tires need upgrading. Its amazing how much room is inside for the size of the cab. You were my inspiration of getting this and will be following your experiences with this.

That’s a pretty good deal man 👍 I would look into replacing the thermostat first before doing the water pump. I'll tell you why this is a great video.....It really illustrates how so many issues are centered around vacuum issues and carb adjustments. In the most basics, you have air and gas mixture. With EGR stuff, emissions add ons and vacuum hoses, things get to be a mess. Reminds me of my bugs and transporters that were late 60's - early 70's. To import them into California, VW had to add all this garbage like a NOX system, throttle postitioner and other garbage. My smoging ritual was this: time to smog- put the crap on, pass it, take it off. Interesting is my 69 bug passed emissions with flying colors with the emmisons garbage off. It would not pass the visual. Put it on and it barely passed. Great video Mike!!!!!!!!!!

I don't need an F350 on less than 20 acres, just 4x4 for the mud and a bed to haul larger items. Right on 👍 Thanks for checking out my videos! These trucks are awesome, you will have a smile on your face every time you are driving it 😊 The truck bed is surprisingly big for the small size of the truck, it’s 6 feel long, I parked next to a Toyota Tacoma recently and my truck bed was the same length as the Tacoma. Plus all 3 sides fold down or you can completely remove them for a flat bed. They also have a 800LBs load capacity but I’m sure you could easily hold 1/2 ton. They also steer extremely tight so turning around is really easy 👍 If you are in the Washington area, you should check out my brothers video of buying his Honda Kei truck. We call them multicabs in the Philippines, I paid 65000 pesos that's like 1300 us dollars, it was 2 wheel drive it was pretty beat up but we used it the better time of building our place and sold it for same price, the one you have there is really sweet even having to add the additional work that your gonna do it's gonna make it worth it, I'd say you are not gonna lose. Nice rig.. it's very clean.. good luck and God bless

I live out in Japan and these little kei trucks are as common as bicycles out here. Every farmer out here has one. Bummer they aren't something you can pick up at a dealership in the US. A brand new one in Japan is under 9k. Super cheap. It's always cool seeing a full sized dirt bike strapped in the back of one of those. Takes up the whole bed. These trucks are the preferred ride if you've got a dirt bike that's not street legal.

I've wanted one of these for a long time. And I think the PERFECT engine for these would be a Honda goldwing engine the 4cyls go from 1000 to 1200cc and the 6cyl are 1500 and 1800cc would be a massive bump in power. The 1800 and on even has reverse! 6 forward gears and all of them are shaft drive. I think they are perfect for these

Jis screwdriver will solve most of your issues with those carb screws. They look like Philips but they're a little different. A manual impact that you hit with a hammer can also be a lifesaver.

Nice! I remember the first time I seen vehicles very similar to yours. I was just 16 and living in Okinawa, Japan. I didn't even know they existed. There was several different types and makes. It was 1972 73 and we had a VW bus and you can imagine how driving one of those on those very small streets that they had. Often we had to backup to let oncoming traffic by. I had hoped that I could have one for my first vehicle. As it was it was 1977 before I had my first car. It was a good thing I did not have one of those because I rear-ended a 1974 Chevy. I totaled out my car and two teeth from trying to eat my steering wheel. Whatever you do stay away from head-on collisions.. Even airbags and seat belts could not save you in any Collision like that.

Got picked off by a widow on her late husband's 1994 Dodge D150. She told me the AC needed to be recharged. Got home and found out it didn't have AC. Didn't matter, it was a great love affair. Beautiful truck you have there. Enjoy it!!

That window sticker is the shaken certificate sticker. The 10 means October is the month the shaken test needs to be done, every other year. The 14 in the top right corner means heisei year 14, which is 2002 on the western calendar. So that was the last time this truck passed the shaken in japan. The shaken test is kinda like the CA smog test, but way more of a pain in the ass. They check not just emissions, but the whole car; anything from brake pad thickness, to even the headlights being aligned properly. 12 years is a pretty good run for a car here in Japan. Most cars usually don't make it past the 5 year mark.
@paultaylor76913 жыл бұрын
As you describe the 'Shaken test', it sounds very similar the the UK MoT (Ministry of Transport) which is undertaken annually and is really concerned with safety & emissions. Coming to America, I'm staggered about the differences between the MoT and Inspection here ... Chalk & Cheese!

Those screws you were having trouble with might be Japan Industrial Standard (JIS). They’re slightly different from Phillips head, and are identifiable by a small dimple in one of the four corners of the cross. Using a JIS screwdriver might help.

Mike, I watched all of the articulated vehicle videos last night. I like your attention to details. Your videos are just the right length and are packed with content. I think twice about watching an hour long video, and don’t like watching someone attack bar stock with a hacksaw in real time, so your editing is very good. I like all the stuff you have done. In summary you are doing excellent work on all of it.

Hesitation at 1/4 throttle wont be the Needle setting- On a CV carb, it's wanting a slightly fatter pilot jet due to the less restrictive exhaust and air filter- ALSO- Buy some J.I.S. screw drivers, none of your fasteners are PHILLIPS - JDM stuff and some Japanese import stuff have Japanese Industrial Standard fasteners-

Came here to say this about the J.I.S screws and screwdrivers. To identify a J.I.S. screw, there will be a dot punched into the head of the screw between the legs of the cross (X) where the screwdriver fits. Look at the head of a screw, see a dot (that looks like someone made with a center punch) centered between two legs of the slot, get a J.I.S. screwdriver.
