Excellent practical demonstrations of everything to do with driving class A vehicles along with live streams of training sessions with actual students. Starting, stopping, turning, parking, docking, up shifting, down shifting, recovering missed gears, etc.
• How to shift a 10 spee...
Great video on the theory behind shifting an unsynchronized, straight-ten manual truck transmission.
• Video
Really interesting video on developing shifting technique for absolute beginners.
cdlcollege.com/courses/CDL_Le...
Single page tip sheet for shifting a ten speed.
• 🎬 TRUCK DRIVER STUDENT...
Good video on the basics of negotiating turns and curves. Off-tracking, lane control, button handle vs jug hook turns, etc.

Congratulations on getting your truck license! I'm retired 2 million accident free OTR Trucker. So you don't look the fool IRL GET OUT AND L👀K. Especially when backing. Don't worry if you're having a bad backing day.....as long as you don't hit anything is what counts. The 💩 talkers only know how make noise and not walk the talk.

Super on getting a CDL. I grandfathered in after I got a Chauffeurs license in 72 or 73 after the Army. Fine running rig and a 3406 is a SUPER engine. Looks like a 'B' manual system. I herded one in a Pete tri-axle, a Cat 980 loader and a 245 shovel made rock hammer. Plenty of zip.Never did any long hauling. Just dump stuff ald lowboy, plus trying to run everything I could crawl in or sit down on. And IF you are a Tarheel, that'll make 2 of us. Blessings
@AlwaysBored123
@AlwaysBored123 Жыл бұрын
Very cool. I've only ever heard good things about the 3406 so I think I'll hang onto this one. It might come in handy. Cat made some great stuff back in the day. I don't think I'm a tar heel technically but I certainly know some lol.

@@AlwaysBored123 I'm a native Tarheel; a rare and endangered species and a pal that's a old time wrench man said that a 3406 was like the old Macks if they were set up right. The Pete didn't know what a load was and you with a single axle will be like a drag truck! I hauled a D7F around with an old MB (trash truck cab) Mack with a 237 and a 5-speed in these hills and never gave it a 2nd thought. And if you ever want to get TOTALLY confused, crawl in a truck with a Mack 5x4 quad box, but that's not the worst for me. I'll tell you about it sometime. BLESSINGS!

Thats nice how NC does it in terms of just showing up to take CDL test. In CT you have to attend a CDL 'school' and take all the classes theres no way around it. the fastest classes are still a week long and a few thousand dollars.
@AlwaysBored123
@AlwaysBored123 Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how CT was before but, on February 7th 2022, the feds changed the rules so now everyone is required to attend CDL school before you can even get the learners permit for a CDL. I snuck in just before the deadline.
@thesmallenginekid

@@AlwaysBored123 I see. Yes in CT before I think you could just take the test. I forgot that was a federal rule. I would have tried to get mine but I was not 18.

If you haven't already gotten your cdl's most states if not all require you to go to truck driving school now. Don't hold me to that though but Tennessee truck driving school is one of the best that I found. That's where I went 5 years ago. It's a 3 week course. Nice looking truck.

@AlwaysBored123
@AlwaysBored123 Жыл бұрын
The blue one was actually a 80's International I got from the same guy. It ran and drove but it was in even worse condition imo. Plus it had a less desirable power train. I ended up selling it to a guy that said he was gonna take it to Mexico.

Good eye it sure was. The previous owner gave me a cool brochure from the bankruptcy auction his father bought it at. They had lots of these Freightliners along with Internationals and Ford L-series. I would've hated to be the guy pulling wiggle wagons in this thing all day with no power steering or cruise control. The 7 speed shifts really nice though at least.

@AlwaysBored123

IIRC it was, $75 for the commercial learners permit, $90 for a DOT physical, $650 for the trucking school to test me in their truck (which included up to six attempts), And then $100 for the actual license. So call it $1000 total give or take.
