Its 2022 & I just picked up a 2018 KLR with 2300 miles on it unmolested, light wear from a gentleman in his 70's. Paid 5000 & put another grand into accessories (including thermobob & doohicky) engine & rear guards, larger windscreen & a few other items. Essentially ill have the equivalent of the new adventure model for $4000 less. They're cheap to maintain, hard to kill, great community for info & help, its simply hard to beat!

Buying a used anything is a good idea, but buying my Klr was awesome. In 2018 I bought a well experienced 2006 Klr with 14,000 miles for $1,700. It had belonged to a soldier in the Marines. He painted the tank army camo tan and all the plastic parts are covered in bedliner. I added full dirt racks crash bars up front and dirt racks pannier racks in the back. I have small ammo cans mounted up front and large ammo can pannier boxes in the back. I have done every Klr mod known and I might have $3,200 in it, maybe. I have done 1,700 miles of the TAT, multiple trips to Colorado to just camp and fish and gold pan some, and have put right around 20,000 more miles on it. The last day of this month I am headed to Antelope Wells to head North on the CDT and plan to ride about half of it to Rawlings, Wy. (That's all that time would allow) Buy a new bike, no way, unless you don't care if it's laying down in a river crossing, or laying in the rocks on Engineer Pass, or in sand drift on a long straight road in the Oklahoma panhandle. I will just keep riding my paid for tank of a Klr that keeps taking me everywhere I have ever pointed the handle bars.

Just picked up another '08 KLR50. My first one just went TU about a week ago. I will rebuild it but need a bike for our vacation in July. $3100 is what I paid for it with just a touch over 13k miles on it. They're not gonna get me for nearly $9k otd for a new one!

I just bought a 2022, love it! I’ve got the same issues as you, being a shorter rider but haven’t had any real issues. I looked for a used KLR650 before buying a new one, but couldn’t find one without having to drive halfway across the country to where it was so just went with a new one. Enjoyed your vid

I have owned two KLRs. A 1996 was the first purchased used in 2007 for $1500. Road that hell out of that for 7 years then sold it fir $1000. In 2016 bought a 2003 for $2200. Had 8000 miles on it. Currently has 30,000 miles. Will sell it in spring 2023. Then begins the quest for another low mileage KLR. I dont think I will ever buy a new one. I love these bikes they are very versatile and fun. Have two road bikes also. That said the KLR is my fave. Thanks for your videos. Will be tuning in.

As a KLR owner, I'd advise against getting one for your very first bike. Learn the fundamentals on a lighter, more nimble machine. The KLR would be a fantastic 2nd bike!

Looks like you're cruising around Prescott/PV area. Nice. I enjoyed the video very much. I just want to let people know that you can get lowering links for these from 1"-4" for less than $100. Super easy to lower it yourself if you have a motorcycle jack and a bottle jack. Keep the shiny side up.

I've had four KLRs, all were used. They were all good but my best one is my 2002 with 40k miles, it has the best power and is set up perfectly for me (tall). If I see a bargain priced one I buy it. I gave 1000 bucks for my 2002. I use the same Corbin seat on all of them, which ever one I'm riding.

I have been waiting to buy my third KLR for about a decade now. I keep waiting for the "all matte black painted EVERYTHING" to go away or at least be available in silver/aluminum. My 2004 was my favorite and regret selling it since the day she left. Nope. Waiting and waiting. After 10 years I may be making a beeline for a new Suzuki DR650. As far as keeping the indestructible engine unchanged it still surprises me that a sixth gear wasn't added.

I just bought a 2011 KLR with 9k miles for $3000. It was well modded but I did add luggage. I’ll probably add a few more comfort’s but I love this bike! For me it’s a perfect beginner bike. At 5’9” I am on my toes at a stop. I’ve thought about a lower seat but the the bike is really comfortable to me as is.

What's weird about the seat height is, I'm 5'9" and had the opportunity to sit on the 2023 S model with the 2" lower seat...I was flat footed with a bend in my knee. I've been considering one of these used as well, coming from XT's as well and a BMW F650GS, but that bike I could almost flat foot riding alone so it was not intimidating. It had some wiring and mechanical issues, and being a BMW it was expensive to fix, so ultimately we sold it...but it was a fun bike to ride in places the XT wasn't, as you said. I need to find a regular, non low seat version and see how I fit

I saw a guy in a fb group yesterday who got a gen1 for $400. He rattle can painted it and it looks better than my 2k stock gen1 lmaoo. Yes, you should buy a used klr650, gen1 is best gen, but any flavor will make you smile if you like to ride more than look pretty. Edit: Holy shit didn't realize this video is so old. Cheers! lol

Nice bike. Watching the video I was getting motion sick. LOL. I'm looking at 2012 for 3000. I thought that was kind of low and made me wonder if there was something wrong. Would you recommend anything critical to check. Weak spot? Thx.
@precipiceofgrind
@precipiceofgrind Жыл бұрын
Inspect for leaks. When's the last time fluids were changed? How long has the bike sat? Valves probably need to be checked. If the motorcycle has sat for a long period you're going to have to do a carb rebuild.

idk, around here everyone is asking way to much for their used bike. seen one 20k miles asking 5k or a guy with a 2022 asking 8k with 1k miles meanwhile the local powersport store has a new 2023 model no miles starting at 5899... its a no brainer to buy new.

This is a serious question to anyone out there that can help with my decision, I grew up riding dirtbike's and quads my whole life been riding Harley' s last 20 years or so currently have an electra glide so riding is not new to me but owning a KLR would be... I want to be capable of cruising off the pavement into the woods when i feel the urge.... stop in a local shop seen a 2018 with 19k miles lots of mods... full luggage bags & trunk (not a fan) but its there. Rear fender delete, aftermarket pipe, seat, mirrors, handle bars, crash bars LED lights usb charging panel, doohicky, center stand, foot pegs, rear shock & better than stock tires.. is it worth $4,700 or should i spend 6k on a new left over 2023
@precipiceofgrind
@precipiceofgrind Жыл бұрын
You're going to spend a few grand outfitting the new KLR with all that similar gear so you're probably looking closer to 8 or 9K for the 23 model in the end. Or not. I wouldn't have a problem getting the 2018 model and you could probably get it for cheaper with cash in hand.
