I told my wife when we bought our Comanche 250, There is no justification for the money this will cost us. We do it because we love airplanes and aviation. By the way were both A&P’s.

Very interesting. I purchased a plane last year but during the process I had two that I was unsuccessful on. The successful buyers offered more than the asking price and waived the pre-buy. On one I had made a full cash offer. Bryan touched on the market effect and I totally agree! And to John's point, I can afford to put a new motor on it but it's also slower than the warrior. The whole process was less than conventional.

Owner assist is a great way to learn what you have. If… IF you are mechanically inclined and can understand what you are seeing. If an A&P won’t allow owner assist I personally will go to another A&P. There are a lot of pencil whipped log books out there…

Another KZbin pilot that I used to watch bought a Barron and found out at his first annual that the plane had had a wheels up landing. Sadly it wasn't cost effective to do the repairs.

In the midst of the second annual now. Looking like about 60% of the first. Although probably about 15% of that is "while were here" or non-airworthiness issues that were deferred from last year. Hoping next year is easier and shorter.

So the 210 guy took off immediately after an annual with 4 people on board and no seatbelts in the back and no insurance? Is that even legal?
@mattgirgenti35952 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. Plane is within annual, and if preflight checks passed, you're good to go. Insurance isn't required. That said, legal and smart are two VERY different things.

Question, and I don't mean to come across as pretentious: of the 1st year annual is very big and expensive followed by a large year 2 etc why buy that plane? Wouldn't it be wiser to keep looking for a newer plane, less hours etc or is the market flooded with crap and that's really all that's available in the used market?
@cessnarigging2 жыл бұрын
Good question. In most cases you are trying to match up the best candidate to fit a set budget at the time. Things like interior, paint, avionics can be accomplished at a later date as finances become available. For example a newer T182 starts around 1/2M. A 182P or Q for a fraction of that cost may fit current mission profile at the time that still performance & capability wise is comparable. All the upgrades can be spread out over time as funding becomes available.

After watching this pre buy video that was very well done I purchased 5 airpalnes in my days thier was no such thing as a prebuy, bought moony 20A and had first engine failure in the first 45 days, then bought a 1975 twin camache with 1200 hours no problems, then bought Lake 200 again no prebuy or problems, then purchased Senica 1 with very low time engines no problems and last piper aerostar 600a non turbo again no problerms and turned out to be the most reliable aircraft every. Today for sure would now do a prebuy when you consider the hourly cast of Labour and parts you could go end up spending a lot of money. Last the most important comment find a good mechanic, stick with him, and get involved with the maintenece cycle . Of note on those 5 aircraft put on close to 5000 hours with 3000 hours twin Instrument. Now retired from flying. Christopher from Canada

I love this. BrYan is great, but dude, you beat to death that race. Face it, she beat you. If you bought the Comanche as some for of retribution (I know you didn't), then you aren't a quarter of the man I think you are (and you are). So, joke was funny, once. The picture of the Warrior inverted, though, that WAS funny. So, I know you were considering that yellow and green Debonaire. What happened to that deal? How did you end up in the Comanche? Oh, if you're interested, I know where you can find a 1955 310, it just needs a 'little work.' Check out the KZbin channel 'Jimmy's World!' LOL Hope all is going well with the new addition to the family and that your business is doing well.

I’m a little confused about this comment because right around the 15 minute mark I talk about getting a pre-buy done on the Warrior because I bought it in Seattle.
