I agree E46 M3CSL is epic! However, I really love the M2CS (and it's adaptive suspension), all the CF & extra HP. The F87 isn't an M3 (officially) but I count it as one. These G80 M cars are just a tad under 2 tons. I tried buying an M2CS for $85k but my dealer couldn't find me one (now they're selling for $115k w/ low miles). new 2 series looks kinda whack so I don't know what to expect w/ new M2 in 2023. E46 & F87 have the best looks imo.

E9X is model and better driving experience with the V8. The E46 is only lighter and better balanced. If that equates to a better car for you, then I advise to got out in both on the freeways and push them to the their limits. The V8 is better.

I’m glad you guys understand what this car is and glad you are just leaving it smg. It makes sense on any other e46 m3 but on a CSL bmw intended it that way and that’s how it should remain plus most likely as it gets more collectible it would fetch more money if it is untouched and kept all stock.

I just want to point out that as far as you're compliant about Bmws manual gearboxes, I would agree with you. But you can fix the problem by installing a short throw shifter lol

Finally someone on utube who knows the car and appreciates the SMG, so much undeserved hate from people who never used the SMG, for me it gives the car much more character. Maintained well, driven properly and with the CSL map (a must) its phenomenal. The manual is overrated imo

At the end of the day, it's still a automated single clutch and is and never will be nowhere near on the level of dual clutches of any kind. Even when working perfectly, it's a noticable delay when shifting, which kills some of the power delivery. From pure enjoyment standpoint, people manual swap these for a reason.

Here’s a good question would a manual swap even increase value on a csl? As it’s such a special and rare car would it sit at the same value given it’s no longer original? Or do you think the market still dictates that premium for a manual swapped car over a factory smg. I know with your vanilla m3 it does add value but just got me 🤔

Given the smg was a brilliant break in tech back then and it is pretty amazing at what it does and what it’s capable of. I drove a customers estriol blue m3 with smg and with sport mode off it actually drives well and has areas to enjoy over a manual if that makes sense?

A great video. Gloat alert. I ran in an M3 CSL when I worked for BMW Australia in 2005. I needed to do 2000km in 4 days. It remains one of my most amazing automotive experiences. I couldn’t exceed 4000 rpm but did do this at Phillip Island about a year later. It’s the car I would buy in an instant if I could. Strangely, it’s the car than connects me with a country and a brand that I love. Congrats guys, enjoy it!

Every time I hear a CSL I always think; 'why don't more manufacturers fit these aggressive air boxes to their cars?' I mean, exhausts all have to sound tame now. Why not just focus on induction note instead?

Love the CSL. The E46 is one of the prettiest M3’s and the CSL turns that up to 11 and it has one of the best induction noises ever. A chap had a well used one at Caffeine & Machine last summer which he had converted to manual. Some may says that’s sacrilege, but it was pretty cool, at the time his had done over 140k so it was well used.

As an inhabitant of the Netherlands, when I see these videos, I always wonder: do you ever get into dangerous situations with regards to people overtaking on those twisty b roads? Since those British roads always seem to be sided with dense bushes they are difficult to oversee. Or is it prohibited to overtake on those roads? Very nice car btw, I own a 330ci 2004 myself.
