They are have a lack of maintenance, been abused, and butchered up. .. it doesn’t have to be right it just has to work

LOL - once it started you bought it - I bought my boat that way, once it started and shifted, I was good. Great video, informative and pertinent with other heavy equipment… stay away from the Q province lol - nice to see a vid from you - cheers

My farmall C had water in the transmission. I found a shift boot for a Ford tractor that fit perfectly, and it cured my water problem. It should fit your skidder

Great video! Thank you for taking the time to show and explain things. I am looking at the same machine from 66. The listing says (copy/pasted) EXCELLENT Running machine. Put on the job sight right now and put to work 353 Detroit. The engine has 1600 hrs on overhaul. Spare transfer case and spare tire and wheel go with it. Winch rebuilt around 200 hours ago, needs cable. 500 hours on new center pins They are asking 10k. Your opinion jump on it, or run away? The machine is 4 hrs from me, skidders never seem to go for sale here most use dozers so finding it is rare, in the pictures the machine is freshly washed, can't tell what is seeping or oozing, it looks clean as in recently washed, but it's been used for sure, abused, cant tell. I'm definately not a mechanic, but a couple of curses, bloody knuckles, and you tube goes a long ways.

I have a c4 172 gas my grandfather and dad had and I did a shitload of work to it. There is nothing cheap about these things, but I know what I have and it will last me out. As far as gear oil leaks and such, it's just the nature of the beast, to heck with tearing everything apart replacing seals, let er leak a little and top it all up as required.

Only skidder with functioning brakes will be a Deere, had lots of other brands on most had little to no braking action Your comments are fairly spot on. Your machine is typical of what’s out there. Most require lots of oil. No one has made a small skidder since the mid to late eighties other than a few one off low volume manufactures. 10 years ago you couldn’t give away a small skidder, but now the are back in favor and will continue to gain popularity as the carbon tax goes up. We are just about complete on rebuilding a couple of 440 Deere skidders. One got an engine and the other an engine and tranny, plus lots of hoses, one center pin. Down to slow hydraulics and diff locker on one and a bad thermostat on the other. My dad put a 4.5L natural in one, he thought it was a 4239 (wrecked ditch witch) which starts very good and has lots of torque. These will be fairly premium machines or the age, restoration would be new tires, paint, seat and hoses. I’m expecting to get 15k + out of them. Going to servicing up my own 440B up in the next few week to clean up some deadfall in the back 20 acres

I love the two smoke diesel sound... And what a big crack in that crack that has been welded once already, some stress happening there, maybe grind/Torch some or most of that old weld out... and put a fresh bead on it... The thought of it possibly breaking during work and stopping a project, doesn't seem practical.... or is it Ok to leave it this way, and fix it when it breaks??? Completely
@PowerModzOfficial6 ай бұрын
that's a cable guide to keep the cable on the drum...if i weld it and the cable gets caught under there again ill have to cut it to get it out - the whole thing is a bit sloppy so best to just run the way it is...it isnt structural basically
