My first several I brought c-stand was on Amazon. I didn't know better when I brought them and I didn't have enough money to get the brand name c-stand. Great video, keep on making them.

My first venture into C Stands was buying an Avenger stand in parts from 3 different places, all slotted together beautifully and is quite simply rock solid equipment. I've seen some of the cheaper ones now, and its possible some may be good, though what I saw suggests lesser build quality, I'm happy enough knowing this stuff I have is solid and built to outlast me. One tip on price, look also at Music grip providers, sometimes you'll find a big discount in cost for the very same part numbers.

Avenger gear and American Grip are solid and meant to take a lot of wear and tear on a filmset and in and out of the grip truck.

If you have a c-stand that has hard to open legs, like the Neewer stands, open the legs first and put the base on the floor. then add the pole.

That only works on C+ stand.

Hold on. You said that all the sets you were on had chrome stands but if it's problem then you should black the stand out with tape or cloth? Therefore shouldn't people buy the black stands then?

Not black out the whole stand, just where it's reflecting. Also, chrome stands are cheaper.

If I want to mount a large softbox onto a c-stand,, can I put it right on the top mount of the stand (without using the grip head) or what would you recommend? I have an Avenger and don't want to mess it up.
