It's not so much about whether it works or not though, it's more because a) the artist deserves to receive support for their work. If you like their work, more money going to them means they are more likely to be able to continue to create B) because the people who make these fake cards are often working in sweatshops with poor treatment and way less pay than they should get. C) the "real" decks tend to be much better in quality (as shown in the video) You obviously can do whatever you want with your money, but plenty of people buy these fake decks being innocent of the reality of where they are coming from and it's good to spread the word. The ONLY down side to getting legitimate decks is they cost more. The real things look and feel nicer and probably will last a lot longer. You know?

I started with a handful of fake decks. They still work with my intuition from the start. But once I experienced using original decks I was blown away with the quality. In my opinion if you don't know or not sure if a deck will work for you, you can buy these first before buying the original ones.

Thank you for recognizing that the deck creators do not receive the compensation for their work. These knock-off decks are not only poorly manufactured, hence the cheap price, they take money directly out of the artist's pocket. Not very good juju.

I picked up a deck like this in a metaphysical store.. they were 10 dollars and just in a tuck box .. I had never heard of the deck before so I grabbed it and I ended up loving it. I looked into it and found out it was a fake I gave it to my daughter to use and immediately purchased from a reliable source and wanted to give the creator what they earned. It was the 'witches tarot'

I saw decks on wish and alyexress for less. But something instinct i felt like i am going to collect karma by buying non legit cards knowingly. For example if you are a card creator u make money through that. But if that is been hacked and sold through other means it will directly impact you. So the non legit cards carry that kind of karma and so i dint went ahead to buy. This is my thought. U can go with what u feel right.

If you have a tarot journal, you can use the fake cards inside the journal. Like if you have a book for the meanings, you can put the fake deck inside, instead of putting in the real ones or printing out images. Xx

I have bought too many cards from wish and ali express. It was cheap and have a good quality for such a cheap price. I have small hands and they have a very good size as well. I think that if you are not a prof tarot reader it is sufficient to have these type of cads. I advise to andra not to pay too much money on orginal tarot decks if you are not prof tarot reader.

They all work the same but the cheap ones don’t come with a guide book. I brought the cheaper ones from Aliexpress to start my collection but I prefer Amazon because I like having a guide book. I also make my own oracle cards with index cards and the messages are accurate. Make sure you cleanse your cards and space.

I prefer the dupes mainly because of the size. The connection I made with some of my dupes were absolutely amazing based off the size alone... lol. I still try, and support the authors as well when my money is right. The creators should be the ones making the cheaper smaller version of their cards. That way they don't give that opportunity to others🤷🏽‍♀️. I actually think it would increase their sells, and keep their money at home. I've wasted so much money on authentic decks I never even connected with.

I have a large collection of Tarot, Oracle, Lenormand etc, all bought legit and most used only once and sat on my bookcase. I tend to use the same two decks and have done for years but I like to buy a new deck every so often, just to have them really. I do think it's wrong ripping off the authors but I also think it's wrong to sell over priced decks and I have a few that the card stock leaves a lot to be desired and they weren't cheap. ,I understand why people will buy the cheaper version, great for learners and if they don't work for you, you haven't shelled out a fortune.

I would love to own original decks. But the problem is I'm a 16 year old jobless student. My parents won't let me get a part time job too :'(( they said I should be focusing on school and not other things. They dont support my interest in witchcraft. my first deck was a knock off and i had no clue :/ i bought the wild unknown of ebay, and it came in a tatty box, with bridge sized cards and awful card stock. but i had no clue until i saw the proper deck on amazon. i thought i hit lucky with the price, but it was actually a waste. since then, i’ve bought 5 legitimate decks of amazon, and i’m lucky to be able to afford them, however i don’t buy them consistently. if you’re starting out in tarot, find a cheap deck on amazon, you can get a standard rider waite for around £10-15. that’s better than getting something at £5 with shocking quality. just saying💛

I totally agree. There are less expensive decks out there for people just getting started. The fake cards feel like crap - if you are a tactile person, who really experiences things through touch, i would highly recommend good quality cards

Obviously, I am not one to judge - I have so many of these! I bought these after not owning tarot cards for many many moons (I list my first deck when our basement flooded and then life happened and I didn’t read for years). I bought these because I didn’t want to waste money if I didn’t stick with it. These are a great way to try something new. But if they don’t last, don’t assume it is common amongst tarot cards. :)

Miscut cards can happen in legit cards,too. I got a set of Intuitive tarot that had pictures running off the edge and a missing card. I wrote to St. Martin’s Press, and, they sent me a free replacement set.

So I'm going to share my story. I started to learn with cheap tarot cards from ebay. There's no harm in that, they actually didn't last long because the quality is.. well.. sometimes not that great. But does it happen often? No it actually happened that sometimes the knock offs had a better quality than the originals. But then I started to get more connected with my cards and then I started purchasing little by little the decks that I love. Buy second hand and search very well on proper shops. If you go on a travel like I go to UK usually it's cheaper on Amazon there. You can buy real versions for like 10 bucks. It's still cheaper than some versions! It also happened to me to get scalped on Amazon. I thought I was buying the real thing while it wasn't and I paid the same thing as the original. Be careful guys! Look the code on the box always and ask for refunds if this happens on legit shops. Also I noticed that some shops from china are now like selling the lined edges decks all pretty and stuff: sometimes it's actually the same price or more expensive than the legit in some parts of the world. At least on my country.

The market is flooded with pirated decks. Another company that sells only pirated decks is called Jewlloy. It is illegal to sell fake decks, and when you buy one you allow yourself to become an accessory to the crime. Such sales cheat the author, artist, publisher, and consumer. I'm not okay with that. Such decks, be they Tarot, Lenormand, or Oracle, are usually of inferior quality and come with no guidebook. The QR code on the box often leads to a malware site. If you buy one unwittingly you should ask for a refund and then buy the genuine article. I can not in good conscience use a fake deck.

I have the wheel of the year deck the copy u have is a knock off a good one but still a knock off. It does come in a tuck box however, it is printed by Lo Scarabeo which is on the box. U have the logo for them on the top but not the bottom where it should be. Plus the cards are not that small and flimsy. It. Does come with a traditional Lo Scarabeo little white book. This Happened to me too when I first got into tarot I have. Since replaced all the ones I got as faked the witches tarot was one of my faves too. I just got the mini legit version instead

I agree completely. I have cards I have used so much the layers that make up each individual card started to separate at the corners so I had to use a bit of glue and squeeze them back together. My clients love that deck. I feel part of the reason clients love to see old battered decks is because it shows the reader has done it many times and is well practiced and knowledgeable. where as if you have a a reader whose cards look brand new you feel like they inexperienced and maybe relatively new to the craft of tarot reading , or they don't have many clients.

It actually came up on Facebook marketplace for $20 the other day but my the time I messaged the seller (20 minutes after the ad went up), it was already gone! I just did this with the Love Pack by Charles Spezzano. It was $599 & I bought the German version for $30 and it was so easy to translate the cards but since you've had this deck before it should be easy for you to grasp. when I first got intrested in tarot i literally bought two packs of regular playing cards and wrote card names with pen and thats how I started. Then I decided I want to try to use "real" cards and I bought some (quite a few actually...) decks from aliexpress to kind of see if after a few months I will still be using them. Suprisingly I really liked the decks that I thought are not something special and some of those I wanted to try the most - i stopped using them really quickly. Now im only 6 months into tarot but I am slowly getting what artwork I can easly resonate with and I already bought 2 legit decks. In future I plan to slowly sell (or give) most of the fake decks and buy legit ones. ALSO I think that fake decks are great for carrying them all the time and for trips - cuz even if you lose them or spill a can of beer on them you wont really regret XD

Taking them on trips is a great thing for fake decks. I actually did a bunch of readings in the woods last summer and did not hesitate to lay my fake decks in the dirt. I dont think I would have done that with my real decks. haha

I absolutely hate those boxes, they’re not doing the cards any good. I suggest buying drawstring pouches (note the size you need) in bulk for cheap from these apps. What I’m planning on doing is getting them all in the same color and using brooches to differentiate the bags. Note: if anyone is struggling finding a place that sells tarot, online or in real life, book depository sells a lot of decks and has free delivery. Sadly, I can’t find all the decks I want, so those I decided to just purchase the knockoff version.

We're I live ( brazil ) the original deck it's so expensive. We pay 5x more because the dollar here are 5x expensive than the nacional currency... And the worst, there some company who made the nacional version of the deck ( translate de original deck to portuguese ), but the quality of this cards are almost the same that one deck purchased on China, even ( in thesis ) being the original deck...

I am more a card collector than I am a reader but I read for myself. I have a back up deck for almost every deck I read with (nerd) and 3 I had no back up and just found dupes on aliexpress I know they are fake but I have the originals so I will buy some as backups and have a look to see how they look like. The wheel of the years is one of them and the lo scarabeo deck is not the greatest cardstock either... And the moder spellcasters and others come with the book and having to pay extra and have 2 books...

You could sleeve them. I got the veilwraith card game which are Tarot sized cards. Sleeve Kings do ones the correct size. I have the labyrinth of souls and devils playground decks sleeved because they'd get mullered without them. It's worthwhile for those flimsy ones.

Shadowscapes' artist is Stephanie Pui-Min Law, The Prisma tarot (silver paint) is an independant deck - the reason you can't find it in the shops. Indy decks are sold directly by the artist.

I have the original witches tarot with book box set and their flimsy cards as well and they are legit i paid 29.99 at bam book store and the card stock is very flimsy but yet i like them..The best card stock i've seen in the newer modern decks are The dreamer's tarot by barbara Moore and i use the original Ryder-Waite smith deck legit decks and these two are thick card stock but like i said the legit witches tarot are a flimsy legit deck.

you can stick with the deck you bought! At the end of the day, you could write all the suits onto pieces of paper and use those and they will work if you can connect with them and trust your intuition. I will be doing a video about tarot card myths in a few weeks - I will be addressing this topic!

EBay is actually a great place to buy authentic decks too. I have bought all but one of my decks through eBay. At first I wasn't aware there are knock-offs so I did end up with a couple of copies. And I did order one intentionally because the deck was limited and is oop. But I have also bought several authentic decks second hand through eBay. I'm planning to use the knock-off decks for paper crafts so I'm glad I didn't pay much for them.

this is a hard one. I plan on doing a whole video about it but the main one would be to shop around and compare the prices - if they seem too good to be true, its probably a fake deck. Also, if they show the packaging and its only a little flimsy box but you know the legit copy has a big storage box, that is another indication.

I got the fake Wheel of the Year Tarot as well (from Amazon) and the original is bigger and has a little white book. I guess the easiest way to tell original and fake decks apart is the missing little white book or guide book in the oracle decks. I mean for someone on a tight bugdet, who only wants to do readings for themselves, sure this is a good alternative. In a professional tarot business though, I would not use fake decks for client readings. Not if I was getting paid for the reading. And like Melissa commented, the Doreen Virtue decks, I don't see a problem with that, since many are out of print so no one is losing money on the publishers side, so go for it. I have just ordered the past life oracle on ebay in english, since that one is not available any longer and sellers ask ridiculously high prices for that one.

Some decks you can buy directly from the publishers (I have bought directly from Hay House, for example). You can buy indie decks on Etsy. Also some big chain bookstores like Chapters/Indigo/Barnes and Noble will have tarot cards in their New Age sections. You can also buy from Amazon - but make sure it is a reputable account and not a third party seller

Fake cards infuriate me. Its so offensive to waste money on illegal reproductions of someone's hard work, who's love and inspiration has gone into each and every piece of imagery on the cards. No matter how cheap and "a better deal" you think you are getting, its unethical and you are funding the theft of other people's work who ultimately lose out. I scrape what I can together and save for decks I want so I know im safe in the knowledge of guilt free readings.

@@NorthernHedgeWitch And, having a lot of decks is fine, I certainly do, but there’s a certain satisfaction to finding one deck you like, using it awhile, getting your energy into it, and then little by little, adding to your collection. Believe me, before you know it, you will have tons of beautiful legit decks all while you were just focused on your one “current” deck. As tarot readers, that’s what we do. One fits our mood for a while, then our lives evolve and so do our card collections. Let it evolve naturally. You will wind up with a beautiful collection. :)

I'm not sure! I didn't even know they sold decks until I read this comment and went to look. Some of the prices seem too good to be real but too pricey to be fakes... The Animal Totem Tarot one is a red flag for me as it does not come with a guide book, but others seem like they would be the real deal. It is $34 for the real version with a lovely guide book or $20 for the version on Walmart without it... my fake version was about $6 without The hard thing about Walmart online is that they now allow third party sellers to post on their website. I wouldn't trust it
