My dad bought the last of the square body Caprice sedans in the 1990 brand new. And he never went back to buy the aero style chevys that came out a couple of years later.

The Impala name was resurrected by Chevrolet just for this sporty version of the Caprice in 1994-96. The Impala had been a lower trim level than the Caprice for many years, until the mid 80s when they dumped the Impala name and called all the trim levels of the full-size rear wheel drive cars Caprice. The history gets more confusing as the later front wheel drive large Chevy sedans of 2000-2019 were all Impalas, including the sporty Impala SS models of 2006 through about 2008. Around 2012, a rear wheel drive car about the same size as the Impala was offered as a police car, and it was called Caprice. In V8 form, it was very fast. A later version of that car was sold to the public, called SS. Not Impala SS, not Caprice SS. Just SS.
