ProIMage100 is NOT like Gold 200! Gold is a lot warmer while ProIMage100 has a much cleaner neutral look. Great greens and pleasent skintones. Go for it!

I just got an XA, myself, and I love it so far. I also have the XA1 which is the black sheep in the XA family; it's a real point and shoot with a fixed focus 35mm f/4 and a selenium light meter for battery-less auto exposure. the Kodak ProImage 100 is definitely worth checking out; it's my favorite daylight general use color film. supposedly it was designed for Central and South America and is designed to hold up better against heat and moisture.

The little XA is a superb camera! But here's a little tip: Don't force the rewind lever if it starts resisting! They are a little fragile and all plastic, so if the film gets stuck, go in a darkroom and open the back. You'll crack the rewind mechanism if you use force. I'm on my second XA now :-)

Great choice with the XA! I myself shot A LOT of rolls with my XA2 before it started behaving too erratically after dropping it a bunch of times. If you want something more point-and-shooty, the XA2 is a great choice, since it has zone focus yet you can still put the lever between distances to get more precise focus when the lens will be wide open. During daytime, the default zone will have almoste everything in focus. It IS a 3.5 isntead of 2.8 but personally I had amazing results with it in lower light, even with ISO 100. Limitations are in your mind!
@Ruylopez778
@Ruylopez778 4 жыл бұрын
For anyone thinking about getting a Hexar AF, the focus uses an infrared beam, so it can struggle with reflective or flat surfaces, but it is possible to lock a focus distance and just zone focus. You need to do it with the fiddly menu buttons, though. It's also quite common for the connection under the shutter button fail, but often just needs a quick clean. The Konica Big Mini would be another affordable P&S.

Same, I've had rocky experience with it too. I want to love it because it's so compact, but I don't think I have the apt for zone focusing. Gone try to give it another shot though, and I'm looking forward to seeing what Matt does with it

Someone just sent you a Rollei 35 as a thank you? Whaaaat?? 😮 That's very cool of them! Funny Matt should show you the Speed Graphic.. I bought one last weekend! I listen to the Large Format Photography Podcast as friends of mine present it and I've started to get an interest in LF. They're doing a whole weekend meetup over here in the UK in May and I thought I'd best have an LF camera to take with me, then a Speed Graphic came up for sale at a VERY good price! 1942 US military version of the Speed Graphic with an f4.5 6 3/8 in (~160mm) Optar lens. Got 25 sheets of FP4 and 25 of HP5 to test out on it. 😁

The Rollei 35 feels like a baby Leica. You will be impressed with the results. I would recommend using an external light meter during the first round. The built-in meter might give you a slightly different reading, depending on whether it has a battery of correct voltage in it.

Hey Matt, I own about six point and shoot cameras and have had great results with 3 of the 6 that I've shot with. The Yashica MF-2, Yashica Micro Elite AF (which yields very sharp and in focus images), the Minolta Family Zoom II (also very sharp and in focus images), the Olympus AZ-210 Super Zoom (still shooting the roll that;s in it), a Canon Sure Shot Owl (no tested) and a Pentax PC 35 AF which actually has a ttl viewfinder (this one had problems focusing at infinity but did well for some portrait style shots, though this could just be my model that has a focusing issue). Love these little cameras and I hope to see more videos from you using them!

Among the three small cameras, the Rollei 35 requires the most user decision-making and control, but in terms of image results, it will smoke the Nikon, which in turn will smoke the XA. The virtue of the XA is its compact size and full feature set, but the lens is a hefty compromise to fit it into that thin body - snapshots only.

At the time I was taking plant taxonomy so it might just be random plant photos. That class is one of the things that got me into nature photography. Now I work for a wholesale greenhouse and get to take plant photos as part of my career managing our website and social media.

I have a XA2 and while I love it, I found that I can't trust it everytime, sometimes I think it just chooses fast shutter speeds and photos come out dark and very contrasty. I have a Yashica ME1 and I can tell you if you ever see one of those, buy it: it is cheap and not well known but it has nice lens and works similar to a Olympus XA2 or maybe closer to a XA. On the other hand, I bought a Canon Sure Shot 60 Zoom because I started with one of those (a Canon Sure Shot Owl that a friend borrowed me), and tho I think these are type of cameras that photographers don't usually use, they are great for what they are and cost, and the viewfinder is wonderful and make it so easy to use
